His name is Paul Heyman. He's a WWE Hall of Famer. A wrestling pioneer. It could've been very different.
The 59-year-old Wiseman and Oracle has helped shape the careers of fellow WWE legends from CM Punk and Roman Reigns to Brock Lesnar and countless more.
This week he's promoting the Nintendo Switch 2 version of WWE 2K25, which drops on July 23, but the game's cover star exclusively told Metro how a career in law was a real option earlier in life.
'My father was a highly respected personal injury attorney in the Bronx. That man would walk into the courthouse and you'd see other lawyers and bailiffs and even judges to sit there and bow down to my father because he was so respected,' he recalled.
'It would have been very easy to just go get a law degree and inherit his law firm – because he was a sole practitioner, it was just him. Richard S. Heyman Professional Corporation, that was it.

'But I carved out my own niche in this world, and there is a thrill and a joy to that that cannot be matched by being a potential 'nepo baby.' '
Instead, Heyman found his way into the wrestling business initially as a photographer, before finding his feet as a manager and eventually turning ECW into a pioneering movent in sports entertainment history.
Despite his rich legacy and influence, he doesn't want his own children – daughter Azalea and son Jacob, both in their early 20s – to follow in his footsteps.
'I want them to carve their own niche,' he explained. 'They don't have to measure up to what I've accomplished.'
Wrestling is Heyman's passion, and for the last several years he's been at the heart of WWE's iconic Bloodline Saga, initially by Roman Reigns' side.
The pair 'controlled the Undisputed WWE Championship for over 1,300 days, set box office records' and ushered in the TKO merger and Netflix deal.
'When you look back 50 years from now on, the contributions of Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman cannot be denied,' he said, while giving nods to Jimmy Uso, Jey Uso, Solo Sikoa and Sami Zayn for their roles.
His history with the 'real life Bloodline' goes back to Roman's uncle and father Afa and Sika, the Wild Samoans, which all led to him narrating this year's Bloodline Showcase mode in WWE 2K25.
'So many gamers now are going to get an actual education within a video game. Imagine that,' he quipped. 'If you want to go to Wrestling College, or you want to go to WWE University, your professor's name is Paul Heyman.'
Despite those deep ties, at WrestleMania Heyman turned on the Tribal Chief, and best friend CM Punk, to align himself with Seth Rollins.
'I never think short term. I always think long term. And the long term to me was that Roman Reigns and I had accomplished everything that we could,' he said of the major creative shift.
'It was time for Seth Rollins to elevate himself to be declared the greatest in ring performer of this or any other generation.'
Rollins is injured after an unfortunate moment at Saturday Night's Main Event last weekend, but Heyman is still focused on helping his allies Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker.
'The natural progression is, 'What's the main event of WrestleMania 42, 43, 44, 45, 50?,'' Heyman pondered. 'It was time to get Bron Breakker ready for his future, which is to main event multi Wrestlemanias.'
He added: 'And for Bronson Reed to get the credit as a monster that he deserves, since he was so dramatically underappreciated and underutilised as well.'
The Hall of Famer acknowledged the real life elements of WrestleMania this year, as he walked out with Punk for the his best friend's first ever main event at the Showcase of the Immortals.
However, he revealed: 'The moment I laid the law down to Roman Reigns and CM Punk and handed the chair to Seth Rollins, the first thing that popped into my head was, 'Wow, this is an all time WrestleMania moment. And now we're going to have to top it.''
His reputation as a creative genius comes with a lot of pressure, but Heyman doesn't quite look at it that way.
'[There is] a common denominator in anyone that I've had the privilege of working with closely – be it Brock Lesnar, be it CM Punk, be it Roman Reigns, be it Seth Rollins, be it Bronson Reed, Bron Breakker,' he explained.
'They rise to the occasion. They respond to the pressure, and it creates an environment in which they give you an even greater performance.'
