Rohit Sharma's Role Behind Yashasvi Jaiswal's Mumbai U-Turn In Ranji Trophy Revealed: Report
Recently, MCA president Ajinkya Naik revealed that Jaiswal's decision was influenced by none other than India ODI skipper Rohit Sharma, who advised him to continue play for Mumbai.
"Rohit asked Yashasvi to stay on in Mumbai at this stage of his career. He explained that there is a lot of pride and prestige in playing for Mumbai, which has won the Ranji Trophy a record 42 times. Rohit also told him to remember that it was because of Mumbai cricket he got a platform to play for India and that he should be grateful," Naik told Mumbai Mirror, as quoted by India Today.
"After discussing this with Rohit and a few other stalwarts who represented India and Mumbai, Jaiswal sent an email to us requesting us to withdraw his NOC for a shift to Goa. We approved his request," he added.
Earlier in May, it was reported by the PTI that Jaiswal had emailed his request of withdrawing his application.
"I the undersigned would request your goodself to consider my request in withdrawing my NOC given to me as I had some family plans in shifting to Goa which for now has been curtailed !," Jaiswal wrote.
"So I sincerely request MCA to allow me to play for Mumbai this season! I have not submitted the NOC to BCCI nor to Goa Cricket Association!," he added.
Jaiswal, who moved from Uttar Pradesh's Bhadohi to Mumbai as a young player and rose through the ranks to make his debut across formats for India over the last couple of years, was also believed to have shifted to Goa from Mumbai owing to the prospect of becoming their captain.

'In the 2007-08 series against Australia, I played the first three matches and then MS Dhoni dropped me from the side. I wasn't picked for a while after that. Then I felt that if I can't be a part of the playing XI, then there is no point in playing ODI cricket,' Sehwag said on Padamjeet Sehrawat's podcast. 'I went to Tendulkar and said, 'I am thinking of retiring from ODIs'. He said, 'No. I went through a similar phase in 1999-2000, where I felt I should leave cricket. But that phase came and went. You are going through a trough, but it will pass. Don't make any decision when you are emotional. Give yourself some time and 1-2 series, and then take a call,'' Sehwag added. It proved to be fantastic advice as Sehwag continued in the Indian team as its star opener and helped them win the 2011 World Cup. In the World Cup, Sehwag scored 380 runs at 47.50 average.

Virendar Sehwag was way ahead of his time. Back in the day, he used to play at a strike rate and consistency that is equivalent to modern standards. However, the flip side of the approach is that players do go through a poor run of form in certain phases of their career due to their attacking intent. And Sehwag, during the 2007/08 tour to Australia, from five games, managed to score 81 runs, and then skipper MS Dhoni decided to drop Sehwag from the side. 'In the 2007-08 series against Australia, I played the first three matches and then MS Dhoni dropped me from the side. I wasn't picked for a while after that. Then I felt that if I can't be a part of the playing XI, then there was no point in my playing ODI cricket,' said Sehwag, speaking to Padamjeet Sehrawat. He is also one of those rare batsmen to have scored two triple ton with his next one (309) coming against South Africa. In 251 ODIs, he accumulated 8273 runs at an average of 35.05 and scored 15 hundreds apart from hitting 38 fifties. In 19 Twenty20 Internationals, he managed 394 runs with two half-centuries.

Fitness standards and workload management central to Tamil Nadu's plans, says Vasudeva Das
As Tamil Nadu prepares for the upcoming domestic season, starting with the All India Buchi Babu tournament on Monday, where it will field two teams, the chairman of the selection committee, K. Shri Vasudeva Das, is optimistic about the challenges ahead. 'Last year, we played some consistent cricket despite many injuries. We should continue on that and build on what we have done over the past couple of years. I am confident that we are going to have a good season,' Vasudeva Das told The Hindu. TN lost in the quarterfinals of the Ranji Trophy to eventual champion Vidarbha earlier this year. The team had to deal with injuries, mainly to its fast bowlers, and it is something the think-tank has worked to address. 'We have taken some measures which have been implemented by the TNCA Academy, setting protocols and standards. Being the heartbeat of TN cricket, the TNCA Academy, along with the coaches, is very particular that the players meet those requirements, and I think it is on track. They have set fitness standards from the beginning of the season. The moment the season got over, we had a summer camp during the IPL time,' added the former TN middle-order batter. A part of that process is workload management, and pacers Sandeep Warrier and Gurjapneet Singh have been rested for the pre-season competition, considering the schedule ahead. In the last two seasons, TN has handed out debuts to quite a few youngsters, including teenagers like pacer R.D. Pranav Ragavendra and C. Andre Siddarth, who finished as the second-highest scorer for the side in Ranji Trophy. Last year, the under-19 boys won the Cooch Behar title, and four of them will be in action next week. Vasudeva Das, who was a junior committee chairman for three years before joining the senior set-up last year, is excited about the talent pool. 'We had set certain things in place in junior cricket, which helped us play consistently. This built us up to winning the title. So, a similar approach would be useful in the senior level, and we are on the right track. The youngsters pushing the seniors and transitioning into professional level is happening much quicker than it was a couple of years ago,' opined Vasudeva Das.
