Your Friends & Neighbors Finale Reveals Who Killed Paul — Will You Come Back for Season 2?

Yahoo2 days ago

Your Friends & Neighbors wrapped up its freshman season by answering one big question — who killed Paul? — and left us pondering a few others.
Friday's finale opens with Coop envisioning himself lying by the pool while Mel and his kids call him to come swimming. It was just a dream, though, and the cold, hard reality remains: He's facing a murder charge and a possible sentence of life in prison after being found at the scene of Paul's death. He can't even take refuge in golf: The country club wants to suspend his membership until his 'current difficulties' are cleared up. He signs over his half of the house to Mel just in case (which leaves her worried) and then spends the night with his kids and his sister Ali, whose acoustic performance leads to a rambling confession about her affair with her married ex Bruce. But hey, at least she got the crowd to chant 'F–k Bruce.'

Coop gently nudges Ali to get back on her meds, since he might not be around to keep her in line, and he gives a pricey watch of his to his son Hunter. His daughter Tori gives him the cold shoulder at first, but eventually cuddles up with him to watch a movie, sobbing on his chest. Coop asks his lawyer Kat about a plea deal, and she thinks she can get his charges down to manslaughter, and he'd serve six years. He's furious that he'd have to go away that long for something he didn't do, but considering the alternative, he agrees to make a deal. When Mel notices Coop's watch on her son's wrist, she marches over to Coop's and confronts him: 'If you ever loved me, don't bulls–t me right now.' He admits he's contemplating a plea deal, and she begs him not to, imploring him to try harder to save himself than he did to save their marriage.
So Coop tells his lawyer Kat he's not taking the deal: 'I am guilty of a lot of things, but I am not guilty of this.' He wants the cops to look into Sam again, and Kat points out that her phone records prove she was in Boston — but Coop doesn't see his number anywhere in the records. They figure out she had a burner phone, but the cops say they can't do anything unless they physically have the phone. So Coop enlists his old partner in crime Elena to volunteer her housekeeping services to Sam, and when Sam leaves to run errands, Elena lets Coop in to snoop for the burner phone. Meanwhile, the cops get a new report from the medical examiner: Two of Paul's three gunshot wounds came after he died. Hmmm…
Elena doesn't find the phone — but she does find something else. When Sam gets home, Coop is waiting to confront her: 'Nobody killed Paul. He shot himself.' He lays out how Sam shot her ex-husband's dead body to make it look like a murder, because she wouldn't be able to cash his lucrative insurance policy if he took his own life. He also shows her what Elena found hidden away: Paul's bloody suicide note. Sam fesses up, explaining how Paul called her on FaceTime and shot himself right in front of her. She rushed home, leaving her primary phone with her parents in Boston, and staged the scene to look like a murder. And why did she frame Coop? 'You should've been kinder to me,' she tells him — and when he tries to walk away, she pulls a gun on him. He doesn't flinch, though: 'You're not a killer either,' he says as he calls her bluff and walks away.
In the end, Sam gets arrested, but Paul was already dead, and she never filed the insurance claim, so she'll likely only get a slap on the wrist. Coop has a warm reunion with Mel and his kids, and his old boss Jack asks him to come back to work, even offering him a fat profit share to seal the deal. Coop attends a swanky fundraiser gala, and everyone welcomes him back into high society with open arms. ('Nothing like beating a murder rap to give you a social boost,' Coop quips.) As Coop slow-dances with Tori, Mel watches from afar, and Nick says he blames himself for their split: 'I fell in love with a woman who was in love with someone else.' Mel then joins Coop for a slow dance, and they both pledge to stay single for a while. He doesn't hold a grudge against Sam, and Mel wonders how he can forgive her so quickly. 'I wasn't in love with her,' he points out, giving her a knowing smile. Oh!
As Coop leaves the fundraiser, he stops a mom named Jules and hints that he knows about her SAT cheat sheets — and warns her not to send her daughter to Princeton to compete with Tori. And while Jack and Liv wait for Coop to join them on a private jet to meet a client (and Ali spray-paints 'F–k Bruce' on Bruce's garage door), Coop instead heads to Jack's empty house and robs it, noting: 'It's time to get back to work.'

