Bad news for India! foreign investors sell Rs 270000000000 of shares in just…, due to…
The Indian stock market has already been declining since the last few days over weak quarterly results reporting. At the same time US President Donald Trump withdrew announced tariffs on Indian trade affected Indian market's sentiments. The negotiations regarding the same are already going on but still the market has reacted adversly. Foreign investors are constantly withdrawing from the Indian stock market. In the last nine trading sessions, they have sold shares of Rs 27000 crore. Another concerning factor was the long-to-short ratio for foreign investors has gone down to 0.11 down. It was 0.61 lowest level in March 2023. This time it has declined far more than two years ago. This means that 90% of the trades by foreign investors are sell orders. Why Are Investors Selling Shares? There are several reasons behind foreign investors exit from Indian markets: Weak Q1 Results: The first-quarter financial results of many Indian companies didn't meet expectations which reduced investor confidence. Trump's Tariff Shock: Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced a 25% tariff on goods imported from India. This has affected foreign investors. Strong U.S. Dollar: The U.S. dollar has strengthened recently which has made India a less attractive market for them. The dollar index has declined the 100 mark, with a 2.5% gain this week alone and its best performance in the last three years. After Trump's tariff announcement on Wednesday, the Indian markets reacted on Thursday. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) pulled out Rs 5,600 crore in a single day. Already concerned by weak corporate earnings, investors started to sell, with sell-side deals making up 90% of their trades and comparable to the 89% seen in January. Action committee questions construction cost of houses
Kozhikode: The Janashabdam Action Committee for Wayanad landslide victims has waded into the controversy over the cost of the houses being constructed at the township coming up at Elstone Estate for the landslide survivors saying that the model house does not seem to have cost Rs 30 lakh as claimed by govt authorities. Action committee chairperson Nazeer Alakkal said that it is not proper to reap profits on the disaster front. "The people who are in the beneficiary list and are awaiting houses at the township are very concerned over the controversy. Just look at the 1,250sqft house provided by Kerala Police Association at a cost of Rs 23 lakh. If the landslide survivors were provided Rs 30 lakh, we would have built a 2,000sqft house," Alakkal said. He said that it has been specifically mentioned in the law that disaster rehabilitation efforts should be carried out only after consultations with the victims. "Even the court has said that. But here what consultations have been carried out with us? The district collector should immediately convene a meeting of the people in the beneficiary list and hear their suggestions. We had told the collector that the stairs from the ground floor should be provided from inside the house but in the model house it has been provisioned from outside," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Dubai villas | search ads Get Deals Undo Also, the beneficiaries have raised concerns over the metal awning above the window instead of a proper concrete sunshade saying that it could lead to water seepage in the monsoon. Congress leaders had said that the model house should not have cost Rs 30 lakh. However, Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS), which took up the project, said each house cost Rs 22 lakh to build and with 18% tax, the final price would be Rs 25.9 lakh. Action committee convener Shajimon Chooralmala said that even the construction cost of Rs 23 lakh claimed by ULCCS seemed to be exaggerated as construction costs won't work out to that figure with around 400 houses being built. "Also, we want to have the tiled roofed portion in the front replaced with concrete roofing and the stairs should be provided from inside the house," he said.

"Big Headload Fell...": Railway Minister On What Led To Delhi Station Tragedy
New Delhi: A big headload that "fell from one of the passengers" led to the tragedy at New Delhi Railway Station that killed 18 people, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said today in response to a member's query. It resulted in the "tripping of passengers on the stairs", said the minister. In response to a query by Samajwadi Party MP Ramji Lal Suman in Rajya Sabha, Mr Vaishnaw shared details from the report by a high-level inquiry committee that was constituted to examine the circumstances leading to the "unfortunate incident". Mr Suman had asked the Railway Minister about the status of the report of the committee constituted to investigate the stampede and the corrective steps taken by the government. Eighteen people were killed and 15 were injured on February 15 at the New Delhi Railway Station, which witnessed a surge of passengers waiting to board trains for Prayagraj -- where the Maha Kumbh was underway at the time. In a post on X that night, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he was "distressed by the stampede". However, in the Railway Minister's statement, there was no mention of the word "stampede". On the day of the tragedy, around 49,000 general tickets were sold at the railway stations, 13,000 more than the daily average, Mr Vaishnaw had informed the Lok Sabha in March. In his response today, the minister stated that sufficient crowd management measures were in place that day to manage the high number of passengers at the station. There was a "gradual increase of passenger density on the foot over bridge (FOB) after 8.15 pm", mentioned the written reply. "Many of the passengers were carrying big headloads, affecting smooth movement on the FOB. There was a big headload falling from one of the passengers, and the pressure was passed on to the stairs of platforms 14 and 15, resulting in the tripping of passengers on the stairs. This led to an incident at 8.48 pm on FOB-3," the minister said. "Consequently, passengers fell on each other," he said. Compensation of Rs 10 lakh was given to the families of each victim, Rs 2.5 lakh to those seriously injured, and Rs 1 lakh to those with simple injuries. "A total amount of Rs 2.01 crore has been paid to 33 victims and their family members," Mr Vaishnaw said. To manage large crowds better, the railways have put new measures in place. These include permanent holding areas, access control for confirmed ticket holders at 73 stations, wider foot overbridges, CCTV cameras, and war rooms at major stations. The Maha Kumbh Mela, the 45-day event that ended in February, led to record ticket sales, emphasising the importance of solid crowd management during such events.
