Free streaming service adds iconic 90s horror before remake hits cinemas
If you're a staunch believer that the original is always better than the modern day remake, it might be time to check out this classic 90s horror film before the new version hits cinemas this year.
Time and time again, production studios aim to capitalise on the success of an earlier film by updating its storyline for today's audiences.
But all too often, fans are let down as the new film struggles to find its own voice.
Ahead of this year's release of I Know What You Did Last Summer, starring Madelyn Cline and The Studio star Chase Sui Wonders, you can decide for yourself after Tubi added the original slasher flick to its completely free streaming service.
As part of a new release of titles coming to Tubi in the UK this June, Jim Gillespie's iconic horror film is available to watch.
Released in 1997, it follows four teenage friends who are stalked by a hook-wielding killer after they accidentally ran over a man and dumped his body to conceal their secret.
Starring Scooby-Doo and Buffy the Vampire Slayer star, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and her husband Freddie Prinze Jr., the film has become a beloved staple of the horror genre.
In 2021, Amazon Prime Video created a TV series based on the original film which starred Madison Iseman.
But, in 2022 director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and screenwriter Leah McKendrick successfully pitched an idea for a new installment in the franchise to Sony Pictures.

The new film will be the fourth in the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise and will serve as a direct sequel to the previous 1997 version.
This time around, five friends similarly kill a pedestrian in a car accident and cover up their involvement.
However, after a stalker becomes hell-bent on killing them, they seek help from the survivors of the infamous Southport Massacre of 1997.
Among the other titles coming to Tubi this month are several films from the Resident Evil Franchise, along with Priest (2011) and The Mist.
Based on the popular Japanese video game franchise, Tubi is boasting 'Resident Evil', 'Resident Evil: Apocalypse', 'Resident Evil: Extinction', 'Resident Evil: Afterlife', 'Resident Evil: Retribution' and 'Resident Evil: The Final Chapter' on its platform from June 1. More Trending
Numerous other hits, such as Bad Neighbours, River Wild and Employee of the Month will be coming to the site.
In the sci-fi region, District 9 and Elysium, which stars Matt Damon, will also be available for you to binge.
Tubi is a free streaming service.

Resident Evil 9 could be revealed at Summer Game Fest this week
The next instalment in Capcom's Resident Evil series will debut this week according to sources, with all signs pointing to a 2026 launch. Ahead of Summer Game Fest and the other showcases of this month's not-E3 season, one of the big questions is whether we'll see more on the future of Resident Evil. Capcom confirmed Resident Evil 9 was in development last July, with Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil 7, at the helm. Since then, we've heard nothing official about the next entry, but rumours suggest it will sport an open world and star Leon S. Kennedy. Almost a year later, several insiders have claimed Capcom is preparing for a big reveal at Summer Game Fest on Friday, June 6. The rumour first appeared via YouTuber ScreenFire Germany last month, where they claimed the first trailer for Resident Evil 9 will be shown at the event, albeit with the caveat that the information is 'without guarantee' and could 'change'. The source, who was the first to claim remakes of Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica are in development, also states that Resident Evil 9 is planned for the first quarter of 2026 – although it will likely come after March, according Capcom's recent financial projections. Resident Evil celebrates its 30th anniversary next year, on March 22, so it's very possible the ninth entry could land somewhere around this date. Following these claims, fellow Resident Evil insider AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem has now stated they are '95% positive' that Resident Evil 9 will show up at Summer Game Fest. (1/3) Again, not like I can give 100% confirmation, no one's directly told me or the like. But at this point I'm like 95% positive we're on the verge of RE9 being revealed at SGF. This is the first time behind the scenes there's a lot of buzz in the grapevine, lots of rumblings — AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem (@AestheticGamer1) June 2, 2025 In a post on X, Dusk Golem wrote: 'Again, not like I can give 100% confirmation, no one's directly told me or the like. But at this point I'm like 95% positive we're on the verge of Resident Evil 9 being revealed at Summer Game Fest. 'This is the first time behind the scenes there's a lot of buzz in the grapevine, lots of rumblings and the sorta activity behind the scenes that usually are signs we're about to get a Resident Evil game announced.' While they don't go into specifics on these 'rumblings', Capcom recently appeared to tease Resident Evil 9 in a video promoting Resident Evil 4 remake. More Trending The past two mainline Resident Evil games, Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village, were both announced during Sony events in 2016 and 2020, respectively. Sony hasn't announced a State Of Play presentation for this month, but one is rumoured. However, Capcom is a confirmed partner at Summer Game Fest, so it's possible Resident Evil 9 could show up at the latter instead. It's also true that publishers often change their mind about their reveals at the last minute and it may well be the case that Capcom hasn't 100% settled on an unveiling this month. Beyond the ninth entry, Capcom is also rumoured to be working on several Resident Evil remakes, with the next one expected to be Resident Evil Zero. Chilling horror starring iconic British actor soars up Amazon Prime chart
A 2024 horror movie that produced an unexpected career turn for a famous British actor is proving a hit with Amazon Prime Video viewers. Heretic, which starred Hugh Grant as the eccentric and creepy Mr. Reed, was released in November last year to widespread critical acclaim. The film follows the story of two Mormon missionaries who visit Mr. Reed's home after he expresses interest in joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The two missionaries – Sister Barnes (Sophie Thatcher) and Sister Paxton (Chloe East) – immediately realise they're in a situation that's more than they bargained for. While Heretic only made back $60million (£44m) at the global box office, that was still roughly six times larger than the budget it was made with – $10m (£7m). And critics were fans too, with Heretic currently boasting a Rotten Tomatoes critic rating of 91%, a critic score of 7.3 out of 10, and an audience rating of 76%. The film was recently added to the massive libraries of horrors on Amazon Prime Video, and viewers are already sending it soaring up the trending charts. @Matthieson4426 celebrated the turn from Hugh Grant: 'Heretic. Hugh Grant is absolutely brilliant. Manages to make an unarmed middle aged man in a brown jumper epically scary. A great watch.' Elsewhere, @MandoDameron was excited that 'Heretic is on Amazon Prime at last!' with a series of emojis implying they were running to watch it. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video @MontyIsBlessed also couldn't get enough: 'Theologically thrilling and brilliant — I never imagined a movie and theology could bang this hard.' @PaulDuncan67 said: 'Hugh Grant gets better every time I watch him. Heretic is totally absorbing… It takes real talent to demand your attention with minimal players.' @Luluhit said: 'I had no idea this film was so impressive, packed with exquisite dialogue. It's like I've been in a classroom… They come back and tell you the truth right in your face.' On Reddit, SomeGreatGoodThing joked: 'I honestly can't imagine something more horrifying than being trapped in a room with a man telling me his opinions on religion, so this movie really worked for me.' As well as starring Hugh Grant, Sophie Thatcher, and Chloe East, Heretic also features That 70s Show actor Topher Grace as Elder Kennedy, who makes a brief appearance in the film. More Trending For Metro, film critic Tori Brazier described Heretic as a 'horror reinvention' and said Hugh's career is now 'less and less defined by his bumbling rom-com persona from the 90s'. She also described it as an 'intriguing prospect with its approach to debate and engaging Mr Reed in a confined cat-and-mouse chase with two Mormon missionaries'. Heretic was co-written and co-directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, the horror film super team who were also behind the 2018 apocalypse movie A Quiet Place. Watch Heretic on Amazon Prime Video now.
