NAFAS Announces 10 Pct DPK Dividend
PUTRAJAYA, May 21 (Bernama) -- The National Farmers Organisation (NAFAS) has announced a 10 per cent dividend for the National Farmers Fund (DPK) for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2024, under the Farmers' Special Investment Scheme (SPKP).
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said the dividend comprises seven per cent in returns and a three per cent bonus for the first 100,000 investment units, involving a total payout of RM16 million to 15,000 investors.
Also announced was a 0.75 per cent hibah (non-guaranteed gift) for the DPK Al-Wadiah General Savings Account, with an overall payout commitment of RM100,000.
Mohamad Sabu said the DPK recorded impressive growth in 2024, including in profits, asset value, and distribution of benefits to investors.
'This reflects investors' confidence in the administrative structure and investment policies spearheaded by DPK, which continue to strengthen year after year,' he said in his speech at the SPKP DPK dividend announcement ceremony here today.
Mohamad said DPK's efforts to diversify its investment portfolio, including modern agricultural projects and specialised financial services, proved that farmers can also be economic players in a broader ecosystem.
However, he cautioned that DPK must not rest on its current success and should continue to be aggressive in exploring new investment opportunities to provide even higher returns to investors.
'In my view, the time has come for DPK to expand its investment partnerships, possibly with financial institutions, agri-tech companies, or in the rapidly growing green investment sector,' he said.
Meanwhile, DPK Steering Committee chairman Haris Alimudin said in his speech that DPK recorded a net profit of RM20.03 million, attributed to more efficient and strategic fund management.

Thailand unveils landmark entertainment complex to boost economy, tourism
BANGKOK: (Bernama) Thailand has unveiled plans for a landmark "Thailand Entertainment Complex' project, aimed at boosting economic growth, attracting international tourists and strengthening its global competitiveness. Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat said the project was part of efforts to position Thailand as a premier destination for world-class attractions. "The complex is envisioned as a new economic engine, fostering tourism revenue and creating innovative industries to ensure sustainable economic growth,' he said in a statement on Thursday (June 5). The entertainment complex is anticipated to generate 12 to 40 billion baht in annual tax revenue while creating thousands of jobs, he said. Julapun said the government has submitted a draft bill to the House of Representatives to establish a regulatory framework for the complex. Meanwhile, Deputy Secretary-General to the Prime Minister, Suksit Srichomkwan, said the complex will include a casino, which will operate under strict legal conditions and anti-money laundering measures. It will also feature concert halls, large convention and exhibition centres, amusement parks, museums, Michelin-starred restaurants, and green spaces for outdoor activities. MBI needs RM4.25mil to complete roof project for Gerbang Malam night market
At Ipoh's Gerbang Malam night market, 185m has roofing while funding is needed to complete the project. — RONNIE CHIN/The Star THE second phase of roof construction for Gerbang Malam along Jalan Dato Tahwil Azar is 85% complete, says Ipoh mayor Zamakhshari Hanipah. He said the roof had been designed with adequate height clearance to avoid obstructing nearby commercial units and shoplots. 'The city council is committed to conducting an immediate survey of the night market site, to assess the current situation and ensure the needs of traders and visitors are taken into account in further planning,' he said. It was previously reported that traders at the site had complained that part of the roof had yet to be put up, causing them to lose business during the rainy season. Zamakhshari said the roof design would address this issue. The first phase of the project, which involved building the roof over 185m of the night market area, was completed in April 2023 at a cost of RM2.9mil, with RM2.6mil coming from the Federal Government and an additional RM300,000 from the city council. 'Work on the second phase began on Oct 14 last year,' said Zamakhshari. He noted that another 171m-long stretch was still without a roof, due to funding constraints. He said MBI had submitted a RM4.25mil funding request to the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture for the implementation of Phase 3. 'It includes the construction of additional roofing, the installation of industrial fans and improvements to pedestrian walkways. 'We will continue working to secure additional funds to complete the project for the well-being of traders and the comfort of visitors.' He said MBI was optimistic the request would be approved, adding that 'MBI is committed to overseeing this project comprehensively.' Zamakhshari said MBI was focused on prioritising traders' welfare, enhancing Gerbang Malam's image as a tourist attraction and ensuring that every development project would benefit Ipoh residents. 'MBI deeply appreciates the patience and support of all parties in our efforts to build a more progressive and prosperous city,' he said. Gerbang Malam is one of Ipoh's key tourist attractions where small and medium-sized traders operate daily from 6pm to midnight.
