BMRCL facilitates Bengalurus first ever organ transportation by metro
Bengaluru, Aug 2 (PTI) For the first time since its inception, Namma Metro facilitated the transportation of a donated human liver for transplant, the BMRCL said on Saturday.
On August 1, at about 8.38 pm, the liver was securely transferred via ambulance from Vydehi Hospital to Whitefield Metro Station, accompanied by a doctor and seven medical staff, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) said in a release.
Upon arrival, the team was received by an Assistant Security Officer (ASO) and Metro personnel, who coordinated the documentation and necessary security checks, it added.
The liver was then transported on a train that departed Whitefield metro station at 8.42 pm and arrived at Rajarajeshwarinagar Metro Station at 9.48 pm.
Another ASO and Metro staff received the medical team and ensured a seamless transfer to a waiting ambulance. The organ was safely delivered to Sparsh Hospital in time for the critical transplant, the release said.
The operation followed the guidelines of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and Joint Procedure Order (JPO) of the BMRCL.
According to the release, this is the second time in the country that a metro train is being used for organ transportation.
On January 18, Hyderabad Metro Rail created a dedicated 'green channel", between Kamineni Hospitals in LB Nagar and Gleneagles Global Hospital in Lakdikapul, to facilitate the swift transportation of a donor heart. PTI JR KH

HealthCare Global Q1 profit dips 58 pc
Agency: PTI Last Updated: New Delhi, Aug 4 (PTI) HealthCare Global Enterprises on Monday said its consolidated profit after tax declined 58 per cent year-on-year to Rs 5 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2025. Practo turns profitable in FY25, looks to expand global footprint
Last Updated: New Delhi, Aug 4 (PTI) Health-tech platform Practo turned profitable in 2024-25, posting an operating profit of Rs 15 crore, and looks to focus on global expansion and AI-led healthcare in the coming years, according to its FY25 Annual Letter. Practo has reported six consecutive quarters of profit, which signals the scalability and sustainability of digital healthcare at scale, as per the letter. The company, which plans to come out with its IPO soon, reported operating EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation) of Rs 15 crore for 2024-25. Its revenue stood at Rs 234 crore last fiscal while the Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) was Rs 3,500 crore along with positive cash flows, according to the letter. 'Overall contribution margin improved from 40 per cent in FY24 to 46 per cent in FY25, reflecting its deep focus on operational efficiency and high-margin services," it stated. As the firm enters the next phase of growth, it will focus on three strategic pillars – better outcomes through AI, scaling impact globally and sustained profitability with growth in the current fiscal, Practo CEO & Co-founder Shashank ND stated. 'The company is also looking to explore organic and inorganic growth opportunities," Shashank said. On its performance in FY 2024-25, the Bengaluru-based firm said that more than 50 million patients were served globally, making the platform one of the world's largest digital health platforms. More than 5 lakh verified doctors onboarded, enabling transparent, informed care decisions, it stated. In May 2025, Practo launched consumer-facing healthcare services in the UAE, with over 50,000 monthly users, 31,000 listed doctors, and 3,000 clinics on the platform. Delhi plans to launch over 100 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs by September
Last Updated: New Delhi, Aug 4 (PTI) The Delhi government has plans to establish over 100 Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (UAAMs) between August and September 2025, officials said on Monday. According to officials, a total of 108 sites have been identified as feasible for setting up these clinics across various civic agencies. 'Of these, 53 sites fall under the Public Works Department (PWD), 38 under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), eight under the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), and nine are located on properties managed by the Directorate of Education (DoE)," a government document said. Several existing Aam Aadmi Mohalla Clinics (AAMCs) will be repurposed into UAAMs, and renovation work, including painting, plastering, waterproofing, tile work and installation of false ceilings, is underway by PWD. 'Tenders have already been floated for repair and maintenance works. Besides upgrading current facilities, new clinics will also be constructed to meet the expansion targets," government officials said However, in some places, the project is facing delays due to pending No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from various agencies. As per the government document, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has approved only 11 out of 109 proposed sites, while all 39 sites proposed under the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) are still under review. Additional approvals from MCD are also awaited for more than 400 sites identified earlier this year. The expansion aligns with a health agreement signed in April 2025 between the Delhi Department of Health and Family Welfare and the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, enabling the rollout of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in the capital. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has said that Rs 1,749 crore has been allocated for the establishment of 1,139 Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandirs. The government estimates that the initiative will benefit approximately 36 lakh residents across Delhi by providing basic healthcare services and diagnostic facilities.
