Michael Maguire hit with Reece Walsh dilemma after season-ending injury blow
Broncos coach Michael Maguire is set to lose exciting star Hayze Perham for the season after the 25-year-old reportedly tore his ACL during the trial game against the Titans on the weekend. Perham had been one of the few players to have made a huge impression on Maguire in his brutal pre-season camp.
The fullback was training the house down and showed he was ready to replace any star who suffered an injury in the backline with Perham also proving to be a capable replacement for Reece Walsh. However, reports suggest Perham suffered an ACL injury when running up for a hit-up on the weekend.
Footage shows Perham stepping back onto his left, but buckling as he braced for impact. Perham left the field limping with seven minutes left in the first-half.
Unfortunately, reports suggest Perham will miss the entire 2025 NRL season. NRL Physio, Brien Seeney, claimed it appeared to be a textbook non-contact knee injury and recovery time would be around nine months. This would rule the 25-year-old out for his first season at the Broncos after a career switch.
Perham made the move from the Bulldogs to join the Broncos under Maguire with the hope he would get some NRL action. While Selwyn Cobbo could have replaced Walsh at fullback, Perham was selected in the trial game against the Titans and was looking to be a solid deputy across the entire backline in 2025.
Perham was part of the Broncos outfit that looked fit and sharp as they hammered the Titans 50-12 with a number of players putting their hands up for selection. One such player was Corey Paix who is making a real case to be the starting No.9 in round one for Maguire's Broncos outfit.

Bad news for the Broncos with reports emerging new recruit Hayze Perham suffered a ruptured ACL yesterday.Brisbane had hoped he would provide depth in an outside back corps ravaged by injury in 2024 and his loss is a sizeable blow.

Paix has been one of the stars of the Broncos pre-season so far having potentially leapfrogged Billy Walters in the starting side. Under former coach Kevin Walters, Billy played No.9 for the 2024 season with Paix overlooked.
However, Paix continues to push his case to take the starting jersey off Walters and didn't do his chances any harm on the weekend. Paix scored two tries as he showcased his speed from dummy-half in an exciting audition. Paix said he followed Maguire's instructions prior to the game and is ready to take that starting position if given the opportunity.
"I went out and did my job. Madge (Maguire) gave me clear instructions to go out and front-load. I felt really good and I felt comfortable," Paix said. "I always thought I had to go back (to Queensland Cup in 2024) and work really hard. I did that at Wynnum. To train well in pre-season and play well today was pleasing. It is a clean slate here. I knew if I went and worked hard I would give myself a chance to be there round one."
Another potential player who looked promising in the Broncos' first hit-out was Kobe Hetherington. Former coach Walters wasn't overly keen on Hetherington with the forward told he could potentially look for a new club.
However, Maguire reversed the decision and told Hetherington he had an opportunity to show him he could be a starter. And Hetherington pushed his case to start at lock for the 2025 season, which would see Patrick Carrigan move into the front row. Towering Broncos prop Ben Te Kura is also firming for a potential bench position for the Broncos' opening game of the season.

Longtime Browns RB and legend Nick Chubb expected to sign with Texans
Longtime Browns RB and legend Nick Chubb expected to sign with Texans We have likely seen the last of running back Nick Chubb in a Cleveland Browns uniform. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport has reported that, barring a bad physical, the former All-Pro running back is expected to sign with the Houston Texans on Monday. This comes after Chubb suffered season-ending injuries in back-to-back seasons to end his time in Cleveland. This includes a devastating tear of his ACL and MCL in 2023. The writing was on the wall in Cleveland at the end of April. The Browns drafted not one, but two running backs in the middle rounds of the 2025 NFL draft. They used a top-40 pick on Ohio State running back Quinshon Judkins, then turned around to use their fourth round pick on Tennessee's Dylan Sampson. The Browns also renegotiated the final year of Jerome Ford's contract to lower his base salary, effectively securing his roster spot. The Browns have committed to overhauling their running back room with youth. Chubb ends his time in Cleveland with over 6,800 yards and 51 touchdowns on the ground. He made four Pro Bowls during his time in Northeast Ohio. He will forever go down as one of the best to put on the brown and orange uniform over his seven years spent in Cleveland. Best of luck to a Cleveland legend as he looks to rejuvenate his career in Houston.

