For safe travel, continuous safety audits, measures and emergency service improvements are being implemented through multi-agency coordination, and a key component is coordination and partnership, in which cooperation is being taken through seven consultation meetings with Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), Police, Health Department.

Indian and Swiss business chambers sign strategic partnership agreement to boost trade relations
The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India ( ASSOCHAM ) and Swissmem -- Switzerland's leading mechanical and electrical engineering industries association -- have formalised a three-year partnership agreement aimed at strengthening business cooperation between the two nations. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Tuesday at the Swissmem Industry Day in Bern. It establishes a comprehensive framework for enhanced trade relations, technology transfer, and investment opportunities between Indian and Swiss companies. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal just completed his two-day visit to Switzerland. His next trip is to Sweden. The Indo-Swiss partnership encompasses several key areas of collaboration designed to benefit member companies from both organisations. The agreement enables both chambers to exchange crucial market intelligence, including information on trade opportunities, investment prospects, economic policies, and foreign trade legislation affecting both countries. Live Events The partnership will facilitate technology transfer initiatives and joint ventures between Indian and Swiss companies, particularly in the mechanical and electrical engineering sectors where Swissmem members excel. Both the industry bodies commit to supporting trade missions, study groups, and mutual participation in industrial exhibitions and trade fairs, helping member companies establish direct business connections. The MoU provides for joint workshops, technical seminars, and conferences that will showcase new products and emerging technologies to business communities in both countries. ASSOCHAM, headquartered in New Delhi, represents one of India's most influential business advocacy organizations, while Swissmem serves as the voice of Switzerland's precision engineering and technology sectors. The partnership comes at a time when both countries are seeking to diversify their trade relationships and strengthen economic ties. "This agreement creates a structured platform for our member companies to explore new markets and forge meaningful business partnerships," said a representative familiar with the negotiations. The framework is expected to be particularly beneficial for small and medium enterprises looking to expand internationally. The partnership includes robust provisions for intellectual property protection, with any jointly developed IP to be co-owned by both parties. Confidentiality protocols ensure sensitive business information shared through the collaboration remains protected for up to three years post-agreement. The MoU establishes clear guidelines for joint branding and promotional activities, requiring written approval for the use of organizational logos in collaborative initiatives. All specific projects under the agreement will be governed by separate detailed contracts addressing financial arrangements and implementation procedures. The agreement is valid through June 2028 and can be renewed by mutual consent. Either party may terminate the partnership with three months' written notice, though termination would not affect ongoing projects initiated under the framework. Both organisations have committed to resolving disputes through mutual consultation, emphasising the partnership's collaborative spirit. The non-binding nature of the agreement provides flexibility while establishing clear expectations for cooperation.

Devendra Fadnavis launches NCM card for Mumbai Metro Line 3 passengers
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday launched the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) for Mumbai Metro Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line, in a move to unify the city's public transport system. The contactless RuPay NCM card that can be operated from Wednesday allows passengers to ride seamlessly between Metro Line 3 stations, from Aarey JVLR to Acharya Atre Chowk, without standing in long queues at ticketing counters. It is completely interoperable with other key Mumbai Metro lines — Line 1, Line 2A, and Line 7 — along with other transportation systems like Chalo Buses, providing a smooth multi-modal travel experience. The launch was held in the presence of Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik, and other senior officials. The initiative by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRC) is being executed in partnership with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and the State Bank of India (SBI). The existing commuters who already possess NCMC cards from SBI or other players can use their cards on Line 3 from Wednesday, officials said. New riders may get a free card from any Metro Line 3 station or SBI branches that are participating, with a minimum top-up of Rs 100 and a maximum of Rs 2,000, they added. Addressing the launch, MMRC Managing Director Ashwini Bhide stated, 'The NCMC card integration in Mumbai Metro Line 3 is a significant milestone in our path towards smart and commuter-centric urban transport. Being the city's first totally underground Metro corridor, Line 3 is planned with future-proof infrastructure and this contactless payment solution with ease is an integral part of that vision. We are excited to collaborate with NPCI and SBI to facilitate a seamless, hassle-free travel experience for Mumbaikars and enable the Government of India's National Common Mobility Card programme.'

United Spirits, United Breweries and other liquor stocks slide up to 6% after Maharashtra hikes excise duties
Shares of liquor companies such as United Spirits , United Breweries , and Allied Blenders and Distillers slipped up to 6% on Wednesday after the Maharashtra government approved sweeping changes to liquor taxation and regulation aimed at boosting excise revenues. United Spirits fell as much as 6.2% to Rs 1,510.35 on the BSE, while United Breweries slipped 1.5% to Rs 2,034.60. Allied Blenders and Distillers also lost ground, declining 4.1% to Rs 426.75. The Maharashtra state cabinet, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on Tuesday approved a significant hike in excise duties on liquor alongside a series of structural reforms to tighten oversight and expand revenue collection. The measures are expected to add approximately Rs 14,000 crore annually to the Excise Department's revenue. Following the cabinet's decision, several liquor companies have reportedly raised prices across categories in the state. This comes as the excise duty on Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) with a declared manufacturing value of up to Rs 260 per bulk litre has been revised from three times to 4.5 times the manufacturing value. Similarly, the duty on country liquor has increased from Rs 180 to Rs 205 per proof litre. Consumers across Maharashtra will face higher prices at both retail outlets and hospitality establishments. The minimum retail price for a 180 ml bottle of country liquor has increased to Rs 80 from Rs 70. Indian-made foreign liquor has gone up to Rs 205 from Rs 110–115, while premium foreign liquor now starts at Rs 360, up from Rs 210. A new category, Maharashtra-made liquor, has been introduced, with a minimum price of Rs 148 for a 180ml bottle. Live Events New category, licensing fee hikes approved The cabinet also approved the creation of a new liquor category called Maharashtra-made liquor, which will be grain-based and produced exclusively by Maharashtra-based manufacturers. Producers will need to register new brands under this classification. In parallel, licensing costs for businesses operating in the liquor trade have been revised upward. Sealed foreign liquor retail licences (FL-2) will now incur an additional 15% fee, while hotel and restaurant licences (FL-3) will be subject to a 10% hike. Modernising regulation with AI and expansion To enhance regulatory oversight, the government has established a new divisional office in Mumbai, along with six new superintendent offices across key districts — Mumbai suburbs, Thane, Pune, Nashik, Nagpur, and Ahilyanagar. The organisational revamp includes the creation of 1,223 new posts, comprising 744 fresh positions and 479 supervisory roles. An integrated control room will also be set up, equipped with an AI-based system to monitor liquor manufacturing, distilleries, and wholesale activity across the state. The move stems from recommendations submitted by a secretary-level study group that reviewed policies and best practices from other states.