So what keeps Heyman going, decades into his career? He won't be 'riding off into the sunset' any time soon. More Trending
'I look for the next spiritual orgasm that I can share with a stadium filled with 80 to 100,000 people, because otherwise, all I'm doing is living off the name,' he pondered.
'While my name is Paul Heyman, and people know it worldwide, I don't want to live off of the name. I want to earn the reputation that I've built.'

Hulk Hogan felt 'embarrassed' at how fragile he'd become in his final weeks, WWE icon's friend reveals

Eric Bischoff, the boss of WCW who managed to convince Hulk Hogan to betray the WWE, shared an insight into the wresting icon's condition after his passing at age 71. Hogan was rushed to a hospital after suffering from cardiac arrest at his home in Florida last week. Speaking to the '83 Weeks' podcast, Bischoff says he spoke to Hogan weeks before his passing and revealed that the 'Hulkster' did not sound well. 'I could tell he was weak, he sounded tired,' Bischoff said, 'but he still had that "What are we going to do next?" kind of underlying current of energy in his voice, even though he sounded tired, sounded weak. 'He still had that, "What's going on with Real American Freestyle? Where we at?" Checking up on me to make sure I'm on top of my s–t.' Bischoff, 70, managed to capture lightning in a bottle when Hogan turned heel in the WCW and led the 'nWo' stable which took wrestling by storm. The former promoter and WWE Hall of Famer said he called Hogan after the wrestler's son, Nick, asked Bischoff to check up on him after being released from the hospital. Bischoff offered to visit Hogan - born Terry Bollea - in Florida, but the 71-year-old icon had some concerns. 'He goes, 'Man, I really want to see you, but I'm kind of embarrassed for you to see me this way because I've been pretty sick,'' Bischoff recalled. 'I said, "Hulk, when I look at you, I don't see the same thing that you see when you look in the mirror. So f–k that, I'll be down Monday."' Bischoff did indeed end up visiting Hogan for about an hour, with discussions about the Real American Freestyle professional wrestling promotion they were trying to set up together. 'All he wanted to talk about as business, but in a fun, energetic way even though he was struggling — it was just a little more effort than it should have been for him to talk at that time because of his larynx and all that stuff got moved around during surgery, so it was work for him to have a conversation. ' Bischoff said. 'He was the same guy.' By Hogan's side was a nurse who was 'anxious' as she tended to the wrestler - lifting his legs and giving him oxygen. Bischoff eventually left to stop being an 'obstacle' and a 'burden', saying they'd try to line Hogan up for some interviews. But Bischoff admitted that was a false hope, but he wanted to give Hogan something to look forward to. 'He said, 'Brother, I can't wait. I may not be able to do anything on camera for a couple of weeks, but I'll be good on the phone. You can set some stuff up for me on the phone,'' Bischoff said. 'He was so anxious to get back to work.'