'Happy Gilmore 2' trailer teases cavalcade of cameos: Post Malone, Eminem and more

Adam Sandler is taking another swing at "Happy Gilmore" with help from some major stars. During Netflix's Tudum event on Saturday, May 31, the streamer debuted a new trailer for the comedian's highly anticipated sequel "Happy Gilmore 2." The footage teased a movie packed to the brim with cameos, starting with the trailer's opening scene in which Happy Gilmore falls flat on his face while golfing, as witnessed by Eric André, Margaret Qualley and Martin Herlihy. Later, Travis Kelce appears in a scene with Bad Bunny, Ben Stiller returns as orderly Hal, and several real television personalities like Ken Jennings and Stephen A. Smith pop up during a montage. The trailer also includes short glimpses of appearances by Eminem, Post Malone, Becky Lynch and more. Outside of the cameos, the main cast of "Happy Gilmore 2" includes Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald, the latter of whom returns as Shooter McGavin. Sandler wrote the screenplay for "Happy Gilmore 2" with Tim Herlihy, his co-writer on the original movie. Adam Sandler mourns 'Happy Gilmore' alligator Morris despite onscreen rivalry The comedian has teased several of the film's cameos in interviews. Sandler said on the "Dan Patrick Show" in December that he filmed for a day with Eminem, who "said a million things we can use." Sandler noted at the time that "I've known Eminem for a long time, and he's a great guy." 'Happy Gilmore 2' release date confirmed in new trailer featuring Bad Bunny Qualley, meanwhile, has said that her role in "Happy Gilmore 2" is small, but that her husband Jack Antonoff helped convince Sandler to cast her because she's such a fan of the original. On "The Tonight Show," she joked that Antonoff lied to Sandler by claiming Qualley is good at golf in order to secure her a role. "He lied for the sake of the family," Qualley joked. "I've never golfed a day in my life. I'm terrible, actually." "Happy Gilmore 2" will be released on July 25, 2025. Only Netflix's Tudum Could Put Lady Gaga, ‘Stranger Things,' Ben Affleck and ‘Love Is Blind' on the Same Stage. It Was Exhausting

