Blumhouse Productions has set its sights on another horror video game to adapt to the big screen, developing a feature based on 'Phasmophobia,' the first-person paranormal puzzle title that became a viral sensation during the coronavirus pandemic.
The film adaptation will be produced by Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, in association with Kinetic Games Limited.
First released in early access in 2020, 'Phasmophobia' became a social media fixation as Twitch streamers and YouTubers quickly took to the multiplayer ghost-hunting video game.
Developed and released by Kinetic Games Limited, the title was a breakthrough hit for the indie banner, becoming the best-selling video game on Steam for several weeks through the final months of that year. It has been ported to several consoles and has sold more than 23 million copies globally in the time since.
'Phasmophobia' was also a critical darling, taking the prize in the category of best debut game at the 2020 Game Awards.
The project was unveiled at the first-ever 'Business of Fear' event in Hollywood on Tuesday, which featured Blumhouse CEO Jason Blum and president Abhijay Prakash as speakers.
It comes as Blumhouse's latest video game adaptation, following their 2023 title 'Five Nights at Freddy's' — another film based on a streamer-popularized horror game. That Universal release grossed $291 million worldwide — an especially impressive figure, considering it had a simultaneous streaming debut on Peacock in North America.
A sequel, 'Five Nights at Freddy's 2,' will be released in theaters on December 5. Blumhouse also sports a game division, with upcoming titles including 'Eyes of Hellfire' and 'Sleep Awake.'

According to sources with knowledge of the project, Sorkin has met with both Madison and White about the project despite no offers having been made yet. "The Naked Gun" Hits Egyptian Cinemas

Yara Sameh The latest installment to a time-honored franchise, " The Naked Gun " — directed this time around by Akiva Schaffer and produced by comedic-genius Seth McFarlane — with Liam Neeson assuming the iconic role of bumbling detective Frank Drebin, originally made famous by Leslie Nielsen. The film is set to release in theatres across Egypt on July 30th, courtesy of Fourstar Films. Neeson is joined by an all-star cast the illustrious Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, CCH Pounder, Kevin Durand, Cody Rhodes, Liza Koshy, Eddie Yu, and Danny Huston. Seth MacFarlane is also joining forces with Erica Huggins, producing under MacFarlane's Fuzzy Door banner, known for comedic staples such as "Family Guy" and "The Cleveland Show". The logline for the film reads: "Only one man has the particular set of skills to lead Police Squad and save the world! In a bid to solve a murder case, Lt. Frank Drebin Jr. follows in his bumbling father's footsteps into the unknown,". A fresh take on the classic slapstick series, "The Naked Gun" promises to deliver the same absurd humor and over-the-top antics that made the original films cult favorites. The casting of Neeson — known for his dramatic roles but with a proven comedic flair — suggests an exciting new direction for the franchise. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results
