Union Minister Piyush Goyal discusses multilateral trade concerns with WTO trade ministers

Paris [France], June 4 (ANI): Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Wednesday participated in the WTO Trade Ministers gathering in Paris, France, at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Ministerial Council Meeting.The minister discussed concerns regarding the WTO (World Trade Organisation) and multilateral trade.'Participated in the WTO Trade Ministers gathering on the margins of the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting in Paris.Had a very good discussion on several issues concerning WTO and multilateral trade,' Union Minister tweeted on social media 'X'.On Tuesday, speaking to ANI, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director General of the World Trade Organisation, said, 'We need India as a leader 'in the 14th WTO Ministerial Conference (MC14), which will take place in Yaounde, Cameroon, from March 26 to 29, 2026.'India is a leading country, and India is doing well. So India needs to open the way for other developing countries. For example, on investment facilitation for development. We want India to support because so many developing countries, 90 out of the 126 who are members, would like to move with this. But for agriculture, we also need to listen to what India's issues are and try to be as supportive as we possibly can,' the WTO DG addedThe WTO DG also raised issues of repositioning and possible reforms to the trade body. 'Goods trade is still taking place on WTO terms, MFN terms, and members want to safeguard that, but there are things that also don't work. And when you have this kind of disruption, you ask yourself, what is it that needs to be reformed about the WTO?' said DG WTOShe added, 'What is it that developing countries like India don't like? Let them put that on the table. What is it that the US doesn't like? Put that on the table. What do Africans not like about the way the organisation? Put that on the table. Let's collect these and then let's try to reform it because most members think that it is a very valuable organisation, but it should be repositioned'.
Additionally, the minister also met Brazil's Foreign Minister, Mauro Vieira. Both ministers discussed the trade between the two countries and explored options to deepen the economic partnership. (ANI)

The Monsoon Session of the Delhi Assembly, beginning on Monday (August 4, 2025), will be powered entirely by renewable energy following the inauguration of a 500-kilowatt rooftop solar power plant by Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal on Sunday (August 3, 2025). Highlighting the historic significance of the Assembly building, constructed in 1912 and once home to the country's first Parliament, Mr. Gupta said it is 'an example of how tradition and progress can go together'. He said that the rooftop solar project is expected to yield savings of up to ₹15 lakh per month, or approximately ₹1.75 crore annually, with potential surplus electricity generation through net metering. 'The financial savings generated through solar energy will be reinvested in developmental work for the welfare of Delhi's people,' the Speaker said. The Monsoon Session's opening day will also see the tabling of two reports from the Comptroller and Auditor General of India: State Finances for the year 2023-24, and Welfare of Building and Other Construction Workers for the year ending March 2023. In a key development in education policy, Minister of Education Ashish Sood is set to introduce the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Bill, 2025, which aims to regulate fee hikes in private schools across the Capital. A trial run of the new e-Vidhan (paperless) system is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Monday, with the official sitting of the House at 2:00 p.m. to be conducted entirely on solar power, without using electricity from conventional sources.

After receiving safety clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety to open the new line connecting Electronics City, BMRCL approached the state govt. In 2023, ahead of the Karnataka assembly elections, Modi inaugurated the extended Purple Line from KR Pura to Whitefield. Later, three Namma Metro projects — two Purple Line stretches, the Green Line extension towards Tumakuru, and the Ragigudda–Silk Board double-decker flyover—were opened without fanfare. Although the Centre sanctioned Orange Line in 2024, the state govt's plan for a double-decker flyover delayed tendering. BMRCL is expected to float tenders by year-end. The agency is finalising the design plan, while environmental and social impact consultations are in progress, with reports likely to be published between Oct and Nov.

‘Punjab has sent no proposal for solar parks under central scheme in last 5 yrs'
Bathinda: Even as 18 solar parks were developed in several states under the central scheme of 'development of solar parks and ultra-mega solar power projects', the Punjab govt did not send any proposal for the development of a solar park under the scheme in the last five years. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now This was revealed by Union minister of state for new and renewable energy and power, Shripad Yesso Naik, in a written reply in Lok Sabha on Wednesday in response to a question by Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal. The development of solar parks and ultra-mega solar power projects aims to accelerate large-scale solar power generation by facilitating the development of solar parks and ultra-mega solar power projects. These parks provide a platform for developers to set up solar projects with shared infrastructure, including land, transmission lines, and other necessary facilities, reducing costs and speeding up project completion. The country in the past increased maximum renewable energy under solar energy to achieve its target of 450 GW renewable energy by 2030 as per its nationally determined contributions (NDC) under the Paris Agreement. After the scheme was launched in Dec 2014 to accelerate large-scale solar power generation and support the country's renewable energy goals, 50 solar parks with a total capacity of 37,990 MW were sanctioned across 12 states, while 18 with 10,856 MW were developed. As per the minister, 18 projects were developed in nine states with a capacity of 10,856 MW, with a maximum of four projects each in MP and Rajasthan. Under the project, central financial assistance (CFA) of Rs 3,661.93 crore was released to various states in the last five years under the 'development of solar parks and ultra-mega solar power projects', with a maximum of Rs 1,116.4 crore to Gujarat, even as only one solar park with 700 MW was developed there.