With less than 10 minutes to go before Netflix's fan extravaganza Tudum began streaming live from the Kia Forum on Saturday, the crowd inside the Inglewood arena was noticeably sparse and listless. More than half the seats remained empty, and those who were there weren't buzzing with anticipation so much as they were politely hanging out. To boost everyone's energy, a pre-show emcee turned up the music, commanded everyone to get out of their seats, and began shouting out some of Netflix luminaries who were about to take the stage.'The cast of 'Outer Banks' is here!' he said, to tepid applause. 'The cast of 'Stranger Things' is here!' he continued, to moderate cheers. 'Lady Gaga is here!' he concluded, and the audience, finally, began to roar. Once Tudum got underway, the Forum did fill up (though not to capacity), and the audience did respond with genuine enthusiasm for the parade of A-listers (Ben Affleck! Matt Damon! Daniel Craig! Adam Sandler! Jenna Ortega!) and blockbuster shows ('Squid Game'! 'One Piece'! 'Wednesday'!) that unfurled over the next two hours. Nothing else, however, kindled anywhere close to the raw exuberance that Lady Gaga — who's playing a guest role in Season 2 of 'Wednesday' — commanded for her two-song performance that closed the show. More from Variety Lady Gaga Does the Viral 'Wednesday' Dance, Performs 'Abracadabra' and 'Zombieboy' at Netflix's Tudum 'Wednesday' Season 2 Clip Reveals Haley Joel Osment as a Doll-Collecting Serial Killer 'Stranger Things' Season 5 Gets Three-Part Release, Series Finale Set for New Year's Eve Since its launch as a virtual fan event in 2020, Tudum has remained one of the most bewildering marketing gambits of the streaming era. Although several of Netflix's properties have developed robust fan bases, the overt conceit driving Tudum is that there is, somehow, a massive cohort of Netflix super fans with a rabid appetite for news about all of its programming. How else to explain the cognitive whiplash of ping-ponging from the casts of 'Outer Banks,' 'Ginny & Georgia,' 'Forever' and 'My Life With the Walter Boys' answering preselected fan questions, to pro wrestlers from 'Monday Night Raw' talking up the reality series 'WWE Unreal,' to the cast of 'One Piece' appearing accompanied by character descriptions that any fan of the series would never need. It's fair to acknowledge that there are people in the world whose Netflix diet could include YA dramas, pro wrestling and live-action anime. It's much more of a stretch to conclude that those same people are part of a core Netflix fandom that are also eagerly awaiting trailers for the next 'Knives Out' movie 'Wake Up Dead Man' and Guillermo del Toro's 'Frankenstein' with Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi, and dig the sight of Affleck and Damon as LAPD officers in the new original crime thriller 'The Rip,' and are excited for the return of Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald) in 'Happy Madison 2.' On their own, some of the segments showcasing these titles had their charms. Most of the 'Wake Up Dead Man' cast — including Kerry Washington, Jeremy Renner, Mila Kunis and Josh Brolin — joined writer-director Rian Johnson for an extended bit about melodramatic twists in murder mysteries. 'Happy Madison 2' stars Sandler, McDonald and Julie Bowen fielded audience questions (really, from their costars) with sportscaster Rich Eisen. Affleck and 'The Rip' costar Teyana Taylor teased each other about needing glasses to read the teleprompter. But smashing all of these disparate titles together into one omnibus event had a numbing effect, stifling the impact any single project could make. 'Stranger Things' stars Noah Schnapp, Caleb McLaughlin and Finn Wolfhard appeared for one of the most affecting presentations, sharing behind-the-scenes footage of their favorite early memories from the show when they were still adorable pre-pubescent moppets, before introducing an intense, all-too-brief preview of their fifth and final season. Immediately after the 'Stranger Things' teaser, the live presentation resumed with Vanessa Lachey presenting the crowd with kiss-cam shots of couples from 'Love Is Blind' and 'Love on the Spectrum,' who were in the audience. Netflix's position atop the industry is built on a business model of universality — they provide an unending buffet of entertainment for everyone — and Tudum certainly aligns with that messaging. Disney has adopted a similar approach with its D23 Expo, which last year offered a three-hour marathon presentation in the Honda Center in Anaheim that covered just about every corner of the company's output. It's a shock-and-awe strategy, a way to overwhelm consumers into seeing one's content as inescapable. But it's also antithetical to the genuine fan experience, which is built on a foundation of personal connection and authentic community — something, for instance, that Lady Gaga has expertly cultivated for nearly two decades. It's no wonder that she was Tudum's biggest draw. Hanumankind Joins Netflix Tudum 2025: The Live Event Performance Lineup

Netflix is gearing up to preview an extensive slate of releases at Netflix Tudum 2025: The Live Event, but the event wouldn't be complete without an accompanying live soundtrack. The streaming platform will host a performance from the Houston bred, Bangalore-based rapper Hanumankind when the live event streams live from the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on Saturday, May 31, Rolling Stone can exclusively announce. The event will include an additional performance from Lady Gaga. Hanumankind is already intertwined with the event premiere, having landed a placement for his hit single 'Run It Up' in the official trailer for the live event. The artist born Sooraj Cherukat previously entered the Netflix orbit with 'The Game Don't Stop,' the record he performed for the highly anticipated second season of Squid Game, the most-watched series in the platform's history. Hanumankind and Gaga will represent the musical portion of the night, while actors from Netflix series and films, including Outer Banks, The Life List, Ginny & Georgia, My Life with the Walter Boys, and more, are slated to make special appearances. 'I have moves and intentions. I have found purpose in what I do after years of not having it. There's a lot I want to say and that's purely through the art,' Hanumankind told Rolling Stone earlier this year, adding: 'It is easy for you to get overwhelmed by everything that happens on the outside — it's human nature.
