New Saints stun Swansea to win Adran Trophy

Yahoo09-02-2025
The New Saints secured their first domestic Welsh trophy with a 3-1 win over Swansea City in the Genero Adran Trophy final.
The result marked the first time since 2018 a team other than Swansea City, Cardiff City or Cardiff Met have won a major trophy.
TNS took an early lead within the opening two minutes of the game.
A misplaced back pass by Swans defender Caitlin Williams gave Chantelle Teare the opportunity to intercept and place the ball in the bottom left hand corner.
Player of the match Lexi Jones then doubled TNS' lead in the 20th minute with a stunning strike from outside of the box.
Things went from bad to worse for Jamie Sherwood's side as Lauren Davies' attempt to clear Maria Francis-Jones' cross resulted in an own goal.
Swans veteran Stacey John-Davies managed to get her name on the scoresheet in the second half but it wasn't enough for a Swansea side who were looking to end a two-year trophy drought.

Swansea City ratings as full-back shines in win over Sheffield United

Swansea City picked up their first win of the new Championship season by edging their way to an impressive 1-0 victory over Sheffield United at the Stadium. Ronald's goal midway through the second half proved enough to hand victory to Alan Sheehan's men. Here's how the players rated on the day. Josh Key 8 - STAR MAN So much energy on the right hand side. Did well defensively too, making some key clearances. Often in and around some Swansea's brightest moments. Ben Cabango (c) 8 Strong in the tackle. Made some really good interceptions too. Cameron Burgess 8 As above, really. Josh Tymon 8 Bombed up and down the left all day. Another superb showing. Goncalo Franco 7 Battled fairly well in the middle of the park, but wasn't quite his most influential game. Malick Yalcouye 7 Some really promising moments, including an early blocked shot. But was also caught in possession a couple of times. A solid debut, but hopefully more to come. Ronald 8 Should probably have scored in the first half, but put some good crosses in, and took his goal well. A good outing on the whole. Ethan Galbraith 7 Looked after possession reasonably well and linked up nicely with his colleagues in the final third. Good out of possession too. Jisung Eom 7 Really good in the build-up, but couldn't quite find a decisive outcome in the final third at times. Liam Cullen 7 Isolated for much of the first half, but was involved in the goal and grew into the game reasonably well. Subbed. Subs: Melker Widell (on for Yalcouye 62) - Should have scored a second for his side late on, but did okay - 6 Zeidane Inoussa (on for Eom 62) - Architect of the goal. Really good cameo - 7 Jay Fulton (on for Ronald 90) - N/A Bobby Wales (on for Cullen 90+7) - N/A

Derrick White on how some Boston Celtics teammates won't respect him until his 1st tech

No one will ever accuse Boston Celtics point guard Derrick White of being a timid player. But some of his own players jokingly tell him they will not respect him fully as a player until he picks up his first technical foul. To be fair, it is a bit odd that a player who has been in the NBA for a full eight seasons has not yet been nailed with a tech, but to the University of Colorado - Boulder alum's credit, it isn't like there haven't been opportunities. White got into that dynamic on a recent episode of his "White Noise" podcast with cohost Welsh, who ribbed him that one of White's youngest teammates managed to get himself tossed from a game in this year's Las Vegas Summer League. "There are guys on the team that have been giving me hell about not having a technical foul," said White. "Jayson Tatum told me he doesn't respect me until I get a technical," he added. "We'll see. Not against him, but I'm not going to go out of my way to get one. I'm going to get ejected." "Like Jordan Walsh?" joked Welsh. "Yes. I watched Jay Walsh in the summer league," replied the Colorado native. "I got inspired." "I think Jay Walsh was the only person to get ejected in summer league this year, and so it's always great to be the only person to do something. So, congrats on that, Jay."
