Gujarat's milk procurement hits 250 lakh litres per day, fivefold jump since 2001: Amit Shah

Time of India2 days ago
Milk procurement in Gujarat has increased five times to 250 lakh litres per day in 2024-25 from 50 lakh litres daily in 2001-02, Cooperation Minister Amit Shah said on Tuesday.
In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, the minister said there has also been a significant improvement in dairy farmers' incomes and a reduction in post-harvest losses.
That apart, the milk prices paid to the farmers have increased by 140 per cent in the last 15 years (from Rs 400/kg fat to Rs 950/kg fat average milk procurement prices), he said and added that this has helped significantly to enhance the chilling capacity and milk procurement capacity of milk unions.
According to the minister, the implementation of several measures has contributed to increasing milk procurement in Gujarat.
Schemes such as the
National Programme for Dairy Development
(NPDD), Dairy Processing and Infrastructure Development Fund (DIDF), and Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF) have provided assistance for infrastructure modernisation, value-addition facilities, breed improvement, fodder development, and capacity-building, he said.
Live Events
In the last seven years, under NPDD, Gujarat has received a total grant of Rs 315 crore with a total project outlay of Rs 515 crore, resulting in installation of 2,052 bulk milk coolers, 4,309 automatic milk collection systems, and 1,000 milk adulteration detection machines.
Projects under DIDF and AHIDF include processing plant expansion, UHT lines, and milk powder facilities.
As per the National Cooperative Database (NCD) portal, there are 15,740 functional Dairy Cooperative Societies in Gujarat.
Gujarat has a well-developed dairy cooperative network, led by the
Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd.
(GCMMF) (Amul), comprising 18 district unions and over 36 lakh members.
Presently, Amul procures around 250 lakh litres of milk per day from Gujarat through its cooperative network, making Gujarat one of the leading milk-producing states in the country.

Arunachal pollution control board holds public hearing for 1,200 MW Kalai-II hydroelectric project

1 2 3 4 Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (APSPCB) on Wednesday conducted a public hearing for environmental clearance to the proposed 1,200MW Kalai-II hydroelectric project in Anjaw district, being developed by THDC India Limited. The hearing, chaired by Anjaw DC Millo Kojin, saw the participation of women and child development minister Dasanglu Pul, THDC officials and over 350 project-affected persons (PAFs) from 33 villages. Pul, recalling that her late husband and former CM Kalikho Pul had initiated survey work for Kalai-I and II in 2009, said she was glad to see his vision nearing reality. Urging locals to back the project, she cited Uttarakhand's Tehri dam as an example of the benefits of large hydropower infrastructure. She also assured that 50% of the project's employment opportunities would be reserved for land-affected families, besides boosting self-employment and entrepreneurship in the region. With an investment of nearly Rs 14,000 crore, Kalai-II is expected to generate free power worth Rs 318 crore annually after commissioning, while contributing Rs 2.2 crore every year to the Local Area Development Fund. Officials said the project, one of 13 stalled hydro schemes revived last year through MoAs signed with four central PSUs, will create around 1,700 direct jobs and spur development through roads, healthcare, education and allied services. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like New Container Houses Indonesia (Prices May Surprise You) Container House | Search ads Search Now Undo During the hearing, APSPCB officials explained the clearance process, while THDC and its consultant WAPCOS Ltd presented details of the project's environmental impacts and proposed mitigation measures. Summing up, DC Kojin assured villagers that their suggestions would be reflected in the minutes and proposed exposure visits for two representatives from each affected village to Uttarakhand's Tehri dam. THDC officials assured that the company would address genuine concerns in line with rules and guidelines. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Haryana identifies 91 bank branches with ‘mule accounts': 26 of them in Gurgaon, 24 in Nuh

Chandigarh: Haryana Police have identified 91 bank branches across the state where suspected "mule accounts" are being operated by cybercriminals for large-scale fraudulent transactions. Of these, 26 branches are in Gurgaon and 24 in Nuh district. Special teams of the cybercrime wing are conducting examinations of the records to ensure negligence or deliberate collusion of bank staff are not facilitating cybercriminals. The teams are scrutinising lapses in KYC compliance, procedural violations in account opening, the role of bank employees, and any signs of negligence. Continuing the drive, raids were conducted in districts of Karnal and Yamunanagar on Wednesday. In Yamunanagar, investigations revealed that a firm having a current account, officially shut down in March 2025, carried out transactions worth Rs 43 lakh. Nationwide, eight complaints were registered against this firm. Another current account was found to be opened on a fake address, and transactions worth Rs 2 crore made in just three months. The account has 33 complaints filed against it across the country. Haryana director general of police Shatrujeet Kapoor said a robust and multi-pronged strategy has been devised to clamp down on cybercrime. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo This includes strict monitoring of bank branches, rapid analysis of suspicious transactions, regular raids, and ensuring adherence to banking regulations.
