WWE RELEASE former world champion alongside 14 other superstars in shock post-WrestleMania cuts
In a dramatic shake-up that has rocked the wrestling world, WWE released 15 of its talents in a sudden and ruthless roster cull - just hours before Friday Night SmackDown.
Among the most shocking names shown the door are former Universal Champion Braun Strowman and former NXT Women's Champion Shayna Baszler, both of whom were once considered cornerstones of the promotion's future.
The news, which broke early Friday morning, sparked an immediate outpouring of frustration and heartbreak from fans online.
Strowman, known for his monstrous strength and booming presence, returned to WWE just two years ago following his initial release in 2021. His resurgence appeared to be gaining steam, but it seems even a former world champion wasn't safe.
Meanwhile, Shayna Baszler, a former MMA star, had recently formed a dominant pairing with Ronda Rousey and was fresh off a stint in the main event scene. Her sudden dismissal has raised eyebrows backstage.
Also gone is Dakota Kai, a key player in the women's division and a member of the Damage CTRL stable. Her release came despite ongoing involvement in storylines and fan enthusiasm for her work.
The tag team scene also took a hit with the release of high-flying duo Kayden Carter and Katana Chance - both of whom had made their main roster debuts not long ago to considerable buzz.
In NXT, the damage was no less brutal. Gigi Dolin, once part of the controversial 'Toxic Attraction' faction, was released alongside high-potential talents like Oro Mensah and Riley Osborne.
Cora Jade, hailed just months ago as a future face of the women's division, was also shown the door - despite being only in her early twenties and previously pegged as a breakout star.
Adding to the shock was the release of veteran manager Paul Ellering, a behind-the-scenes legend who helped guide both the Legion of Doom and the Authors of Pain to tag team stardom.
At 71, Ellering had been semi-retired, but his name still carried immense weight among wrestling purists. Sources close to WWE suggest his departure may be linked more to creative restructuring than financial reasons.
While WWE has not officially commented on the motivation behind the cuts, speculation is rife that the company is clearing the decks in preparation for another round of call-ups from NXT or a shift in creative direction following WrestleMania season.
Others believe it's part of ongoing adjustments tied to cost-cutting under the new TKO ownership, as the company pivots toward international expansion and premium live event profitability.

Mike Tyson posts bizarre AI-produced 'White Mike' portrait - and fans all say he looks like famous fight star
Mike Tyson revealed a bizarre, AI produced portrait dubbed 'White Mike'. The legendary boxer - who made a stunning return to the ring since when he fought Jake Paul in November - took to social media to share the image with his followers. The image showed a man bearing striking resemblance to Tyson - with identical facial details including his Maori face tattoo - but with the obvious difference of his white complexion. Similarly, unlike Tyson, the man in the AI produced image showed the man with blonde hair - which the former heavyweight champion has never had. Accompanying the image, Tyson wrote: 'White Mike? You guys know this isn't right'. Within 14 hours of the image being on social media, the post accumulated nearly 500,000 likes as his 33.5million followers reacted to the bizarre picture. It didn't take long for some of them to point out that the man in the AI produced image looked similar to fight scene legend Brock Lesnar. In a blunt take, one fan wrote: 'It's just Brock Lesnar'. 'If Brock Lesnar and Mike Tyson had a baby', another wrote. Lesnar is the only man to have won the heavyweight championships in WWE, UFC and the NCAA. He also holds the record being the youngest man ever to win the WWE Championship, doing so at the age of 25 years and 44 days. He is also a double Royal Rumble champion, winning the event in 2003 and 2022. Another user even suggested that the AI produced image looked like Lesnar's WWE colleague John Cena. Meanwhile, last month, Tyson was offered a stunning return to the ring against MMA fighter Fedor Emelianenko. The 58-year-old hung up his gloves in 2005 but returned after 19 years to take on Youtuber Jake Paul at the AT&T Stadium in Texas in November. He earned £16million for his efforts but looked like a shadow of his former self as he laboured to a wide unanimous decision loss. Tyson, who has won 50 fights and five major world titles, has been offered the bout by Kazakh combat sports promotion, Alash Pride League (APL), who hope to tempt him with a winter clash against the Russian MMA icon. Speaking in Astana, Kazakhstan this week, APL President, Alimzhan Bektaev, said: 'We are planning a bout between Mike Tyson and Fedor Emelianenko'.
