The Hindu04-06-2025
Former Minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) MLC Botcha Satyanarayana collapsed during a rally held in Cheepurupalli, Vizianagaram district, on Wednesday (May 4, 2025). The event was part of the 'Vennupotu Dinam' protests organised by the YSRCP to mark the formation of one year of the NDA government, following a call by the YSRCP president and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Mr. Satyanarayana, who is in-charge of Cheepurupalli Assembly Constituency, was addressing a large gathering of protestors from atop a vehicle when he suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed.
Former MP Bellana Chandrasekhar and other party members, who accompanied him, quickly rushed him to the YSRCP camp office in Garividi. A team of doctors were also rushed to the senior leader.
Local party leaders opined that the incident may have been caused by heatstroke. For the past few days, day temperatures have been hovering around 35 to 40 degree Celsius across many places in Uttarandhra districts.

AIIMS-R pays tribute to Lt Rajiv Pandey, felicitates his mother

Raipur: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Raipur, paid a heartfelt tribute to Second Lieutenant Rajiv Pandey, Vir Chakra, who sacrificed his life for the nation on 29 May 1987 at Siachen Glacier . On the occasion of 79th Independence Day, AIIMS Raipur felicitated Pandey's mother, Shakuntala Pandey. The event's theme was "Honouring freedom, inspiring the future". A resident of Raipur, Rajiv Pandey was born to Col R P Pandey (Retd), an Army surgeon, and Shakuntala Pandey. He was commissioned into the 8 JAK LI (Siachen) battalion, also known as the 'Bravest of the Brave.' In May 1987, Second Lieutenant Rajiv Pandey led a reconnaissance mission to capture Quaid Post at 21,000 feet. Just 30 metres from the peak, Pandey and five of his comrades were killed while securing the approach route. He was posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra for his bravery, which paved the way for the capture of the post. The post was later renamed Bana Top after Nb Sub Bana Singh, PVC. Lt Gen Ashok Jindal (Retd), Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS, Raipur, served as a medical officer with 8 JAK LI on Siachen Glacier shortly after the operation. Jindal shared that Second Lieutenant Rajiv Pandey became an inspiration for him and his fellow soldiers. He recalled in his chapter "A Doctor Remembers the Battle," from the book Beyond NJ 9842: The Siachen Saga by Nitin A Gokhle, that he was inducted into the Northern glacier in July 1987 for a four-month tenure. He reached Kumar Base, where the battalion headquarters of 8 JAK LI was located. Jindal said that one heard stories of the heroic capture of Bana Top by the soldiers. The battle was codenamed Operation Rajiv, after Second Lieutenant Rajiv Pandey, who was martyred while establishing a rope base. Jindal also remembered that the officer's shelter at Kumar Base had a birthday card sent by Pandey's sister, which arrived a day after his martyrdom. The doctor whom he was relieving told him that the entire battalion volunteered for Operation Rajiv. While he handled many gunshot wounds, casualties due to severe frostbite far outnumbered the actual battle casualties. The men fought for three consecutive nights at minus 30 degrees Celsius. Under the TB Mukt Chhattisgarh Abhiyan, food baskets were distributed to TB patients by Nikshay Mitras, an event organised by the National Tuberculosis Elimination Unit (NTEP). New Andhra Pradesh BJP chief APN Madhav charts roadmap for growth

With the formation of the NDA government in the state and TDP being a crucial partner at the centre, the BJP had been playing a secondary role in Andhra Pradesh. However, with the new state president APN Madhav, the party has started looking to expand its support base in the southern states. After taking over as state BJP president, Madhav has been constantly touring the state. In July, he went on a statewide yatra starting from Kadapa, appealing to party workers to highlight the achievements of the Modi government, especially people-centric schemes. In July, the party organized a massive Shobha Yatra in Puttaparthi aimed at spreading spiritual ethos among workers and the state populace. While in the Rayalaseema region, he addressed farmers' concerns and said he would put pressure on the state government to expedite the Handri-Neeva irrigation project 's completion. Two weeks ago in Guntur, Madhav said that landmarks with colonial names should be changed and demanded renaming the Jinnah Tower in Guntur. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Do you have a mouse? Double standards of Centre and State govt. exposed one more time, alleges KTR

HYDERABAD Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao has ridiculed the double standards of the NDA government and the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA), stating that they are not acting on the sinking of the coffer dam of the Polavaram project for the second time. In a statement, Mr. Rao said on Saturday that the NDSA had not taken up investigation into the washing away of the Polavaram cofferdam in 2020 that happened for the first time, even after being asked to go into the matter. The NDA government gave national project status to Polavaram and funded its construction - but is not looking into the quality aspects of construction, he said. During the run-up to the last Assembly elections in Telangana, a few piers of the Medigadda Barrage of Kaleshwaram project sank and damaged the structure under suspicious circumstances, but neither the BJP leaders nor those of the Congress, who had been indulging in mudslinging on Kaleshwaram project continuously, and terming it as 'kuleshwaram' (a collapsed project) repeatedly - had raised an issue on Polavaram, Mr. Rao said. He sought to know if the BJP and the Congress have the guts to term Polavaram as 'kulavaram' since its coffer dam was washed away once and sunk for the second time. In the second instance, it sunk for 10 meters width and about 8 meters deep, and the Andhra Pradesh government had taken up repairs on a war-footing silently, he said. On the other hand, the 'foolishness' of the Congress government is preventing it from taking up repairs on Medigadda Barrage and in giving water to the large ayacut depending on waters lifted from the point, even 20 months after coming to power, he said. Further, the NDSA proved its double standards by not taking up investigation into the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel collapse in February that buried eight workers, technicians and engineers alive. It is also indicative of the Congress-BJP conspiracy against Kaleshwaram, he alleged.
