India Kawasaki Motors has announced a sweeping price cut for its KLX 230 dual-sport motorcycle, now available at Rs 1.99 lakh (ex-showroom), down from Rs 3.30 lakh. The Rs 1.3 lakh reduction comes as the bike shifts from being a completely built-up (CBU) import to local manufacturing in India, making the off-road-oriented machine far more accessible to enthusiasts. advertisementDesign and featuresThe KLX 230 is Kawasaki's first dual-sport street-legal motorcycle for India, carrying a rugged, minimalist design and trail-focused stance. Available in Lime Green and Battle Grey, it features a KX-inspired bodywork, slim fuel tank (7.5 litres), high-tensile steel perimeter frame, and a flat single-piece seat for easy rider movement. Up front, a compact LED headlamp with a white-tinted beam offers strong illumination, paired with a minimalist all-digital LCD cluster that displays speed, odometer, dual trip meters, fuel gauge, and clock. Optional Bluetooth connectivity adds convenience for day-to-day riding. Powertrain and performance Power comes from a 233cc, air-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, 2-valve, fuel-injected single-cylinder engine producing 19bhp at 8,000rpm and 19Nm at 6,000rpm, mated to a 6-speed return-shift gearbox. The engine is tuned for strong low- to mid-range torque, ideal for technical trails, with smooth and linear acceleration. Electric start ensures quick ignition, while the simple air-cooled setup keeps weight low and maintenance easy, key for remote trail and suspensionBuilt around a perimeter, high-tensile steel frame with a short wheelbase (1,370 mm) and a tall 880mm seat height, the KLX 230 offers 255mm of ground clearance, making it adept at clearing off-road obstacles. The bike rides on large-diameter 21-inch front and 18-inch rear steel spoke wheels, shod with dual-purpose tyres for grip across varied terrain. Suspension duties are handled by a 37mm telescopic fork (220mm travel) at the front and Uni-Trak-linked monoshock (223mm travel) at the rear. Braking and safetyBraking is via a 290mm front petal disc with dual-piston caliper and a 230mm rear petal disc with single-piston caliper.
