Lazio Making Important Progress in €400M Stadio Flaminio Project

Yahoo18-07-2025
Lazio have reportedly made significant steps on the Stadio Flaminio front, as they continue to untie the remaining bureaucratic knots.
The Background
The Biancocelesti have been sharing the Stadio Olimpico with their arch-rivals Roma for decades, but they now plan to move away from the iconic facility, owned by the state, and possess their own stadium. The club has identified the currently defunct Stadio Flaminio as the ideal ground for their ambitious project.

In December, Lazio president Claudio Lotito presented his stadium renovation plan to the municipality of Rome. But while the project had received high praise from the Mayor, the club still has some issues to resolve.
Lazio Working on Resolving Remaining Stadio Flaminio Issues
According to Il Corriere della Sera (via Calcio e Finanza), the municipality had asked Lazio to provide them with four additional documents in order to make the project eligible for a feasibility study. These documents include studies related to the environment, parking spaces and the traffic in the area surrounding the ground.
Lazio Facing Public Outcry
The source also warns the club of public discontent, as the residents of the area had already protested against the previous project presented by Roma Nuoto for the renovation of Stadio Flaminio, and they could also take legal action against the Serie A club if they were to consider the project a threat to the region's serenity.
How Much Will Stadio Flaminio Cost Lazio
The newspaper adds that Lazio had first estimated the project to cost €400 million, but the overall sum could be reduced to circa €360 million. The Aquile remain in close association with their partners, Legends, who will be entrusted with the renovation and the management of the stadium. The club's directors have recently met the company's hierarchy during their New York City tour.

Agent: Serie A return ‘difficult' for Balotelli

Mario Balotelli's agent Enzo Raiola admits that the striker's return to Serie A is 'difficult' after a negative spell at Genoa: 'We'll consider other options.' Balotelli is available as a free agent after his contract with Genoa expired in June. The Italian striker signed for Il Grifone in October, but only made six appearances under Patrick Vieira. EPA-EFE/SEBASTIEN NOGIER 'Last year, he made a decision from the heart and for his life, choosing to stay in Italy, hoping to find a club. In the end, there was an opportunity, but things didn't go as he hoped,' Raiola told DerbyDerbyDerby. 'Mario has always had many offers from abroad and still does, but at this point, it's difficult for him to return to Serie A, especially after this last experience, which wasn't positive.' I told him last year that he should consider offers from abroad, which were significant. He chose Italy, and I respected his decision. Today, there are no negotiations underway for him in Italy. We'll consider other options, but a final decision is up to him.' Genoa wasn't the only option for Balotelli last year. 'There was a discussion with Torino's ownership to assess the feasibility, but Genoa moved quickly and Mario accepted their offer,' Raiola concluded. Portugal's Joao Felix joins Ronaldo at Al Nassr in Saudi

Portuguese forward Joao Felix has signed a two-year deal with Saudi Arabia's Al Nassr, where he will join Cristiano Ronaldo, the club announced Tuesday. Felix, now 25, made a blockbuster move from Benfica to Atletico Madrid in 2019, but has since seen his fortunes decline. "I'm here to spread joy. Let's win together," said Felix in a video posted on the Riyadh club's X account. A separate post said he had signed until 2027. Felix remains one of the most expensive transfers in history, following his move to Atletico for 127.7 million euros ($147.3 million) six years ago. He has since failed to score more than 10 goals a season, despite stints at Barcelona, AC Milan and Chelsea. According to Arryadia, a Riyadh sports newspaper, Felix will earn $10 million a year. Saudi Arabia has shaken up football by spending heavily on stars from Europe, starting with Ronaldo's arrival in 2023, and the conservative desert nation will host the World Cup in 2034. Many of the signings have been ageing stars, but Felix bucks the trend along with Mateo Retegui, 26, the Serie A top-scorer who joined Al Qadsiah last week. French international Theo Hernandez, 27, left AC Milan for Al Hilal in a reported $29 million deal earlier this month. Top coaches have also been lured to Saudi Arabia, including Italy's Simone Inzaghi who led Al Hilal to an upset win over Manchester City at the Club World Cup. At Al Nassr, Felix will be working under Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus, who was sacked by Al Hilal in May following their defeat in the Asian Champions League semi-finals. ds/th/nf

Ismaël Koné leaves Marseille on loan for Sassuolo

Olympique de Marseille have confirmed the departure of Ismaël Koné (23), who joins US Sassuolo on loan but with an option to make the deal permanent for an undisclosed fee, which has been reported to be around €12.5m. The option reportedly will become permanent if Sassuolo avoid relegation from Serie A this season. The Canadian international joined Marseille from Watford FC on a permanent deal last summer, but struggled to find his feet in La Provence under head coach Roberto De Zerbi. The midfielder was sent out on loan during the winter transfer window, where he joined Stade Rennais. At Rennes, Koné made 13 appearances and even managed to find the net twice (the second of which came against his parent club during a 4-2 defeat to end the season). However, he struggled to pin down a place in the starting lineup and spent most of his loan spell as a late substitute. GFFN | Nick Hartland
