Samsung is handing out free Galaxy S25 mobiles - but rare deal ends tonight
Samsung is offering the standard S25 for free to anyone who pre-orders one of its newest TVs with a rare discount code
A new deal gives Samsung shoppers an S25 mobile for free - here's how
For those in the market for a new Samsung Galaxy mobile, there are currently plenty of deals to pick from. Unlike its competitor Apple, which seldom dishes out freebies, Samsung is offering the chance to get a new Galaxy S25 device for free.
Samsung is gifting the standard S25 for free to anyone who pre-orders one of its latest televisions. By using the code SPRING at the online checkout, customers can get the £799 S25 mobile for £0.
The caveat is that customers must pre-order a new television to receive the complimentary S25, with prices starting at over £1,000. Although the price tag can climb as high as £4,999 for a 2025 65-inch Neo QLED model, there are still some smaller devices available, such as the 55" Neo QLED QN85F 4K Vision AI Smart TV priced at £1,499.
Subtracting the £799 cost of the S25 effectively reduces the price of the 55-inch Neo QLED model to a mere £700. This deal is perfect for any shoppers looking to spruce up their living room with a new telly and a snazzy phone.
However, there are a few crucial points to bear in mind. Firstly, the offer is time-sensitive and will expire in just a few hours, precisely at 11:59 tonight, Tuesday, May 27, reports the Mirror.

Secondly, stock levels are dwindling. The more affordable TVs, including the QN80F 4K and QN93F 4K, are already sold out, and it remains uncertain whether these screen sizes will be restocked once the free S25 deal concludes.
Samsung certainly leads the way when it comes to complimentary offerings. Over the past week, the tech giant has been dishing out a slew of freebies to its customers, including a double storage offer on its latest S25 Edge mobile.
Those loyal to Apple will need to turn to third-party retailers for more competitive deals, such as EE's significantly cheaper AirPods Pro 2 price compared to the official Apple store. For telly enthusiasts who can't quite stretch their budget to over £1000 for a new set, there are other bargains to be had, albeit not on flagship 2025 models.
Argos is currently running a discount code sale, offering shoppers 10% off a 4K 55-inch TCL model, or a 4K UHD HDR Samsung TV for under £200.

For those curious about the difference between a standard OLED or UHD 4K TV and a QLED 4K TV, it boils down to brightness and colour, with the latter boasting vibrant hues. They're also reputed to deliver swift speeds for fast-paced content.
However, it's worth noting a few potential downsides. For instance, colours on a NEO QLED may appear washed out if viewed from an angle rather than head-on, and there could be issues with motion blur.

Apple's loses bid to halt court ruling that blocks some fees from its iPhone app store

A three-judge appeals panel rejected Apple 's request to pause an April 30 order banning the company from charging a fee on in-app iPhone transactions processed outside its once-exclusive payment system in a two-page decision issued late Thursday. The setback threatens to divert billions of dollars in revenue away from Apple while it tried to overturn the order reining in its commissions from e-commerce within iPhone apps. Apple sought to put the order on hold after it was issued by U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez-Rogers in a stinging rebuke that also held the Cupertino, California, company in civil contempt of court and recommended opening a criminal investigation into whether one of its executives had committed perjury while testifying in her Oakland, California, courtroom. It marked another twist of the screw in a legal battle initiated nearly five years ago by video game maker Epic Games, which alleged Apple had turned the iPhone's app store had been turned into a price-gouging monopoly. The antitrust case focused largely on the 15% to 30% commissions that Apple rakes in from a portion of the commerce conducted within iPhone apps under a system that prohibited app makers from offering alternative payment methods. Apple is still seeking to overturn Gonzalez-Rogers' ruling in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, but her order blocking Apple's commissions on some in-app commerce will remain in effect while potentially leaving a dent in its profits. 'The long national nightmare of the Apple tax is ended,' Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney wrote in a post after the appeals court denied Apple's request. Apple didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. Although Gonzalez-Rogers mostly sided with Apple in her initial 2021 ruling in the case, she ordered the company to begin allowing apps to include links to alternative payment systems — a decision that withstood appeals that went all the way to the Supreme Court in 2024. Apple then complied by requiring commissions of 12% to 27%, provoking Epic to ask Gonzalez-Rogers to hold Apple in contempt of her order. After holding a new round of hearings that unfolded over a nine-month period straddling last year and this year, Gonzalez-Rogers brought down another legal hammer on Apple.

YouTube has stopped working on 5 popular phones - so, is your device on the list?

It's the go-to video app for millions of people around the world. But if you use YouTube, you might want to check that the app is still running on your smartphone. The Google-owned app has quietly updated its iOS app to version 20.22.1, and now requires iOS 16 or later to install and run. That means several older iPhone models are no longer compatible with the app. The affected devices are those that cannot upgrade beyond iOS 15. So that's the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and the first-generation iPhone SE. Alternatively, if you have an iPod Touch 7, you won't be able to watch YouTube on that either. The news has not gone down well across social media, with one user venting: 'My iphone 6s is slowly becoming obselete.' It's the go-to video app for millions of people around the world. But if you use YouTube , you might want to check that the app is still running on your smartphone YouTube quietly made the change in version 20.22.1, which was released on 2 June. On the App Store, YouTube describes this version as having 'bug fixes, performance improvements, and more cat videos.' However, in the fine print, it also now states that it requires iOS 16.0 or later to run on iPhone, as well as iPad 16.0 or later to run on iPad. Unfortunately, that means the app has been discontinued for the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4. Several disgruntled users have taken to X to discuss the news. 'WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PLANET I HAVE AN IPHONE 6S,' one user asked. Another wrote: 'This is strange because the YouTube app is just streaming video from a server, and many devices with much less power can still do that fine.' And one joked: 'What a long ride its been, iPhone 6S,' alongside the saluting emoji. However, others were quick to point out a sneaky loophole - watching YouTube on Safari, rather than through the app. 'When stuck you could always just use YouTube on safari like god intended,' one user suggested. Another added: 'I've never used the app. Always from browser.' To make sure you can still use YouTube on your phone, it is essential that you update to at least iOS 16 or higher - even if you are using a newer, compatible device. To check which operating system you are currently using, simply open the Settings app, select General, and tap on the 'About' tab. Under the heading 'Version' you will be able to see the currently installed iteration of iOS. If you do need to update your iPhone, from Settings navigate to the tab labelled 'General' and select 'Software Update'. If a newer version of iOS is available, you can press 'Install Now' to begin the update. To ensure you always get the latest software and security updates, you can also consider activating automatic updates by selecting 'Automatic Updates' on the 'Software Update' page.
