Not that long ago, instead of Matt Shakman, it was "Spider-Man: No Way Home" director Jon Watts who was set to bring the Fantastic Four to the MCU. Now we finally know why Watts bowed out of "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" - he ran out of gas.

Speaking at the Mediterranean Film Festival, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter, Watts fielded questions about his departure from "First Steps".
Watts committed to "First Steps" between making "Spider-Man: Far From Home" and "No Way Home," and he said that when it came time to start work on "The Fantastic Four," it occurred to him, "I am out of gas."
Watts continued, "The COVID layer on top of making a giant movie layer, I knew I didn't have what it would've taken to make that movie great. I was just out of steam, so I just needed to take some time to recover. Everyone at Marvel totally understood."
"They had been through it with me as well, so they knew how hard and draining that experience has been; in the end, very satisfying, but at some point, if you can't do it at the level that you feel like you need to for it to be great, then it's better to not do it."

Particularly because it was being made during the COVID pandemic, Watts said the post-production for "No Way Home" was particularly grueling.
"The emotional strain of having to go through all of those COVID protocols while also trying to make something creative while also trying to make sure that your cast and crew were all safe — literally people could've died if you did things wrong — that and the post-production process was very difficult," Watts explained.
"When you're doing [visual effects work], there's a whole international component to it where you're using vendors from all over the world, and the supply chain had been interrupted because of COVID. It was really hard to get effects done in a traditional way."
Shakman added that it will be a "totally surreal experience" for him to eventually watch "The Fantastic Four: First Steps".
"The Fantastic Four: First Steps" releases in theaters July 25. The film is directed by Matt Shakman. It stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Paul Walter Hauser, Natasha Lyonne, Julia Garner, Ralph Ineson, John Malkovich, and Sarah Niles.

IRONHEART Star Alden Ehrenreich Talks Surprise Role and the Character's Future in the MCU — GeekTyrant
The first few episodes of Ironheart pulled back the curtain on a legacy character with deep roots in the MCU. That surprise comes in the form of Alden Ehrenreich, who starts off playing a seemingly regular guy named Joe McGillicuddy, only to be revealed as Ezekiel Stane, the son of Jeff Bridges' Obadiah Stane from Iron Man . It's a interesting connection to the film that kicked off the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Ehrenreich is clearly aware of the significance. Speaking to ScreenRant, he opened up for the first time about stepping into a role so closely tied to the franchise's origin: "Well, it's nice to be a part of something that relates back to the whole legacy of the story, especially because that character was in the first real Marvel movie that started all of this." He also shared a fun connection between his casting and another MCU icon. "And I had just worked with Robert Downey Jr. [on Oppenheimer] when I got this part, and so I got to talk to him about it and that was nice. I just FaceTimed with him, and I was like, 'So this has come my way, and this is the role — what do you think?' And he was like, 'Yeah, do it.'" As for why Ezekiel Stane was chosen for Ironheart , head writer Chinaka Hodge told TV Line it was about mining the MCU's overlooked corners: "It's a gem of a 'hanging chad' in the Obadiah Stane story. One of the best things about the MCU is how things connect, but I think so many of the throws have been forward or to other MCUs or alternate universes, and it's so much fun to reach back." Hodge also hinted that Ezekiel's journey may only be beginning: "Alden's so great in the role and the character is so much fun. I expect, as a fan, it will live a long time." That said, it's unclear where exactly Ezekiel will pop up next. With Armor Wars no longer on the immediate horizon, Ezekiel's future in the MCU might be a waiting game. But if Ehrenreich's take on the character resonates with fans, don't be surprised if Marvel finds a way to bring him back. The first three episodes of Ironheart are now streaming on Disney+.

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors The Witcher Season 4 is on its way. Netflix has dropped a ton of exciting details for its upcoming fantasy epic series, so keep reading for the release date, story, cast list, and more. We already know it's the debut of Liam Hemsworth, who replaces former series lead Henry Cavill as monster hunter Geralt of Rivia. But did you know The Witcher Season 4 is the penultimate season? Or that it was shot virtually back to back with The Witcher Season 5? Liam Hemsworth stars in The Witcher Season 4 Liam Hemsworth stars in The Witcher Season 4 Netflix We've got plenty of fresh info about the eagerly awaited show, so scroll down for everything we know. The Witcher Season 4 Story The Witcher season 4 will incorporate storylines from the three remaining novels in The Witcher author Andrzej Sapkowski's series. These are Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and Lady of the Lake. Baptism of Fire sees Geralt caught between two warring clans, and Ciri join a group of thieves called The Rats. "It wouldn't be our show if we didn't push our family of characters to their absolute limit," creator and showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich tells Netflix. "Stay tuned to see how the story ends." The Witcher Season 4 Synopsis "After the shocking, Continent-altering events that close out season three, the new season follows Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri who are faced with traversing the war-ravaged Continent and its many demons apart from each other. If they can embrace and lead the groups of misfits they find themselves in, they have a chance of surviving the baptism of fire – and finding one another again," per Netflix's official synopsis. What Happened in The Witcher Season 3 Ending? The Witcher Season 3 ends with Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer all separated after being defeated by the mage Vilgefortz. Geralt now sets off to save Ciri, alongside Jaskier and Milva. However, they're going after a decoy. The real joined the group of young criminals known as The Rats (there are rumours of a spinoff show). Yennefer, meanwhile, replaces head sorceress Tissia as the new leader of Aretuza. The Witcher Season 4 Release Date The Witcher Season 4 will release in 2025, as confirmed by Netflix. However, an exact date for the show has yet to be announced. Filming has already wrapped, which is a good sign we'll see it sooner rather than later. "So we've been shooting now about eight months," Hemsworth said in an interview on Live With Kelly and Mark. "Three more weeks and then we break for about four months and then come back next year and do another eight months," Hemsworth added, referring to The Witcher Season 5. Season 4 is being shot relatively back-to-back (albeit with a short break in between) with the fifth and final season. After that, there's no more source material from Sapkowski.
