No. 1 Texas will be without its star pitcher vs. Texas A&M this weekend
Texas A&M (24-16, 8-10 SEC) will head to Austin, Texas, to face the No. 1 Texas Longhorns starting Friday night in a game filled with storylines, headlined by former Aggie head coach Jim Schlossnagle leaving College Station for the 40 acres last summer, just days after Texas A&M's College World Series Championship loss to Tennessee.
However, the Aggies are taking every SEC series one game at a time, no matter the stakes surrounding the Lone Star Showdown. Both head coaches are focused on Game 1 this week, but Schlossnagle will be without his top arm. Ace pitcher Jared Spencer (4-1, 3.27 ERA) will be unavailable against Texas A&M this weekend, placing a giant hole in the Longhorns' plans to thwart the Aggie bats.
Texas A&M's strategy remains the same on the mound, as Ryan Prager will start on Friday, followed by Justin Lamkin on Saturday, followed by Myles Patton on Sunday, which, for the most part, has worked well during the last three SEC series. Still, Prager's high ERA during conference play is worrying, but A&M's offense has all but made up for his issues on the mound.
Without Spencer, the Longhorns will likely go with RHP Ruger Riojas (7-1, 3.33 ERA), who has been solid. However, this will force pitching coach Max Weiner to switch things up for Saturday and Sunday.
Texas A&M will head to Austin, Texas, to face No. 1 Texas starting Friday, April 25, at 7:00 p.m. CT. The game will air on the SEC Network.

As a member of Carolina Panthers, he was arrested in 2014 for allegedly attacking his girlfriend at the time. He was signed by Dallas and served a 10-game suspension before playing for the team in 2015. Hardy was selected by the Panthers in the sixth round of the 2010 NFL Draft and was selected as an All-Pro and Pro Bowler in 2013.
