Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that anyone who is not a citizen of India and has entered the country illegally will continue to face legal action in accordance with the Constitution.
The Prime Minister made the remark while addressing a rally in Durgapur, West Bengal.
'Let me say this clearly from the land of Durgapur — anyone who is not a citizen of India, anyone who has entered the country illegally, legal action will continue against them as per the Constitution of India," PM Modi stated.

During his speech, the Prime Minister referred to Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee's vision of 'One Nation, One Constitution," saying that it had become a core commitment of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He stated that the BJP had not only adopted this vision but had also fulfilled it, reflecting the party's resolve to uphold national unity and constitutional values.
'For the BJP, the Bengali language is a symbol of inspiration, tradition, and identity. Bengali pride is paramount for the BJP," he noted.
He noted that Bengali pride was of great importance to the party, and stressed that in every BJP-ruled state, both the Bengali language and the people of West Bengal are treated with the highest respect.
However, the Prime Minister criticised the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal, accusing it of endangering the state's identity.
'But what is happening here in West Bengal? TMC, driven by its selfish interests, has put the identity of West Bengal at stake," he added.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi launched a slew of development projects worth Rs 5,400 crore in West Bengal, unveiling major initiatives across the oil and gas, power, rail, and road sectors to boost infrastructure, connectivity, and clean energy in the region.
As part of the events, he laid the foundation stone for Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited's ₹1,950-crore City Gas Distribution project in Bankura and Purulia districts. The project is aimed at providing piped natural gas (PNG) to homes and industries, compressed natural gas (CNG) at fuel outlets, and generating employment opportunities locally.
Modi also dedicated to the nation the ₹1,190-crore Durgapur–Kolkata section of the Durgapur–Haldia Natural Gas Pipeline, a 132-km stretch built under the Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga (PMUG) scheme. This pipeline passes through Purba Bardhaman, Hooghly, and Nadia districts, and is expected to provide lakhs of people with a reliable and eco-friendly supply of natural gas.

'Will Drown You In Sea': Raj Thackeray Dares BJP's Nishikant Dubey To Visit Mumbai

Last Updated: Raj Thackeray threatened to drown Nishikant Dubey in Mumbai's sea, stressing Marathi's importance in Maharashtra. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Friday hit back at Lok Sabha MP Nishikant Dubey over his 'Patak Patak ke Maarenge (We will beat you up mercilessly)" remark, and said he will drown the BJP leader in sea of Mumbai. 'A BJP MP said, 'Marathi logon ko hum yahan pe patak patak ke maarenge'…You come to Mumbai. Mumbai ke samundar mein dubo dubo ke maarenge," Thackeray said. The MNS leader further said that he will not make any compromises over Marathi and the people of Maharashtra. 'I will not Those who live in Maharashtra, to them I would like to say 'learn Marathi as soon as possible, wherever you go, speak Marathi'. In Karnataka, they fight for their language. Even a rickshaw puller knows that the Government is standing behind him over language. Similarly, you be like a pillar and speak in Marathi only. This is what I have come to request all of you," he added. The Hindi-Marathi row was ignited in the state, especially in the Mumbai metropolitan region, after opposition parties like the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena took on the government over two GRs on the three-language policy in schools and teaching of Hindi from Class I. It escalated after MNS activists beat up some people, including a sweet shop owner in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, for not speaking Marathi. Later on July 5, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and MNS head Raj Thackeray shared a stage in Mumbai for the cause of the Marathi language, and vowed to oppose the 'imposition" of Hindi in Maharashtra after the state government rolled back the GRs on the introduction of Hindi as a third language in primary schools. On July 8, the MNS and other groups led a protest march in Mira Bhayandar area to defend Marathi 'asmita' (pride) and counter the traders' agitation. view comments First Published: July 18, 2025, 21:38 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
