Golden temple receives three threat emails on Wednesday, fifth in over three days causing concern among Sikh community
While talking to media persons, SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami said that the first email landed in SGPC's inbox on July 14, reportedly from the fake email ID of Kerala Chief Minister Comrade Pinarayi Vijayan, threatening to damage the Golden Temple. SGPC officials immediately alerted the police and urged cyber experts to trace the server and IP address of the sender.
Shockingly, just 24 hours later, a second threat email arrived on July 15.
This one, sent not only to SGPC but also to Member of Parliament Gurjit Singh, was traced to a fake email ID of former Chief Justice of India, Justice Chanderchur Singh. The situation escalated drastically on July 16, when three more emails came in consecutively, purportedly from a person named Asif Gaffur. These emails were addressed to both SGPC and the chief minister of Punjab, marking the third consecutive day of targeted threats.

Do you believe the government is taking the threat emails seriously?
Yes, they are addressing the issue.
No, they seem indifferent.
While expressing deep frustration over the lack of visible action, Dhami said, 'We informed the police immediately after receiving the first email. But there has been no concrete response. The Golden Temple is not just a religious place; it is the spiritual heart of the
Sikh community
. If such threats don't alarm the govt, what will?' he questioned.
Dhami criticised the silence of Punjab CM and MP Gurjit Singh saying that they also received at least one of the threat mails, yet have made no public statement so far.
'We are worried, but why are they not? Why haven't they uttered a word?' he said.
Citing the deployment of Border Security Force (BSF) personnel around Golden Temple , Dhami apprehended that this could be a deliberate attempt to create fear and reduce the number of sangam visiting the shrine. 'It seems like an orchestrated effort to terrorise the sangam . If not, then why hasn't the source of the emails been traced yet? Any govt with basic cyber capabilities can trace an IP in an hour,' he said.
Dhami called on the government, police, and cyber branch to act swiftly and transparently. 'We have activated our internal cyber teams, but this responsibility lies with the state. The culprits must be exposed without delay', said he.
He said they went to the media to convey the message "Jago, Sovo Na" (wake up, don't sleep), adding, 'We cannot afford to be silent when our sacred place is under threat.'

Exclusion of Aadhaar from Bihar SIR: Supreme Court observes 11 documents better than 7; calls it 'voter friendly'
Supreme Court NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday said the 11 documents required for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the poll-bound Bihar show the electoral roll revision is "voter-friendly" compared to the seven documents needed for a summary revision. "The number of documents in summary revision conducted earlier in the state was seven and in SIR it is 11, which shows it is voter friendly. We understand your arguments that non-acceptance of Aadhaar is exclusionary but a high number of documents is actually inclusionary," the bench said according to news agency PTI. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi, which resumed hearing on a batch of pleas challenging the June 24 decision of the Election Commission of India (ECI) to conduct SIR in poll bound Bihar, said despite petitioners' arguments that non-acceptance of Aadhaar was exclusionary, it appeared the large number of documents was "actually inclusionary". The top court noted electors were required to submit any one of the 11 documents on the list. Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for the petitioners, disagreed and submitted the number of documents may be high but they had the least coverage. Giving an example of passport availability with the electors, Singhvi said it was only one to two per cent in Bihar and they have no provision for permanent resident certificates given in the state. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas Prices In Dubai Might Be More Affordable Than You Think Villas In Dubai | Search Ads Get Quote Undo "If we see the availability of documents with the population in Bihar it can be seen the coverage is very low," he said. The bench said the coverage of 36 lakh of passport holders in the state appears to be good. "The list of documents is prepared normally after taking feedback from various government departments to ensure maximum coverage," Justice Bagchi pointed out. On August 12, the Supreme Court said that including or excluding citizens and non-citizens from electoral rolls was within the Election Commission's remit. It backed the poll panel's decision to not treat Aadhaar and voter cards as conclusive proof of citizenship in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar's voters' list. Amid the escalating row over the ongoing SIR in and outside Parliament, the court noted the dispute was 'largely a trust deficit issue.' The EC has maintained that about 6.5 crore of Bihar's 7.9 crore voters did not need to submit any documents for themselves or their parents if their names were in the 2003 electoral rolls.
