It was a battle between Briton Matthew Hudson-Smith, right, and South Africa's world leader Zakithi Nene until it wasn't, when Charlie Dobson came from nowhere to pip both to the post in the men's 400m final at the Diamond League meeting in London on Saturday.

Alleyne signing maintains Watford's youthful vibe

The loan signing of Manchester City defender Max Alleyne is another example of Watford recruiting young talent. All of the Hornets signings this summer have been in their 20s with some even younger with the likes of Nestory Irankunda and Othmane Maamma, who are both 19, joining Vivaldo Semedo, 20, Caleb Wiley, 20 and Luca Kjerrumgaard, 22 in the squad. Can these players step up and prove they can be consistent Championship players? If you bear in mind that last season Mamadou Doumbia, 19, Ryan Andrew, 20, Rocco Vata, 20, James Abankwah, 21, Kevin Keben, 21, Kwadwo Baah, 22, and Mattie Pollock, 23, were all squad regulars, it is clear this is an energetic young group being formed. But is there enough experience? How will they cope in tricky situations? In defence Alleyne joins Pollock, Abankwah and Keben as the centre-back options. All of them are under 24. Pollock featured the most last season and improved considerably. Abankwah caught the eye after joining in January. He can make the game look simple but sometimes his overconfidence can cause him some problems. Keben also showed promise. Watford have cleared out the defensive deadwood with Francisco Sierralta, Ryan Porteous, Joao Ferreira and Antonio Tikvic all going for fees which represents good business. But it's the youngsters who are going to be the intriguing ones this season, particularly in defence and attack. Moussa Sissoko, Tom Ince, Edo Kayembe, Imran Louza and Hector Kyprianou offer the Hornets experience. They are all midfielders. Watford currently resemble a hamburger with an array of young talent filling the defence and attack 'buns' and wiser older heads making up the burger in the middle. It could be some tasty meal this season, or something less appetising.

Man City & England Star Calls 2023 Champions League Final Opposition Inter Milan ‘A Superpower'

Man City defender John Stones says that Inter Milan were a 'superpower' in the 2023 Champions League final, and still are. The 31-year-old spoke to Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport in an interview in today's print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. Inter Milan and Manchester City faced off in the 2023 Champions League final. Going into that match, there was no doubt that nearly everyone viewed Inter as major underdogs. The Nerazzurri had done very well to reach that final. They saw off the likes of Barcelona, Porto, Benfica, and AC Milan. However, there was admittedly a sense that Inter had benefited from a relatively easy path to the final. Furthermore, Inter's league form in the 2022-23 season was all over the place. Man City Defender John Stones Calls Inter A 'Superpower' FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA – JUNE 12: John Stones #5 of Manchester City arrives at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport prior to the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup on June 12, 2025 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. (Photo by)Inter did not win the 2023 final in the end. They lost in heartbreaking fashion, by just a 1-0 scoreline. However, the Nerazzurri were more than a match for City. Inter went toe-to-toe, largely restricting the Premier League juggernauts from creating chances. And at the other hand, Inter had a slew of very good chances to equalize. And Manchester City defender John Stones, who started that match, note that 'Many thought it would be easy.' 'But Inter were, and are, a superpower,' he continued. 'And they proved that by getting back to the final this season.'
