India will continue taking action to bring terrorists, their sponsors to justice: EAM Jaishankar at SCO

Tianjin/New Delhi, July 15 (UNI) With Pakistan's Ishaq Dar listening, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar today told the SCO Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Tianjin, China, that the Pahalgam attack was a deliberate attempt to disrupt stability in J&K and sow religious divide, and that India will continue to take action to bring the sponsors and financiers of terrorism to justice.
In his remarks at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Tianjin, which was also attended by the Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, EAM Jaishankar also asked the SCO to remain true to its founding objectives and take an uncompromising position on the scourge of terrorism.
Jaishankar mentioned in posts on X regarding the points he had highlighted:
'We meet at a time of considerable disorder in the international system. In the last few years, we have seen more conflicts, competition and coercion. Economic instability is also visibly on the rise. The challenge before us is to stabilize the global order, de-risk various dimensions and through it all, address longstanding challenges that threaten our collective interests.
'The three evils that SCO was founded to combat were terrorism, separatism and extremism. Not surprisingly, they often occur together.
'Recently, we in India witnessed a graphic example in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April 2025. It was deliberately conducted to undermine the tourism economy of Jammu and Kashmir, while sowing a religious divide.
'The UN Security Council, of which some of us are currently members, issued a statement that condemned it in the strongest terms and 'underlined the need to hold perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of this reprehensible act of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice'.
"We have since done exactly that and will continue doing so. It is imperative that the SCO, to remain true to its founding objectives, take an uncompromising position on this challenge.
'India has taken several initiatives in the SCO in domains ranging from startup and innovation to traditional medicine and digital public infrastructure. We will continue to positively approach new ideas and proposals that are genuinely for our collective good. It is essential that such cooperation is based on mutual respect, sovereign equality and in accordance with territorial integrity and sovereignty of member states.
'Deepening collaboration within the SCO naturally requires more trade, investment and exchanges. For that to move to the next level, it is imperative that we address some current issues.
'One of them is the lack of assured transit within the SCO space. Its absence undermines the seriousness of advocating cooperation in economic areas. Another is to ensure the promotion of the International North South Transport Corridor (INSTC). We are confident that it will continue to gather momentum.
'Afghanistan has been long on the SCO agenda. The compulsions of regional stability are buttressed by our longstanding concern for the well-being of the Afghan people. The international community, particularly SCO members, must therefore step up with development assistance. India, for its part, will certainly do so.
'The world is today moving towards greater multi-polarity. This is not just in terms of redistribution of national capacities, but also the emergence of effective groupings like SCO. Our ability to contribute to the shaping of world affairs will naturally depend on how well we come together on a shared agenda. That means taking everybody on board.'

After a gap of five years, India resumes issuance of tourist visas to Chinese citizens

India has announced resuming issuance of tourist visas to Chinese nationals from this week, a move that comes as part of efforts to repair bilateral ties that came under severe strain following the military clashes in Galwan Valley. India had suspended issuance of tourist visas to Chinese nationals in 2020 largely due to Covid-19 pandemic but the restrictions continued in view of the eastern Ladakh border row. The Indian embassy in Beijing said Chinese nationals may apply for tourist visas from Thursday. In a notification, it also explained the required procedures to apply for the visas as well as documents required to be submitted at respective Indian visa application centres in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. The decision by the Indian embassy to resume the tourist visas came nearly a week-and-half after External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held extensive talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing. Jaishankar visited China on July 14-15 primarily to attend a conclave of the foreign ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. The external affairs minister also held talks with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng and conveyed to him that continued normalisation of bilateral ties can lead to mutually beneficial outcomes. In the last few months, India and China have initiated a number of measures to repair the bilateral ties that had severely nosedived following the deadly clashes between the two militaries in June 2020. The efforts to normalise the relations were initiated after the Indian and Chinese militaries ended their face-off along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in October last year. In his opening remarks at the meeting with Wang, Jaishankar said the bilateral relationship requires both sides taking a 'far-seeing approach'. Last month, the two sides resumed the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra after a gap of nearly five years.

Rahul questions PM Modi's silence on Trump's repeated ceasefire claims

New Delhi, July 23 (UNI) Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha (LoP) Rahul Gandhi today again hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning his silence over US President Donald Trump's repeated assertions of brokering a ceasefire deal between India and Pakistan. Speaking to the media in the Parliament House complex, Gandhi raised concerns about the government's foreign policy, national security, and the handling of Operation Sindoor. 'What statement will Prime Minister Modi give… that Trump brokered the ceasefire? He can't say that. But the truth is — Trump did broker the ceasefire, and the whole world knows it,' Gandhi said. He pointed out that Donald Trump has claimed on at least 25 occasions that he was instrumental in brokering the ceasefire deal. 'Who is Trump to broker a ceasefire? That's not his job. Yet Prime Minister Modi hasn't responded even once. This is the truth, and you can't run away from it,' he said while slamming the Modi government for refusing to rebut Trump's statements. Accusing the Modi government of evading critical national issues, the Rae Bareli MP said, 'There are many pressing issues that we want to discuss — from national defence and the defence industry to Operation Sindoor. Those who call themselves patriots have disappeared. The Prime Minister has not made a single public statement'. 'On one hand, the government says Operation Sindoor is ongoing. On the other, it is celebrating victory. And meanwhile, Trump keeps saying he got the ceasefire done. Clearly, something is fishy,' he said. Alleging that India's foreign policy has weakened under the Modi government, Gandhi claimed, 'Not a single country has come forward in our support. The Modi government has torn apart our foreign policy'. UNI RBE AAB
