Barcelona fans makes Marcus Rashford feelings clear after 'miss of the season' calamity
Barcelona fans have hailed Marcus Rashford's first start for the club - despite the Manchester United loanee missing an open goal. Rashford, 27, had come off the bench in Barca's three previous friendlies but the absence of Robert Lewandowski gave him the chance to lead the line during Sunday's 5-0 victory over Como.
The England international helped Barcelona get off to a flyer against the Italian side, assisting Raphinha's goal to make it 3-0 in 38th minute. Lamine Yamal made it four just before the break but there was still time for Rashford to get on the scoresheet.
Unfortunately, after latching onto a pass from Yamal and rounding Como goalkeeper Jean Butez, the on-loan star shaped up for a right-footed shot but dragged his effort wide of the post. Rashford was stunned with his miss and wouldn't get the chance to make amends after Hansi Flick subbed him off at half-time.
But the forward, who's a few weeks behind his team-mates in terms of fitness, still made a good impression. "Missing a goal doesn't define you, your awesome performance does, keep going Rashy," one fan commented on Rashford's Instagram post.
"So sad you missed that open shot you were unlucky my bro but you played really well," another said. "Don't try that against Real Madrid, okay," a third joked.
"Prime Rashy will be back it's a matter of time," one predicted. Team-mates Fermin Lopez and Ferran Torres also commented emojis on Rashford's post.
"Good performance, good win," the 27-year-old wrote as the caption. "Ready for what's coming."
Flick will have to decide whether what's coming is a start against Mallorca on Saturday or a place on the bench. With Lewandowski injured for the opening game of the La Liga season, the decision will be between Rashford and Torres.
Flick is a big fan of Rashford's versatility which makes him a useful option as a substitute. After beating South Korean giants Daegu 5-0 to conclude their pre-season tour of Asia, the Barca manager explained: "He can play at No.9 or No.11. We changed it because we had to be careful with Ferran. We wanted to see how he adapted to the position."
The United loanee feels that playing as a striker is becoming 'more natural'. "For me, playing as a number nine is becoming more comfortable, more natural," Rashford told Spanish Youtube channel xBuyer. "Small things, such as playing back to goal, it's becoming easier for me. You're always in front of the goal so you're always dangerous."

Arsenal transfer news: Man City join Rodrygo race as Gunners given Eberechi Eze boost
Arsenal have been heavily linked with signing Real Madrid star Rodrygo and Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze, as the Gunners prepare to take their spending beyond £200million Pre-season: done. Transfer business? Don't be so certain. Arsenal may've spent £195million on six new signings this summer but the Gunners don't plan on stopping there. Mikel Arteta and the players currently at his disposal are preparing to kick-off their Premier League campaign on Sunday away to Manchester United. Behind the scenes, however, newly-appointed sporting director Andrea Berta is working hard on ins and out, with less than three weeks to go until the summer transfer window closes. And it's clear which positions Arsenal are prioritising. Here's a round-up of the latest transfer news from the Emirates. Man City join race for Rodrygo Manchester City have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Rodrygo, who Real Madrid are willing to sell. Rodrygo, 24, was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates prior to the Gunners' decision to sign Noni Madueke for £52m. It's been claimed that Arsenal are keeping tabs on the Brazilian winger, though, and have now learned that City are also keen. Reports from Italy say that Pep Guardiola is a big fan of Rodrygo, with Real willing to accept a bid of around €100m (£86.5m). Should Arsenal make a bid for Rodrygo? Have your say in the comments section. Crystal Palace chief makes Eze admission Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish is resigned to the possibility of losing Eberechi Eze before the end of the window. Eze's £68m release clause expires on Friday and speculation over his future is set to intensify over the next few days. The England international helped Palace beat Liverpool to win the Community Shield on Sunday, after which Parish was asked about Eze's future. "Yeah listen, of course but players come and go in football clubs you know," the Palace chief admitted. "I mean it's a life cycle isn't it you know. Hopefully they're still here, that's what I'd like but we'll see." Hein attracting more interest La Liga newcomers Levante have become the latest club to register their interest in signing Karl Hein. The 23-year-old goalkeeper has entered the final year of his contract with Arsenal and is firmly behind David Raya, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Tommy Setford in Arteta's the pecking order. Cadena SER report that Levante are keen on Hein, who spent last season on loan in Spain with Real Valladolid, although he was unable to help them avoid relegation to the second tier. Rangers and Sevilla have also been linked with the Estonia international.

