But this isn't a new trend. Back in 2018, Bollywood saw something even more shocking. Sanjay Dutt, then 59, was reportedly left stunned when police told him that a 62-year-old homemaker from Mumbai, Nisha Patil, had passed away and left behind property worth ₹72 crore in his name.

Patil, who had reportedly battled a terminal illness, had made the decision to transfer all her property to Dutt. She even wrote to several banks, requesting them to move all her assets to his name. It was a surprising gesture, especially since the actor had never met or known her personally.
Dutt, the son of legendary actors Sunil Dutt and Nargis, made his film debut in 1981 at the age of 22 with Rocky and has since acted in over 135 films. Over the years, he gained massive popularity and a loyal fan following. But this particular gesture from Patil was unlike anything he had ever experienced.

When Dutt came to know about the situation, he was deeply moved but also overwhelmed. According to reports from that time, his lawyer stated that the actor had no intention of claiming the property. 'I will not be claiming anything. I did not know Nisha, and I am very overwhelmed by the entire incident to speak about it,' Dutt had said at the time. His legal team also confirmed that he would follow the proper procedure to ensure the assets were returned to Nisha's family.
The news gained a lot of attention at the time because of the large amount involved, ₹72 crore. But despite the huge sum, Sanjay Dutt chose not to accept any of it, showing that he preferred to stay grounded and respectful in such matters.

As of now, Dutt is busy with multiple films. Bhootnii and Housefull 5 have already been released in theaters, while Akhanda 2, Dhurandhar, and The RajaSaab are set to hit screens later this year. Dutt is also working on a Kannada film titled KD, The Devil, which is expected to release in 2026.
Beyond the screen
Apart from acting, Dutt stepped into production by launching his company, Three Dimension Motion Pictures, in 2022. His latest release under this banner was the comedy-horror film The Bhootnii, which hit theatres in May 2025.
He also explored the business world, he invested in the alco-bev startup Cartel & Bros in 2023 and introduced his own Scotch whisky brand called The Glenwalk.
