Shreya Dhanwanthary Slams CBFC For Cutting Kissing Scene In Superman: ‘Absolute Nonsense'

News1815 hours ago
The new Superman film, directed by James Gunn, released worldwide this Friday, on July 11. However, viewers in India were disappointed after discovering that the CBFC certain scenes had been removed from the film. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) reportedly made multiple edits and cuts, which also include trimming a 33-second kiss between David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan. Actress Shreya Dhanwanthary, known for her role in The Family Man, has now strongly criticizedhol CBFC's censorship of the kissing scene in Superman, calling it 'absolute nonsense'. She argued that viewers should have the freedom to choose what they watch, and pointed out that such censorship drives audiences away from cinemas.
Shreya Dhanwanthary took to her Instagram Stories to share a screenshot of a news article with the headline, 'CBFC deletes 33-second-long 'sensual visual' in Superman." She then went on to slam the decision to cut the scene, and wrote, 'What absolute NONSENSE is this?! They want us to go to the theatres. They want us to stop pirating stuff. I don't understand. Why make the theatre going experience so horrible then? LET US DECIDE WHAT WE WANT TO WATCH!!!! Let us decide what we want to do with our time and money!"

Dean Cain calls out James Gunn for calling Superman an 'immigrant'

Former Superman star Dean Cain has come out strongly against filmmaker James Gunn for his recent remarks about the superhero. The actor, known for portraying the iconic DC Comics character in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, described Gunn as "woke" for calling the character an "immigrant". Cain compared DC Studios adapting Superman to modern times with Disney's recent Snow White remake. "Why are they going to change these characters (to) exist for the times?" asked Cain. The actor's comments come shortly after Gunn described Superman as America's story, which bats for "basic human kindness" at a time when the idea itself has lost its meaning. Meanwhile, the filmmaker's brother Sean Gunn, playing Maxwell Lord in Superman, supported him and underscored the vital part that immigrants play in American society. The actor stated, "The people that we support in this country are immigrants and if you don't like that, you're not American." While Cain agreed with the notion about Superman being an immigrant, he argued that the USA has certain rules and policies in relation to immigration for a reason. According to the actor, the country cannot let in every foreigner because otherwise, "society will fail". He went on to suggest that, if not for these rules, it would be similar to Somalia. Conservatives in the USA seemingly believe that progressive social agendas have diluted Superman, moving it away from his classic heroic archetype and associating it with undesirable elements, such as the superimposition of 'MS-13' on the superhero suit. Besides James and Sean Gunn, actor Nathan Fillion, who plays Guy Gardner (Green Lantern) in Superman, also tried to defuse the controversy, terming it "just a movie".

‘Janaki V vs State of Kerala' gets CBFC's U/A certificate

Kochi: Amid a controversy over its title, Malayalam movie 'Janaki V vs State of Kerala' has received a U/A certificate for release from Central Board of Film Certification. The movie's director, Pravin Narayan, announced the certification rating for the movie on social media platforms. CBFC had strongly opposed the title 'Janaki vs State of Kerala', following which the producers agreed to change the title to 'Janaki V vs State of Kerala' after the issue was brought to the high court. In an earlier affidavit opposing the certification, CBFC argued that the depiction of a character named after the deity Sita, being subjected to provocative questions, could hurt religious sentiments. Though CBFC has cleared the revised title, the date of the movie's release is yet to be finalized. Earlier, the movie was scheduled to be released on July 17, but the plan changed after the legal dispute over the title.
