In his monthly 'Mann ki Baat' address, the Prime Minister said that in the last few weeks, a lot of events have taken place in the field of sports, science and culture which have made every Indian proud. "Recently, there was a lot of talk in the country over Shubhanshu Shukla's return from space. As soon as Shubhanshu landed safely on earth, people jumped with joy... a wave of happiness rippled through every heart. The entire country was filled with pride. I remember, when Chandrayaan-3 successfully landed in August 2023, a new ambience was created in the country. A new curiosity also arose among children about science and space," Modi said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday revealed that Indian armed forces successfully destroyed 1,000 missiles and drones launched by Pakistan on May 9 during Operation Sindoor, thwarting a major cross-border offensive. PM Modi praised the Armed Forces for their decisive response during Operation Sindoor.( PMO) "Our Air Defence Systems destroyed Pak missiles and drones. On May 9, Pakistan launched 1,000 missiles and drones on India. But all of them were destroyed in the air," PM Modi said while addressing the Lok Sabha during a two-day debate on the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. The Prime Minister praised the Armed Forces for their decisive response, stating that India carried out precision strikes on terror targets inside Pakistan. "We destroyed terror sites deep inside Pakistan within 22 minutes to avenge the April 22 Pahalgam attack. Pakistani airbases hit by India are still in ICU and the masterminds of the attack are having sleepless nights," he declared. Global support, domestic criticism PM Modi emphasized that no country attempted to deter India from defending itself against terrorism. "Only three countries spoke in favour of Pakistan at the UN. India got support from the entire world," he said. However, he expressed disappointment that the Congress party, India's main opposition, "did not support the valour of our soldiers" and instead "targeted me for political gains." He asserted that Congress' "frivolous statements" risked undermining the morale of Indian soldiers.

Decathlon targets India sourcing worth $3 billion by 2030
Decathlon, a French sports retailer brand, on Tuesday (July 29, 2025), said it has a strategic target to scale its local sourcing from India to $3 billion by 2030. Currently, India accounts for 8% of Decathlon's global sourcing quantities, with a goal to scale this to 15% by 2030, according to the company. This growth would be driven by a focused push in high-potential categories such as footwear, fitness equipment, and technical textiles — designed to meet the evolving demands of both Indian consumers and global markets, said Decathlon whose operations turned 25 years in India. Addressing a media conference, Sankar Chatterjee, chief executive officer, Decathlon India, said, over the last 25 years, Decathlon's production journey in India has been the backbone of the brand's success in the country. Over 70% of the quantities sold by Decathlon in India in 2025 will be made in India. This figure is expected to rise to 90% by 2030, reinforcing the brand's focus on its local sourcing strategy. The brand's local production ecosystem includes a Design Centre, which is supported by 113 manufacturing sites, 83 suppliers, and 7 production offices across India. 'Today, we're able to offer a diverse and growing portfolio of categories, made in India that meet the evolving needs of Indian sport users,'' he said, adding, as the brand continued to strengthen its footprint across offline and omni-channel platforms, production excellence remained at the heart of Decathlon's strategy. As part of its growth journey, Decathlon was working to create more than 3,00,000 new direct and indirect jobs in the country across its production ecosystem. The brand would also deepen its focus on culturally rooted sports like yoga and cricket, with the latter entirely conceptualised and manufactured in India. Decathlon currently operates 132 stores across 55 cities in India and it plans to expand its retail footprint to over 90 cities by 2030.

In Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi questions political will behind Operation Sindoor
Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday (July 29, 2025) accused the government of lacking the political will to support the Indian armed forces and claimed it revealed sensitive details about Operation Sindoor to Pakistan. "Rajnath Singh said Operation Sindoor began at 1:05 AM and that by 1:35 AM, India had already called Pakistan to inform them that we had hit non-military targets and that we did not want escalation," Mr. Gandhi said. "These are not my words. These are the words of India's Defence Minister," he said. "The aircraft were lost because the political leadership had tied the hands of the armed forces by deciding not to attack military and air defence infrastructure in Pakistan," he said. Mr. Gandhi quoted India's defence attache in Indonesia to attack the government, saying you told pilots not to attack their air defence system.
