Stay away from social media, drugs, SP warns girl students
Kothacheruvu: District Superintendent of Police V Ratna urged girl students to excel equally in all fields while staying away from the distractions of social media and harmful addictions. She advised students to focus on education and build a bright future without falling prey to temporary attractions or bad influences, at an awareness programme on 'Eagle Clubs' and 'Shakti App' organised at Zilla Parishad Girls High School in Kottacheruvu on Wednesday.
As part of the government's initiative, Shakti Groups and Eagle Clubs have been established at the school. On this occasion, SP Ratna created awareness among the students about critical issues such as child marriages, teenage infatuation, drug abuse, and cannabis consumption. Addictive substances like cannabis lead to crime and destroy lives, she warned.
Students, especially girls, should stay away from platforms like Facebook and Instagram, particularly during their academic years. Girls under the age of 18 should be especially careful and focus on academics without falling for temptations.
She emphasised that love and attraction at a young age can derail students' focus, urging them to prioritise education instead. She informed that in cases of danger or distress, girls and women can contact the Shakti team via WhatsApp at 7993485111. Information about drug usage or sales should be reported to 1972 toll-free helpline.
On International Day Against Drug Abuse, SP Ratna announced that awareness rallies and educational campaigns are being conducted across the district on Thursday. She called on all students to participate in such initiatives to build a crime-free society. She also appreciated students, who pledged to spread awareness about child labor, early marriage, and similar issues within their families and communities. She promised to reward those, who participate actively in awareness activities. She emphasised that each student has a role in building a better future and supporting government efforts to create a safe and aware society.

Jaipur: To curb the rising tide of cybercrimes and provide timely help to victims, Rajasthan police set up Cyber Help Desks in every police station across the state Thursday. The initiative aims to offer immediate and accessible support to individuals affected by online fraud and cyber threats. The new Cyber Help Desks are supported by the launch of two dedicated WhatsApp helpline numbers — 9256001930 and 9257510100. These numbers allow citizens to report cyber incidents and receive assistance. The help desks were launched on the directions of acting DGP Ravi Prakash Meharda. Superintendent of police (Cybercrime), Shantanu Kumar Singh, explained that the Cyber Help Desks are designed to respond to a range of digital issues. Whether it's financial fraud, online harassment, or misuse of personal information on social media, the desks are equipped to take swift action on complaints. Additionally, assistance will be provided in reporting and taking down fake social media accounts on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter).

Jaipur: It was a crypto currency trail that led intelligence agencies to upper division clerk Vikas Yadav in Nau Sena Bhavan, the naval wing of the Defence Ministry. Mr Yadav was addicted to online gaming, sources said. A Pakistani woman identified as 'Priya Sharma' - clearly a fake name - befriended him on Facebook three years ago after seeing his addiction, and persuaded him into spying for Pakistan. Thereafter, she became her handler. After that, he switched to communicating with her on WhatsApp and Telegram. So, how exactly did intelligence operatives find out Mr Yadav, the upper division clerk in the Nau Sena Bhavan, was a spy? The case goes back to another one linked to a spy, Ravi Prakash Meena, a Rajasthan resident who was arrested in 2022. Mr Meena was a Class 4 employee in the Defence Ministry's Sena Bhawan. Investigators found that Mr Meena received money through a cryptocurrency channel in return for providing sensitive information like maps to his Pakistani handler. When intelligence agencies put Mr Meena's cryptocurrency channel under surveillance, they were led to two more people. One of them was Mr Yadav, the clerk in the Nau Sena Bhawan. They found that Mr Yadav had been getting money from the same cryptocurrency channel as Mr Meena. Thereafter, intelligence operatives put Mr Yadav under surveillance for over two years before finally arresting him. A large sum of money was being transferred from this cryptocurrency channel to Mr Yadav, who in turn used the money to feed his online gaming addiction. The intelligence agencies have got four-day custody of Mr Yadav. His mobile phone has been sent to a forensics laboratory. The police suspect that Mr Yadav was scanning sensitive naval documents and sending them to his Pakistani handler, 'Priya Sharma'. The method used by the Pakistani handlers is clear. They looked for clerical staff in the Defence Ministry and either lured them with honeytrap or offered money to give sensitive information. Intelligence agencies also suspect Mr Yadav gave sensitive information during Operation Sindoor.

Nilgiris police intensify measures to clamp down on drugs
In the last year alone, the Nilgiris district police have seized around 25 kg of marijuana, said Nilgiris district Superintendent of Police N.S. Nisha on Thursday. The SP took part in an awareness rally to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Udhagamandalam. Ms. Nisha told reporters the police were continually taking steps to clamp down on the sale of illegal drugs in the district. She said that while around 25 kg of marijuana had been seized and destroyed over the last few years, that the same amount had been seized in 2024-2025 alone. 'In addition to ganja, synthetic drugs like MDMA and methamphetamine have also been seized. For the first time, hydroponically grown ganja has been confiscated. Since synthetic drugs are now increasingly being used by youth, steps are being taken to eliminate them completely,' she said. The police had also increased surveillance at the border checkposts to prevent the smuggling of synthetic drugs from Kerala and Karnataka. 'As a result, border checkpoints like the one at Kakkanallah have been reinforced, and buses, cargo vehicles, and cars are being checked, leading to the seizure of synthetic drugs,' said Ms. Nisha. 'Efforts are being made to control the demand through awareness and the supply through inspections and surveillance. Tourists visiting the district are also warned not to bring banned substances. Awareness banners have been placed at border checkpoints regarding this. Police are conducting daily vehicle inspections and carrying out special checks on weekends. Investigations are being carried out in forest areas near the borders to check for illegal marijuana cultivation,' she added, stating that the public can report information about the movement of drugs through the Drug-free Tamil Nadu mobile app. Students participated in the awareness rally on Thursday. A human chain was also formed from ATC Junction as part of the event.