I interview celebrities – but Rob Brydon's sweaty bus tour was utterly surreal

Sweating buckets on a bus while Rob Brydon offers me sweets was not on my 2025 Bingo card. But that's where I found myself one boiling day in early July, as I joined the TV presenter for a one-of-a-kind experience ahead of his new BBC series. 'We're all sitting here like lobsters in a pot,' the Gavin and Stacey star quipped in his unmistakable sardonic tone as we fanned ourselves in the sweltering summer heat. It's a testament to how intriguing the premise of Destination X is – a crossover between Race Across The World and The Traitors, with a £100,000 cash prize at the end – that Metro and a group of fellow journalists willingly sat on a stifling coach for an hour during the height of summer to find out more. I've interviewed plenty of celebrities throughout my career in the entertainment world – such as Richard E Grant in a trailer at Leavesden Studios, and Tom Cruise in Leicester Square – but hanging out on a bus with the host of Would I Lie To You? was certainly one of the most surreal encounters I've had. Our day started at the Curzon Cinema in Hoxton, as a bus with blacked-out windows waited for its passengers to board. A far cry from the airport where the contestants on the series begin their journeys in episode one, without a single clue of where they're being taken. As I walked up the steps into the coach, the luxurious layout took me by surprise immediately. Plush emerald green sofas and matching cushions, boxes of popcorn, supplies of sweets on every armrest. I'll admit, the sweet tooth in me was successfully distracted. What I should have realised is that these snacks weren't just a lovely treat. They were clues, meticulously placed to help us guess where we were going in our miniature version of the Destination X gameshow. That's the aim of the series – for the 13 participants to try and figure out where on Earth they are… literally. They're sent off on a bus with opaque windows, and take part in challenges for the chance to win clues that will help them suss out their location. At some points, the windows of the bus are momentarily cleared, and they're permitted a short glimpse outside to take in their surroundings. That happened with us too – for a few precious seconds, we could see Tower Bridge in the distance. But for the competitors of Destination X, it's far harder for them to figure out where they are than you might realise. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Every episode, the contestants place their guesses on a map. If their guess is the furthest from the correct answer, they're eliminated, and their chances of going home with the £100,000 jackpot are blown. I'd say I'm fairly good at spotting clues. I love a good TV mystery, and grew up playing chess, so I have a keen eye for detail. But after attempting to play the game for a single hour a few weeks ago, all I'll say is that it's a good thing that I didn't quit the day job. As Rob sits next to me on the bus – foregoing his jacket given the muggy heat we're all failing to ignore – it's clear how passionate he is about Destination X, his first foray into hosting a gameshow. With decades of experience in showbiz, starring in films and TV shows such as Holmes & Watson, Barbie and My Lady Jane, Rob knows how to bring the charm to an audience. But he also knows when entertainment shouldn't come at the expense of someone's feelings. 'You're very aware of [the contestants'] feelings, because they're playing for a lot of money,' he tells us sincerely. 'I always wanted to be a friendly figure who would occasionally make little jokes, but friendly jokes.' In the opening episode, the moment when he had to tell someone that they'd been eliminated – and their face 'crumpled' with devastation– was particularly difficult for him to endure. However, that's the nature of gameshows. People have to be sent home for the champion to be crowned, and in Rob's view, Destination X is a show that the whole family can enjoy, especially as they work together to try to solve the clues from home. 'What I love about it is that it's for the family. I love shows that you can sit and… we would watch The Traitors as a family, and Race Across The World. I love that. More Trending 'I'm proud of Would I Lie to You? being something you can watch [with your family]. The humour is sharp, it's clever, but you can watch it with your family. I hope this becomes something, appointment viewing for a family. Because if you're anything like me as a parent, you're desperate for the stuff that can persuade [your kids] to spend time with you.' So, after that segue about the importance of watching TV as a family, I bet you're wondering where we ended up on our little journey across London as a mini taster of what it's like to play Destination X. Clues like popcorn buckets and ticket stubs weren't enough to help us journalists realise that we had literally driven around in a circle and ended back where we started, at Curzon Cinema in Hoxton. Way to make us realise we'd have no chance at winning that £100,000! View More » Destination X launches tonight at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Episodes air on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson had ‘strangest sex scene' in Naked Gun reboo

Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson have left us all in total confusion over whether or not they are actually dating, after being hit with romance rumours. The pair have shared the screen in the new Naked Gun reboot, which is released in cinemas on August 1, but are rumoured to have taken their chemistry off camera. According to insiders, the Taken actor, 73, and the Baywatch icon, 58, are said to be 'enjoying each other's company' and are clearly 'smitten'. Although they have remained coy about the status of their relationship, they did get up close and personal on the set of their new comedy, with writers Dan Gregor and Doug Mand sharing that it was probably the 'strangest sex scene' the stars had filmed. Speaking to Metro at the New York premiere, they shed light on the most absurd thing they asked Liam – who plays the main role of officer Frank Drebin Jr – to do in the role, Dan didn't hold back. 'This is a spoiler, but he has a great … very strange love scene that I believe has to be the strangest sex scene of his life,' he told us. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video 'Every day was the strangest thing,' Doug recalled. 'Every scene is like, 'Liam Neeson is doing this?'' 'We didn't even have an intimacy coordinator for that, no one knew how to do it,' Dan quipped. Thankfully, there actually was an intimacy coordinator present for the shoot, with one particularly bizarre montage showing Frank and Beth (Pamela) taking their relationship to the next level – where they were joined in the bedroom by a snowman. Despite the absurd set-up, Liam shared that those moments were actually his favourite to film, adding more fuel to the romance speculation. In a photoshoot and interview with You Magazine, where they were reportedly 'all over each other' the Love Actually star admitted that 'the sex scenes' with Pamela were his highlight. Speaking of the coordinator, he revealed: 'I'd never had one before. But she was in the background. There was no kind of, 'Okay, excuse me!'''. 'She knew when to walk away,' Pamela joked, pretending to be an exasperated intimacy coordinator, throwing her hands in the air and storming off, continuing the bit by adding: ''I can't take this!'' 'She said, 'This is too hot for me. I'm going for coffee,'' Liam added, while also referring to his co-star's audition tape as 'incredibly sexy' and 'funny'. Both have remained publicly single over the last few years, with The Last Showgirl star Pamela stating in September that she was 'much happier' on her own, but added that not being in a relationship after five marriages was 'tough'. Meanwhile Liam hasn't seriously dated anyone since his wife, Parent Trap actress Natasha Richardson, tragically died at the age of 45 after sustaining head injuries in a skiing accident in 2009. During a TV appearance on the Today show, they clearly had some fun with the speculation when host Craig Melvin asked: 'What's the deal here? You're both single right now. There's clearly chemistry. Are you two an item?' 'What?! I don't understand the question,' Pamela coyly replied while Liam jokingly shook his head. However, a source shared with People Magazine that they are 'smitten', insisting: 'It's a budding romance in the early stages. 'It's sincere, and it's clear they're smitten with each other.' They added that the stars are 'enjoying each other's company'. 'I'm madly in love with her,' Liam said of Pamela in a previous interview while promoting the film. 'With Pamela, first off, I'm madly in love with her. She's just terrific to work with,' he said. 'I can't compliment her enough, I'll be honest with you. 'No huge ego. She just comes in to do the work. She's funny and so easy to work with. She's going to be terrific in the film.' Meanwhile Pamela described her castmate as the 'perfect gentleman'. 'He brings out the best in you… with respect, kindness and depth of experience. It was an absolute honor to work with him,' she raved, despite having entered the rehearsal room 'shaking' with nerves, intimidated to meet him. 'Once we got going he's such a gentleman, he's such a sweetheart. He's so giving and generous and we're very complimentary and supportive. You can't help but fall in love with Liam.' Fans' eyebrows are sky-high at this point, with social media flooded with questions over whether they're the real deal. 'Are they in love or something?' asked @kingshagrin. That is the question. Their overtly flirty interviews could be part of a whole marketing campaign for The Naked Gun, their sequel to slapstick 1980s and 90s comedy of the same name. In it, Liam plays head of the police squad Frank Drebin Jr who must follow in his father's footsteps and save the world, with Pamela as 'femme fatale' Beth, who goes to the police for help after her brother's murder. A previous promotional video for reboot showed them hamming up their off-screen flirtation, very much tongue in cheek. When asked how they were building chemistry for the role, Liam innocently responded, 'Nothing out of the ordinary,' before a clip showed the pair in various romantic settings which were very much out of the ordinary. More Trending He was shown putting his arm around her in front of an ocean sunset, the duo laughed in a fairy-lit restaurant over spaghetti, and danced in the moonlight, even going so far as doing trust falls. After all these clips played out like a romantic comedy montage, it cut to Pamela sitting next to Liam in the interview setting, as she said: 'Yeah, just the usual.'
