2 people arrested in connection with felony child exploitation investigation in Colorado's Douglas County
Two Colorado residents were arrested in connection with a sex crimes investigation in Douglas County.
Douglas County sheriff's detectives arrested 33-year-old Michael Palestino, of Castle Pines, last month and 28-year-old Gianna Worley, of Centennial, was arrested last week, the sheriff's office said on Monday.

Few details about the investigation, which detectives say is ongoing, were immediately available, but Palestino is facing charges of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, sexual exploitation of a child -- both class 3 felonies -- sexual assault of a child and sexual exploitation of a child -- both class 4 felonies.
He's being held in the El Paso County Jail without bond in an unrelated case, according to Douglas County investigators, and will be transferred to Douglas County.
Worley faces 12 charges of sexual exploitation of a child -- one of which is being classified as a class 3 felony and 11 of which are a class 4 felony, according to the sheriff's office. She was booked into the Douglas County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

Aurora police investigate after woman struck by stray bullet while in bed
A Colorado mom is worried and angry after she was struck by a stray bullet while inside her home in Aurora. It was after midnight when she heard the gunshots, and then the bullet came through the wall. A bullet pierced the wall of the home in Aurora before striking the woman inside. CBS Danielle Smith has a new window to the outside in her bedroom. It's a tiny round one where a bullet came through. She can see daylight clearly. "There's another hole in the base of my daughter's floorboard coming from the outside and there's another hole in my neighbor's bedroom," said Smith. The bullet that made the hole continued through her arm, just inches from her head, after she had gone to bed Wednesday night to watch television. Three shots rattled the duplex after midnight. "The fourth shot actually is the one that hit me, and I just felt my shoulder explode," she shared. She wore a bandage, and it continued to bleed on Thursday evening. It was the second floor of a building in the 13000 block of E. 13th Place in Aurora, a few blocks from the Anschutz Medical campus. Police said she didn't appear to be the intended target and believe a stray bullet may have been fired from somewhere nearby. Officers said they didn't find any shell casings in the area around her home. The police department encouraged anyone with information on the shooting to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers. Smith says she grew up in the area and moved back about a year ago. She has been constantly worried about crime. Danielle Smith was struck by a stray bullet while in her home in Aurora. CBS "People yelling about who stole whose drugs and who stole whose girlfriend, and it's a nightmare," she said. "The neighborhood is so far gone that if even the police don't want to come out here anymore to help, there's nothing that can be done." She says police have told her in the past they don't want to come to her street. Aurora police did not return a call late Thursday to inquire about her claim. Smith worries not just about herself, but her 16-year-old daughter who is holding down a job. "She works all day. So when she comes home on the bus at night, it's not a safe place for her to walk at all," she said. Other neighbors we talked with echoed concerns, although one parent said she was not concerned for her children. At the Lopez-Gomez home in an apartment on the street, father Wilson Lopez expressed concern for his young children. "The area is quite dangerous," he said in his native Spanish. "You hear a lot of shooting, a lot of police also at night… the area has always been, as we say, 'hot,'" he explained. In the aftermath of the shooting, Smith is hurting both physically and mentally. And planning to move when her lease is up. The duplex where the bullet struck a woman inside. CBS "I blame the city. Because it's not the first time, and it's definitely not going to be the last. I just think the last of police presence in this neighborhood is diabolical. It is scarce," she said. Officers said they didn't find any shell casings in the area around her home.

Rwandan opposition leader arrested over alleged plot against authorities
KIGALI, Rwanda (AP) — A prominent opposition leader in Rwanda has been arrested on charges she assisted an alleged plot to incite public unrest. Victoire Ingabire was arrested on Thursday and is being detained in the Rwandan capital of Kigali. Her team of international lawyers in a statement called her arrest 'baseless and politically motivated.' The Rwanda Investigations Bureau links Ingabire to alleged subversion after her name was mentioned in an ongoing criminal case against nine people accused of plotting to overthrow the government of President Paul Kagame. The Rwanda Investigations Bureau said it was probing her alleged role in creating a criminal gang. Ingabire appeared in court Thursday to be questioned by prosecutors who charged that she had been communicating with the nine suspects. Among the suspects is a journalist named Theoneste Nsengimana. The rest are members of the DALFA-Umurinzi group, a party led by Ingabire that is not recognized by authorities. Ingabire previously led the FDU-Inkingi group, a coalition of opposition parties that also was never permitted to register with the government. Ingabire spent 16 years in exile in the Netherlands and returned to Rwanda to launch an opposition political movement in 2010 but was imprisoned before she could contest the presidential election. She was later found guilty of conspiracy to undermine the government and denying Rwanda's 1994 genocide, charges she denied. Sentenced to 15 years, she was freed in 2018 after obtaining presidential pardon. But Kagame has since threatened Ingabire with a possible return to jail. In 2020 the president said that Ingabire should not be shocked if she is locked up again. Her lawyers say she has committed no crimes. 'This re-arrest is simply the latest step in an ongoing campaign of harassment and intimidation which the Rwandan government has been carrying out' against Ingabire, the statement from her lawyers said. Three decades after a genocide that killed an estimated 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus, Rwanda's president has won international praise for presiding over a peaceful and rapid economic recovery. But Kagame has faced criticism for what human rights groups say are widespread abuses, a muzzling of independent media and suppression of political opposition.
