Oklahoma Sooners predicted to land 2026 four-star defensive end

USA Today27-01-2025
The Oklahoma Sooners hosted a number of prospects from the 2026 recruiting class over the weekend for Junior Day and are already reaping the rewards of their efforts.
One of the prospects Oklahoma welcomed to Norman was four-star defensive end Kevin Ford Jr. On Monday, Sam Spiegelman of Rivals issued a FutureCast favoring the Sooners in his recruitment. Ford is considered the No. 11 defensive end in the cycle, according to 247Sports, and is a top 125 player in the class.
Out of Duncanville High School, Ford is a disruptive defensive end prospect. He's got a quick get-off at the snap that he uses to knife through the line of scrimmage or get around offensive tackles. Ford shows good play strength, displaying the ability to knock back offensive linemen with his initial strike. He sets the edge well in the run game and shows good discipline in his responsibilities. His speed and athleticism make him a natural pass rusher, but he has the strength to be a force against the run. Ford has a strong motor and is willing to chase down plays from the backside or after the quarterback steps up to avoid his initial rush.
He would be a great addition to the Oklahoma Sooners defensive front. In addition to his Oklahoma offer, he's being pursued by a number of Power Four programs, including Alabama, Texas, Texas A&M, Miami, Florida, Florida State, Tennessee, and Ole Miss.

Former Spartans DB has interception touchdown in NFL preseason game

A former Spartan made a highlight reel play for a touchdown on Friday night in a NFL preseason game. Former Michigan State defensive back Kendell Brooks intercepted a pass and returned it 53 yards for a touchdown in a preseason game between the Tennessee Titans and Atlanta Falcons on Friday night. Brooks made an incredible jump on a pass to catch it running the other way for a touchdown for the Titans. Check out the highlight reel play by Brooks below: Brooks is entering his third season in the NFL, and his second with the Titans. He was originally undrafted and signed by the Arizona Cardinals in 2023. This past season he was signed by the Titans to their practice squad. Brooks played in 24 career games for the Spartans from 2021 to 2022. He collected 105 tackles, four passes defensed, 3.5 tackles for loss and three forced fumbles. Indiana Fever star takes humorous jab at Caitlin Clark villain

At a Monday afternoon fan event during the Indiana Fever's off-day, shooting guard Sophie Cunningham took a jab at one of Caitlin Clark's newest WNBA foes by signing a Jacy Sheldon trading card with a rather humorous message written across a fan's collectible. Sheldon, who was selected No. 5 overall in the 2024 WNBA draft by the Dallas Wings following five seasons at Ohio State, has quickly established a very negative opinion from both Hawkeyes and Fever fans after her June 17 Flagrant 1 foul on Clark and her eventually uncalled knee to the right groin area during their July 15 clash in Boston as a member of the Connecticut Sun. During the event, a fan requested and was granted by Cunningham for the sixth-year sharpshooter to sign a Jacy Sheldon rookie card with the phrase "PROPERTY OF: SOPHIE CUNNINGHAM" on the face of the card. With teammate Lexie Hull sitting beside Cunningham, both laughed at the reference by the fan as the team has had a number of eventful meetings with Sheldon so far this season. The infamous late-game escalation of the June 17 matchup by Cunningham instantly made her a fan-favorite amongst the Fever faithful when she aggressively fouled Sheldon in retribution for the earlier incident against Clark. While there are multiple speculative reasons for Clark's subsequent right groin injury suffered in the July 15 meeting, the unpenalized knee to the now-injured area by Sheldon appears to be a go-to factor for fans upset with the blatantly ignored physicality against the franchise cornerstone. With Clark's non-participation in Monday's team practice, she will miss her 11th straight game on Tuesday as the star guard reoveres the very same right groin injury. This now increases her total absences in the 2025 season to 20 regular season games and 21 contests overall, including the WNBA Commissioner's Cup final. Ironically, the Fever will soon be facing Sheldon against as the since-traded guard is now a part of the Washington Mystics roster, whom will be in Indianapolis on Friday.
