Snoop Dogg to honour mother with new gospel album
Snoop Dogg is to pay tribute to his late mother, Beverly Tate, with his new gospel album.
Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, the rapper announced that he will be honouring his church roots with his next project, titled Altar Call.
The 21-song album is set to drop on 27 April.
"Good afternoon loved ones. April 27, I'm dropping a gospel album on Death Row Records. It's called Altar Call," he said in a video. "You heard it first. A gospel album, April 27. God is good. Won't he do it?"
An image of Beverly, who died in 2021, features on the cover art.
And a glimpse of the track listing reveals Altar Call will include collaborations with the likes of Jamie Foxx, Jazze Pha, and Jane Handcock, among others.
Following the news, Snoop reflected on his decision to record the album in an interview for website Okayplayer.
"The spirit of my mother will forever live within me," he said. "This album is a reflection of what she has taught me - to use my voice and my platform to spread love and heal the world. Just another chapter out of the Bible of Love."
Snoop released his first gospel album, Bible of Love, in 2018.
The record featured guest appearances from artists including Faith Evans and Rance Allen.

Schedule set for bowl games, College Football Playoff
The college football season, set to kick off in August, will culminate with the College Football Playoff national championship game in Miami on Jan. 19. A five-week bowl season begins Dec. 13 with a noon ET kickoff in Atlanta in the Cricket Celebration Bowl, but cheer up grasshopper, there are 44 total games scheduled to be played after conference title games are in the books. A team who doesn't receive a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff has the potential to play games in six consecutive months, with 17 possible games for teams participating in conference championship games in December. The marquee games in the College Football Playoff are scheduled to begin Friday, Dec. 19 with one game and continue with three more Saturday, Dec. 20. Winners advance to the quarterfinals played Dec. 31 (Cotton Bowl, Arlington, Texas) and a tripleheader on Thursday, Jan. 1 (Orange Bowl, Miami, noon ET). The Rose Bowl in Pasadena kicks off at 4 p.m. ET and is followed by the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans at 8 p.m. ET. Mariah Carey Returns With Fiery Single ‘Type Dangerous'
Mariah Carey has released a new single, 'Type Dangerous.' The song is the pop singer's first new release in several years, with her most recent album, Caution, arriving in 2018. The track presumably teases her next LP. 'Looking for the dangerous type,' she croons on the upbeat number. 'I like them dangerous/ That's my type/ I said I love them dangerous.'
