Check out these highlights of new Broncos TE Caleb Lohner
The Denver Broncos used their final pick (241st overall) in the 2025 NFL draft to select University of Utah tight end Caleb Lohner last Saturday.
Lohner (6-7, 256 pounds) became a two-sport athlete at Utah in 2025, when he played basketball and football for the Utes. In college, Lohner played at three Big 12 schools for basketball: the BYU Cougars, Baylor Bears and Utah. Lohner came mostly off the bench in basketball, but played his only year of football in 2024.
In 2024, Lohner only caught four passes for 56 yards... and four touchdowns. You read that right, all four of Lohner's catches went for touchdowns. Perhaps the Broncos were impressed by his size. Coach Sean Payton believes he may become a new receiving threat for quarterback Bo Nix.
Although Denver's recent draft history at tight end has not gone according to plan (Greg Dulcich in the 2022 NFL draft following Albert Okwuegbunam in the 2020 NFL draft), the team is hoping it can develop Lohner into an NFL-caliber tight end. As a seventh-round pick, he's a low-risk, high-upside prospect.
There is a precedent for tight ends who previously played basketball, including 2025 Hall of Fame inductee Antonio Gates. Hopefully the Broncos will see some great play out of the former basketball player.

PFF sees Elgton Jenkins as top-10 NFL center entering 2025 A ranking of the top 32 centers in the NFL from Pro Football Focus helps highlight the potential of improvement for the Green Bay Packers by moving Elgton Jenkins from center to guard in 2025. Josh Myers, a multi-year starter for the Packers at center who departed for the New York Jets in free agency, isn't even ranked in the top 32 centers. Jenkins, meanwhile, is already viewed as a top-10 player at the position: PFF ranked Jenkins at No. 9. From Mason Cameron of PFF: "After playing primarily at guard throughout his NFL career, Jenkins will make the jump to center in 2025. He has logged just 378 snaps at center in his pro career but has experience there from college, giving hope that his overall ability will translate. Jenkins' 81.6 PFF pass-blocking grade over the past two seasons ranks second among guards." The Packers signed left guard Aaron Banks in free agency, so Jenkins -- a Pro Bowler at guard in the past -- is moving to center, a position he's played at the pro level and extensively at Mississippi State. Where does Banks rank among guards? PFF positioned him at No. 32 at the position entering 2025. Not among the best, but in the top half of starters. The Packers are hoping Jenkins provides a big upgrade at center while Banks keeps the level of play steady at left guard -- raising the ceiling of the entire offensive line. While tough and smart, Myers lacked consistency down to down and was often a liability in the run game. The Packers never considered a re-signing and let him leave after his rookie deal expired this spring. Lacking interest on the open market, Myers signed a one-year deal with the Jets and isn't expected to be a starter. He'll be a backup behind Joe Tippmann, a second-round pick in the 2023 draft out of Wisconsin. Creed Humphrey, a multi-year All-Pro whom the Packers bypassed to take Myers in 2021, retained the top spot of the center rankings. Although Frank Ragnow of the Detroit Lions is retiring, two other centers in the NFC North ranked above Jenkins: Drew Dalman of the Chicago Bears at No. 5, and Ryan Kelly of the Minnesota Vikings at No. 8 -- two offseason signings.

Eagles' Saquon Barkley hints NFL retirement will be sudden and come 'out of nowhere'
After eclipsing the 2,000-yard rushing mark during the 2024 regular season, Saquon Barkley was named the cover athlete for "Madden NFL 26." Barkley signed with the Philadelphia Eagles last offseason. His historic first year in Philly earned him Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors. By all accounts, the 28-year-old will enter the 2025 season in the prime of his career. However, the star running back recently hinted that when he does eventually step away from the game, it could be sudden. During a recent appearance on former NFL player Chris Long's "Green Light Podcast," Barkley was asked if he would step away while he was still at the peak of his career or if he would stick around. "I'll probably [be] one of those guys that it would be out of nowhere," Barkley responded in reference to his eventual retirement. "I'll probably just wake up one day, whether it's next year or two years or four years and just be like, 'Yeah, it's over.' I don't think I will ever lose that passion." Barkley then cited Pro Football Hall of Famer Barry Sanders' shocking decision to walk away from the NFL in 1998. "The competitive nature is always going to be there. I like, probably my favorite player of all time is Barry Sanders, so probably similar to that. Maybe one day, like it'll be out of nowhere, I'll probably be ballin', and just be like, 'Yeah, call it quits.'" Sanders racked up 15,269 career rushing yards before he abruptly retired. He needed less than 1,500 yards to catch up to Walter Payton's then all-time rushing record. Dallas Cowboys great Emmitt Smith currently sits atop the league's all-time list. The Eagles rewarded Barkley's productive 2024 campaign with a lucrative two-year contract extension. Barkley entered the 2025 campaign with 7,216 career rushing yards and was a key part of the Eagles' run to the Super Bowl LIX title. Barkley is credited with seven NFL seasons, while Sanders played a total of 10 years in the league.