'So wrong': Billy Slater under fire for Ezra Mam call as Maroons axe Cherry-Evans
Queensland coach Billy Slater is facing mounting criticism after calling up controversial Broncos star Ezra Mam to his State of Origin squad for Game 2, according to . While veteran halfback Daly Cherry-Evans has become the first Maroons skipper this century to be axed mid-series as Slater attempts to keep the series alive in Game 2 in Perth and help Queensland try to avoid a first Blues clean sweep in 25 years. Slater will officially unveil Queensland's squad on Monday morning, but it's understood Cherry-Evans will not feature in the 20-man group. Instead, Slater has handed Tom Dearden the Maroons' No.7 jersey after the Cowboys star was one of the rare shining lights off the bench for Queensland in the series opener. In another eye-opening call, Slater has decided to drop Titans edge forward Beau Fermor and hand a recall to veteran Warriors star Kurt Capewell, who played Games 2 and 3 in last year's series after being overlooked for Game 1. Capewell was told by Maroons officials to remain behind in Australia rather than travel back to New Zealand with the rest of his teammates after the Warriors' impressive round 14 victory over the Sharks on Saturday. The most contentious call appears to be the inclusion of Mam in the Maroons' extended 20-man squad, with many critics arguing that he shouldn't even be playing this season. Mam is only three games back from a nine-week suspension for a drug-driving scandal last October. RELATED: 'Shouldn't be involved': Wayne Bennett hit with ban by NRL Mary Fowler dream could be ruined amid Nathan Cleary news The Brisbane star has already had a taste of the public backlash against him after being mercilessly booed during Brisbane's thumping by Manly in round 13. Mam had a solid hit-out in Brisbane's big win over the Titans on Saturday night but suffered a minor strain to his knee that requires an MRI scan. But his inclusion in Slater's extended Maroons squad has left many fans seeing red. This is so wrong on so many levels. He should'nt even be playing NRL this year — Alice (@Aliceh_1936) June 8, 2025 They always used to bang on about QLD owning loyalty and they 'pick & stick' I don't understand this! But then I'm from NSW and was always told we don't 'get Origin!' I love this. Hopefully your lack of humility comes back twofold over the next few years! — Luke A (@hayrooster) June 8, 2025 Ezra man playing origin will be popcorn stuff there will be fights definitely. Can't believe no Fogarty or Corey hors. — Zeldon Singh (@SinghZeldon) June 8, 2025 Some things matter more than winning , and I just can't get behind Mam. He shouldn't be playing this season, let alone wearing a QLD jersey. This isn't on Mam; it's a failure of leadership in the game. They got it wrong. Again.#NRL #StateOfOrigin @FOXNRL @BuzzRothfield — JM (@byjohnmartin) June 8, 2025 If Queensland pick Mam they lose all hope and respect. You just can't put him on the highest platform we have. He doesn't deserve it. — Harry Knight (@hjknight92) June 8, 2025 Sack their captain and name Mam. Building great team and pick irrelevant after one game . Qld is a shambles — billy (@willwillia92973) June 8, 2025 Slater's biggest call is undoubtedly deciding to axe his skipper Cherry-Evans though, with Maroons legend Trevor Gillmeister the last Queensland captain to be dropped mid-series in the 1990s. Only Wally Lewis, Darren Lockyer and Cameron Smith have captained more Origin games for the state than DCE, making the call even more significant. The writing was on the wall for Cherry-Evans after Game 1 though, with growing calls for Dearden to replace the veteran No.7 after his superb form this season and impact off the bench in the series opener. Dearden's No.14 role for the Maroons is expected to be taken by Kurt Mann, who was part of the extended Maroons squad for Game 1. Plenty of fans have also called for Corey Horsburgh's inclusion to inject some much needed mongrel into a Queensland forward pack that was dominated in the Origin opener. But the Canberra forward has had to make do with a spot amongst the reserves with Mam and Storm centre Jack Howarth. Blues coach Laurie Daley looks set to stick solid with the side that got the job done in Game 1, with Storm prop Stefano Utoikamanu's inclusion at the expense of the injured Mitch Barnett the only enforced change. Rabbitohs wrecking ball Keaon Koloamatangi put up a strong case for inclusion but will have to settle for a spot in the extended squad alongside Matt Burton, Haumole Olakau'atu and Campbell Graham, with Tigers prop Terrell May once again overlooked. 1 Kalyn Ponga 2 Xavier Coates 3 Robert Toia 4 Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow 5 Valentine Holmes 6 Cameron Munster 7 Tom Dearden 8 Mo Fotuaika 9 Harry Grant 10 Tino Fa'asuamaleaui 11 Kurt Capewell 12 Jeremiah Nanai 13 Pat Carrigan Interchange: 14 Kurt Mann 15 Lindsay Collins 16 Reuben Cotter 17 Trent Loiero Reserves: Ezra Mam Jack Howarth Corey Horsburgh 1 Dylan Edwards 2 Brian To'o 3 Stephen Crichton 4 Latrell Mitchell 5 Zac Lomax 6 Mitch Moses 7 Nathan Cleary 8 Stefano Utoikamanu 9 Reece Robson 10 Payne Haas 11 Liam Martin 12 Angus Crichton 13 Isaah Yeo Interchange: 14 Connor Watson 15 Spencer Leniu 16 Hudson Young 17 Max King Reserves: Matt Burton Haumole Olakau'atu Campbell Graham Keaon Koloamatangi with AAP

5 best Trey Hendrickson trade landing spots from Cincinnati Bengals
Trey Hendrickson and the Cincinnati Bengals are at an impasse. The NFL's reigning sacks leader wants a contract extension and a raise that recognizes him as one of the best pass-rushers in the league. Meanwhile, the Bengals would much prefer their four-time Pro Bowler play out the rest of his contract, where he's set to have an $18.6 million cap hit in 2025, the final year of his deal. Recently, this situation has taken a turn for the worse, with Hendrickson taking his private spat with the Bengals public. Advertisement Now it's gotten to the point where some are wondering if a trade is inevitable. Yet, if the Bengals are still open to the idea of trading the All-Pro sack master, which teams should get involved? But if they do, it probably won't be to a fellow AFC contender. However, what if a team like the Tennessee Titans swoops in with an offer too good to refuse? The Bengals may not have an issue trading their star defender to a team that just finished with the No. 1 pick, especially if the offer is strong. Plus, they recently released Jadeveon Clowney. Could it have been a precursor to an even bigger move, like trading for Hendrickson?