Spain federation approves plan to move Villarreal v Barcelona La Liga match to Miami
Barcelona and Villarreal could be set to contest the first European league match held in the United States after the Spanish football federation (RFEF) approved a La Liga plan to hold one of the teams' games this season in Miami, Florida. La Liga proposed the measure to the RFEF on Monday. With the RFEF's approval, the matter now requires the approval of Fifa, Uefa, and the host federation and confederation (US Soccer and Concacaf, respectively). The match in question was due to be played at Villarreal's home ground, the Estadio de la Cerámica, on 21 December. The proposed moving of the fixture will bring it to Hard Rock Stadium, home of the NFL's Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins are due to host the Cincinnati Bengals at Hard Rock Stadium on 21 December, so it's likely that the date of the La Liga fixture will need to be moved. Sign up to Soccer with Jonathan Wilson Jonathan Wilson brings expert analysis on the biggest stories from European soccer after newsletter promotion The plan was made possible by the dismissal of the lawsuit brought by Relevent Sports, a US-based events promoter, against Fifa and the US Soccer Federation. Notably, Relevent was founded and is owned by Stephen Ross, a real estate developer and the owner of the Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium. Relevent had initially sued Fifa and US Soccer in 2019 after attempting to hold a La Liga match in Miami the previous year – a proposal that US Soccer refused to sanction on account of a Fifa statute barring domestic league games from taking place away from their home territory. Relevent sued, contending the policy violated the United States' Sherman Antitrust Act – an 1890 piece of legislation designed to combat monopolies. Fifa and Relevent eventually settled their case with the understanding that Fifa would revisit the statute. The sides settled the case without prejudice, allowing Relevent the option of reopening litigation. Relevent made its name by hosting a number of pre-season events in the US featuring big-name European clubs. This year the organization signed a six-season deal with Uefa to be its global marketing and sales partner for men's club competitions, giving it the ability to sell rights to the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League.

Man Utd transfer news: Club set Carlos Baleba deadline as Marcus Rashford faces nightmare
Manchester United have continued to spend heavily throughout the summer transfer window but the Red Devils might not be totally finished when it comes to incoming transfers this summer Manchester United kick off their Premier League campaign THIS WEEK - and their squad has been transformed under Ruben Amorim. The Red Devils can boast a totally new front line following a lucrative summer transfer window. Both Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo put pen to paper on moves from Wolves and Brentford earlier this year. The pair have been followed by striker Benjamin Sesko, who completed a big-money switch from German side RB Leipzig. The Red Devils might not be totally finished there either. A new midfielder is potentially on their shortlist before next month's deadline amid links with Brighton 's Carlos Baleba. Away from incomings, United also need to focus on sales. Marcus Rashford has already departed and could be followed out of the door by Antony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and more. With that being said, take a look at all of the latest transfer news and rumours from Old Trafford… United set Baleba deadline Man United have been told to get a move on in their bid to sign Brighton's Baleba - or risk Real Madrid hijacking a switch. Speaking to talkSPORT, Troy Deeney said: 'I think United have to get Baleba this window, or they don't get him. 'If he has another good season, I do think other teams with Real Madrid and the like will come in and go 'Bosh, we'll have him'. 'I think if Man United want him…if I'm Ruben Amorim I'm kind of bullish on that. I'd be saying 'get this deal done because then I can get you into Europe'. If they can sign him, he can move them up 10 spaces [in the Premier League ].' Rashford facing Barcelona nightmare Barcelona chief Joan Laporta has admitted that Marcus Rashford might NOT be registered in time for the new season following his loan switch to Catalonia. 'We're working to make it happen," he said. 'With Marc's decision, we have the option of registering Joan Garcia, and we're working on the rest. This week we'll have news, hopefully good news, to see if we can register them before La Liga starts. And if we can't, we have time.' Barcelona have until the end of August to sort the issue out - albeit Rashford could miss the start of the new La Liga campaign. Lopez speaks out Sticking with Barcelona, reported United target Fermin Lopez has said he has no intention of leaving the club any time soon. He said: "I want to stay here. It's my dream and I will stay, I'm happy to help the team. Many things have been said. "But I am going to continue defending these colours and working as hard as anyone else, so that the Catalans are calm.' Recent reports have claimed that United were considering a £61m offer for the midfielder.
