The Woman Behind the Performances
For most actors, sharing the screen with Shah Rukh Khan is the stuff of dreams. But for National Award-winning actress Priyamani, the journey has been more than just reel—it's been real, heartwarming, and filled with moments that make her look back with a smile. In a candid conversation with Humans of Bombay , Priyamani reminisced about her unique connection with the King of Bollywood—from dance rehearsals to iPad quizzes, and from choreographic cues to warm vanity van dinners. One of Priyamani's most talked-about collaborations with SRK came during the song 1 2 3 4 Get on the Dance Floor from Chennai Express. While fans often say she 'taught him how to dance,' Priyamani modestly clarifies that she only assisted him with a few South Indian-style steps. 'For someone like Shah Rukh to take on such an energetic song in a completely different style was commendable,' she said, adding that the superstar would rehearse tirelessly—often staying back after long shoots from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. just to perfect his moves for the next day.'He didn't need to do that, but he did,' she added with admiration. 'He used to bring in the choreographer's assistants and rehearse post pack-up. That's the kind of dedication he brings to set.'During the shoot of Zinda Banda from Jawan, Priyamani recalls a moment that left her both flattered and flustered. Originally positioned behind SRK in the dance formation, she was surprised when he stopped everything to ask, 'Why are you standing there?' He then gently moved her to the front and told the director Atlee, 'This girl is my teacher—she's going to stand right in front of me.'It wasn't just a sweet gesture, but a moment of mutual respect. 'Of course I was embarrassed, but also incredibly happy,' she confessed. 'He kept looking at me for cues during the steps and made sure I stayed by his side. When Shah Rukh Khan says it, you just can't say no.'It wasn't all work and no play on set. Between takes during Chennai Express, Priyamani and SRK played Kaun Banega Crorepatti on his iPad—a game she unexpectedly won. 'By fluke, I got the right answer, and he handed me a 100-rupee note as a prize,' she laughed. 'I may not have that note anymore, but the memory is priceless.'One evening, as the shoot neared its end, SRK invited her to dine in his iconic vanity van. 'It was like a house—warm, personal, filled with family pictures and tasteful decor. I was just in awe,' she said.Priyamani, who made her debut in 2003 and has since earned critical acclaim across multiple languages, is known for her powerful performances in films like Paruthiveeran, Thirakkatha, and Chaarulatha. In recent years, her Bollywood and OTT appearances—including Jawan, Article 370, and The Family Man—have brought her into the national spotlight once again. But despite her growing stardom, her humility remains intact, as does her admiration for those she shares the screen with. 'I just wish I could collaborate with him more,' she smiled. 'I'll manifest it right here, right now.'

Sreeleela sets sights on pan-India stardom

Sreeleela is on a roll. Having made a name for herself in South Indian cinema, she is now eyeing pan-India stardom. The actress began her career with the Kannada film Kiss. She then went on to star in hits like By Two Love (Kannada), and Dhamaka, Guntur Kaaram, and the National Award-winning Bhagavanth Kesari (Telugu). Now, she has another Telugu film in the pipeline; she's also stepping into Tamil and Hindi cinema, with projects that include a Bollywood film alongside Kartik Aaryan and her Tamil debut, Parasakthi, opposite Sivakarthikeyan. These roles represent exciting new chapters for the actress, especially the latter, where she says audiences will 'get to see a new side of me.' Excerpts: 'AS AN ARTISTE, I LIKE CHANGING GEARS; IT KEEPS ME ON MY TOES' Reflecting on the nuances of working across different film industries, Sreeleela says, 'Every language has its own streak, its own flair. What matters most is understanding what the film demands and what the audience expects. Commercial cinema has its own frequency; Hindi cinema is obviously very different from what I've done. But I like changing gears like that. It keeps me on my toes.' 'ACTING TO ME, IS LIVING THE CHARACTER' She emphasises the importance of authenticity in her acting, and says, 'I feel like the moment we start acting instead of living the character, it's not authentic anymore. Especially in Hindi cinema, the scripts I've heard are a little more real, a little more my age, very close to my character. In the past, I've played many characters that weren't completely like me — I tapped into different roles. But these last couple of films feel like me, like a plain me, like how I would really react. I'm excited to bring my authentic self to every screen no matter what language.' 'I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO PLAYING ROLES THAT FEEL GENUINE' Talking about the kinds of stories that inspire her both on and off screen, Sreeleela says, 'I've always been a sucker for love stories and romcoms. Now I'm in my early 20s, and that's the vibe I'm in. Core emotions like love stay the same; what changes is how they're expressed in cinema. I want to be part of stories that are true to my age and feelings. Today, we are also seeing a rise in female-led films. I love seeing women tap into those strong, inspiring stories, and I hope to portray such roles myself. ' I love entertaining, and being able to do it on a wider canvas only makes me happier Sreeleela

The makers of Aanand L. Rai's 'Raanjhanaa' altered the climax of the film with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) and re-released it in theaters in Tamil Nadu . A huge controversy erupted over this, with the filmmaker speaking against the AI version of the film. Several actors and filmmakers also raised their voices against such practices. And now, joining the bandwagon, actor Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub , who is also a part of the film, has reacted to the altered version. Zeeshan talks about AI version of 'Raanjhanaa' The actor played the role of Dhanush 's character Kundan's friend Murari in the movie. In conversation with Digital Commentary, Zeeshan said that the makers made a wrong decision, and he totally disagrees with their perspective. He added that a storyteller weaves a world of his own for the movie. Ayyub further added that there was pain and satisfaction, both in the movie. He said, "Woh pyaar main jo aakhri mukaam ki baat hoti hai, apni maut main pahunch jaana aur itna pyaara tha ki usse jaane diya. Woh khoobsurti nahi cheenani chaahiye. Aapne film ka saar badal diyaa, cheen liyaa." (He said, "That ultimate stage in love is reaching your own death, and it was so beautiful that I let it go. Zeeshan Ayyub reacts to his AI-altered scene in the climax According to the AI-altered climax, Kundan comes back to life, and with that, Sonam Kapoor , Swara Bhasker , and Zeeshan Ayyub's characters rejoice. Addressing the same, the actor said he was angry after watching that part, as he would never act like the way it has been shown. He said, "Le deke humaari itni to izzat hoti hai ki acting achhi hoti hai; usmein jo mera shot inhone AI se karaya hai, itna zaleela hone waala shot hai voh, mera dil beth gaya. Main kabhi aise aansun puchte hue nahi rounga." (He said, "At least we had the respect that our acting was good, but the shot they made using AI is so humiliating, it broke my heart. I will never cry asking for such tears.") Bollywood Stars Farhan Akhtar & Ritesh Slam AI-Changed 'Raanjhanaa' Ending 'Raanjhanaa' The film was released in theaters in June 2013. The film went on to become a hit at the box office.
