Two Held In Makkah For Hajj Fraud, Sheltering Visit Visa Holders
MAKKAH, May 13 (Bernama-SPA) -- Security patrols in Makkah arrested two Indonesian residents for committing fraud by publishing advertisements for fake and misleading Hajj campaigns, promoting counterfeit Nusuk Hajj cards, and violating Hajj regulations.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), they committed the fraud by sheltering 23 visitors holding various types of visit visas in a building in Makkah.
The residents were detained, legal measures were taken against them, and they were referred to the Public Prosecution, while those they sheltered were referred to the competent authority to apply the legally prescribed penalties against them.

Man charged with sexual assault of daughter
KUALA LUMPUR: A despatch rider pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here to sexually assaulting his six-year-old daughter. The 37-year-old father of two is accused of committing the offence at a house in Kampung Datuk Keramat here between June 28 and July 10 last year. The charge is framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, read together with Section 16(1) of the same law. If convicted, Section 14(a) provides for a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and whipping, while Section 16(1) carries a jail term of up to five years and a maximum of two strokes of the cane. According to a Bernama report yesterday, deputy public prosecutor M. Saravanan requested bail be set at RM20,000 in one surety, along with an additional condition that the accused must report to the nearest police station once a month. 'In addition, the accused must surrender his passport to the court and is prohibited from contacting or disturbing the victim, as he is the child's biological father and has visitation rights,' said DPP Saravanan. Meanwhile, the accused, who was unrepresented, appealed for a lower bail on grounds that he only earns RM2,000 a month and his daughter is currently living with his ex-wife who has since remarried. Judge Azrul Darus set July 16 for mention and granted the accused bail of RM5,000 in one surety, along with the condition that he must report to the nearest police station once a month until the disposal of the case.

One dead, two injured in shooting at Brickfields restaurant
KUALA LUMPUR: A man died while two of his friends were injured after being shot at a restaurant in Jalan Tun Sambanthan, Brickfields here, on Friday (June 13) night. Brickfields district police chief ACP Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said in the incident at about 10.50pm, the three local men aged between 30 and 50 were eating with several friends before being approached by two men on a motorcycle who fired several shots at them. "One of the victims was confirmed dead at the scene due to gunshots and his body was sent to the University Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) for a post-mortem. "Two other victims are receiving treatment at PPUM with one of them suffering serious injuries while the other sustained minor injuries," he told reporters at the scene early on Saturday (June 14) morning. Ku Mashariman said further investigations are underway including examining closed-circuit camera footage, identifying the motive for the incident and the suspects involved. "There is nothing to alarm the public at this time and the police will investigate this case from various angles. "Members of the public with information about the incident are advised to contact the police or the nearest police station to assist in the investigation," he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code. - Bernama

Bus driver in Gerik crash claims trial
Facing the law: Mohd Amirul being escorted after pleading not guilty to 16 charges at the Gerik Magistrate's Court. — Bernama Accused pleads not guilty to all 16 charges GERIK: The bus driver involved in an accident which killed 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students in Gerik this week has been slapped with 16 charges in court. Mohd Amirul Fadhil Zulkifle, 39, was charged with 15 counts of dangerous driving resulting in death and one charge of driving in a manner dangerous to the public. He pleaded not guilty to all the charges before magistrate Muhammad Firdaus Nor Azlan yesterday. Mohd Amirul allegedly committed the offences at approximately 1.15am on June 9 at KM53 of the Gerik-Jeli East-West Highway, thereby causing the death of 15 UPSI students. The students who perished in the tragedy were Fakhrul Arif Rosdi, 20; Mohammad Aqil Taqiuddin Mohd Sofian, 21; Nik Amni Nadiah Nik Nor Zabir, 21; Nurul Fatihah Abu Setaman, 22; Nurul Izyanti Muhamad Azahar, 21; Sufea Adela Maslihaizan, 21; Nur Ainul Qistina Mat Ali, 21; Nur Dalila Farhana Mohamad Isma, 21; Nurly Sahirah Azman, 23; Fatin Nasrien Fadli, 22; Muhammad Mustaqim Rosde, 21; Anis Soffiyya Md Zaidi, 20; Nor Ayuni Maslan, 21; Muhammad Adib Hazim Halim, 21; and Wan Nur Suhaila Wan Muhammad, 22. He was charged under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by dangerous driving. The offence carries a jail term of five to 10 years, a fine of up to RM50,000 and disqualification from holding or obtaining a driving licence for a minimum of five years, upon conviction. The additional charge was under Section 42(1) of the same Act for reckless and dangerous driving. The section provides for imprisonment of up to five years, a minimum fine of RM5,000 or both, and disqualification from holding or obtaining a driving licence for a period of not less than five years, upon conviction. The court granted bail at RM19,000 in two sureties. The accused was also ordered to report weekly to the nearest police station. His driving licences were suspended pending the disposal of the case. The court then fixed July 14 for next mention to enable the accused to appoint a lawyer, Bernama reported. Perak prosecution director Muhammad Zaki Abdul Kudos and deputy public prosecutors Nasrul Hadi Abdul Ghani and Moganaraj Mithra appeared for the prosecution. In the crash on Monday, 15 UPSI students were killed and 33 others injured when the bus they were travelling in overturned along the highway, near Tasik Banding, Gerik.
