Thane accident: Trains move at slower speed on Mumbra stretch after mishap claim commuters, CR cites different reason
Interestingly, this is a day after railway activists and regular commuters blamed the trains on the fast tracks cruising at high speeds at the sharp curvature at the northern end of Mumbra platforms 3 and 4 for possibly being the cause of the freak Monday mishap where four passengers died and ten others suffered injuries. An initial probe by the railway police had revealed the bags dangling out of the coaches of passengers travelling on the footboard may have brushed against each other, causing the mishap.
Mumbra commuter activist Rafique Sheikh said trains were moving at a slower speed at the spot compared to the previous day. The Central Railways, however, claimed a speed restriction was imposed, but it was not due to the Monday incident. 'There was some engineering work going on at a spot 1.5 km away from the spot,' said CR Chief PRO Swapnil Nila.
Meanwhile, activists said they alerted the administration about three spots between Diva and Kalwa as potential danger spots.

Diva-based activist Ananda Patil said he wrote to the railways three months back, highlighting how trains leaned dangerously to one side while crossing the stretches. 'There are three spots between Diva and Kalwa which pose threats, but to date, there is no corrective action except for a statement by the administration declaring the spot to be as per the standards,' said Patil.
Nila also dismissed the possibility and defended that the curvature was as per the norms. Meanwhile, the local staff from Mumbra station who attended to the mishap victims were likely to be called in for questioning. The railway police, guided by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Railways, CSMT, also inspected the spot where the victims were found following the mishap to look for clues. 'We are likely to access the CCTV footage of the spot along with the train pilot and manager of the CSMT and Karjat locals,' informed a police official requesting anonymity.

Madhya Pradesh lawyer who went missing during train journey 2 weeks ago found alive, but mystery remains
Madhya Pradesh's Government Railway Police on Tuesday said Archana Tiwari, the 29-year-old lawyer who went missing on the eve of Rakshabandhan during a train journey to her hometown, has been traced to an undisclosed location. 'Our team is headed to her location and will make contact with her. We will question her and then only reveal why she disappeared,' GRP Superintendent Rahul Kumar Lodha told The Indian Express. On reports that Archana's ticket had been booked by a Gwalior-based policeman who was in touch with her over the past two years, the GRP said only an investigation would shed further light on the case. 'We are investigating the claims,' Lodha said. Her family members have also said she made contact with them, but have refused to divulge any further details. The disappearance of the 29-year-old had sparked a multi-state search and raised questions about what happened during what should have been a routine 12-hour journey home. She is a lawyer practising at the Madhya Pradesh High Court's Indore bench and has also been preparing for civil judge examinations. She was living in a hostel in Indore. On the morning of August 5, two days before Rakshabandhan, Archana left her Indore hostel with her bag packed with festival gifts and boarded the Narmada Express. At 10.16 pm that night, Archana called her aunt and said she had reached near Bhopal. This would be her last known communication for nearly two weeks. When the train pulled into Katni South railway station the next morning, her family stood waiting on the platform but Archana did not come out. Her last digital trace was a cell tower ping near the Narmada Railway Bridge in Narmadapuram district, a location that later become the epicentre of search operations. The search for Archana had become a coordinated effort spanning multiple states. Police teams scoured areas from Rani Kamalapati railway station to Itarsi and Katni, analysing CCTV footage from stations and surrounding areas.

Land worth Rs 1 crore belonging to father of Pakistan-based militant attached by J-K Police
The Jammu and Kashmir Police said it attached a parcel of land in north Kashmir's Baramullah district that belonged to the father of a Pakistan-based militant. The land, measuring 3 kanals and 18 marlas (roughly 0.5 acre), belonged to Mohammad Maqbool Dar, the father of Pakistan-based militant Asif Maqbool Dar, who was designated a terrorist by the Ministry of Home Affairs in 2023 under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). Police said attaching the land located at Bandi Payeen village in Baramulla was a 'major step in dismantling the terror networks and their support structures'. 'Srinagar police have attached orchard land measuring 3 kanals and 18 marlas, valued at approximately Rs 1 crore, belonging to designated terrorist Asif Maqbool Dar, son of Mohd. Maqbool Dar, who is presently operating from across the border. The property is located at Bandi Payeen, district Baramulla,' the police said in a statement. 'Although the property is formally held in the name of his father, Mohd. Maqbool Dar… investigations have established that Asif Maqbool Dar is an active stakeholder,' police said, adding, 'He has been involved in facilitating terrorism, spreading anti-national propaganda, and inciting disaffection against the government through various social media platforms for several years.' Police said the attachment of the land is aimed at sending a message to anti-national elements. 'This decisive action by Srinagar police is intended to send a clear and strong message — those engaged in anti-national and terror-related activities will face strict legal consequences, including forfeiture of their assets,' police said. In a separate incident, the Anantnag police have attached land belonging to Adil Hussain Thoker, a militant from south Kashmir's Bijbehera. Thoker's house had been demolished after his name cropped up in the Pahalgam terror attack. However, the NIA later said that only three Pakistani nationals were behind the attack. 'The action has been taken in connection with FIR No. 11/2023 registered under Sections 20, 38 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and Sections 2/3 of the EIMCO Act,' police said, adding, 'This attachment is part of lawful measures aimed at dismantling the support structure of terrorism in the district.'

Customer or ‘gangster': Ludhiana police's hasty FIR raises eyebrows
The Ludhiana police face embarrassment after rushing to lodge an FIR of conspiracy to murder without verifying the identity of the 'accused' seen in CCTV footage from a shoe shop in Ludhiana's Sector 32. The FIR was lodged on the complaint of shoe trader Gurvinder Singh Prinkle, who claimed that Lakhu Baba entered his shop in his absence and threatened his staff with a pistol. What was believed to be gangster Lakhu Baba entering the shop with a pistol, as per the complainant, turned out to be a regular customer, only looking for a pair of new shoes. The Division Number 7 police had booked eight persons, including gangster Lakhbir Singh, alias Lakhu Baba, of Jalandhar and his associate Rishav Benipal, under stringent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including abetment to murder, criminal conspiracy, criminal intimidation, rioting, and under the Arms Act. The FIR was lodged on the complaint of shoe trader Gurvinder Singh Prinkle, who claimed that Lakhu Baba entered his shop in his absence and threatened his staff with a pistol. Prinkle claimed that Lakhu Baba was acting at the behest of gangster Rishav Benipal, who had opened fire at him at his shop in September 2024. Prinkle also submitted a CCTV footage of the 'accused' and shared it online. Eventually encountering the video online, the man in the video, Sachin of Bhattian Colony, a Ludhiana-based salesman, was shocked to realise the allegations against him. Releasing a video, he clarified that he was merely visiting the shop to enquire about shoe prices and had no connection with any gangsters. 'I earn only ₹500 a day working at a shop. I went there to check prices, found them costly and left. Later, I was shocked to learn that the police had booked me in a conspiracy-to-murder case based on the CCTV footage. My children have started doubting me after watching the video. This humiliation is forcing me to think of ending my life,' Sachin said in his video. The incident has raised serious questions about the credibility of the investigation process adopted by the police before lodging the case, simply based on CCTV visuals without cross-checking identities. The case is now under review. When contacted, ADCP (City 4) Mandeep Singh said, 'We will reinvestigate the matter and cancel the FIR if it turns out to be a case of mistaken identity.' The complainant, Prinkle, himself was also arrested on Tuesday for using 'derogatory' remarks on social against an advocate and his kin.
