Gamecocks get go-ahead run on balk, beat Charleston
COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in a 4-3 win over the College of Charleston Tuesday night (March 18) at Segra Park, home of the Columbia Fireflies.
The Cougars got the first out of the seventh but Nathan Hall and Evan Stone reached on back-to-back singles. After a walk and a fielder's choice got the second out, Kennedy Jones and Dalton Mashore walked to tie the game at three. The winning run came home on a balk that scored KJ Scobey.
Scobey brought in the game's first run in the first with an RBI single to left. The Cougars answered with a run in the second and scored two in the top of the seventh. Ryder Garino came in the game in the seventh and struck out the side, keeping it at 3-1 Cougars.
Garino earned the win on the mound for Carolina, striking out four in 1.2 innings of work. Parker Marlatt earned his first save, striking out three in 1.1 innings. Jarvis Evans gave Carolina a quality start, striking out five and allowing five hits and a run in six innings.
Stone had two hits to lead the Carolina offense.
POSTGAME NOTES
The Gamecocks and Cougars played for the first time since the 2018 season, with that game also at Segra Park.
Hall extended his hitting streak to 12 games.
Gavin Braland returned to the Carolina lineup after missing the previous two weeks to injury.

Kirby regrouped and struck out Chris Taylor with a perfect slider on the corner. Tri-Village wins program's first state title
AKRON, Ohio (WDTN) – Tri-Village softball won the program's first-ever state championship Sunday after defeating Sugarcreek Garaway 6-0 in the final. It was the Patriots' first trip to the state final since 1980. Emma Greet led the way at the plate for the Patriots, going 2-3 with an RBI base hit. Elizabeth Poling tossed a dime for Tri-Village, pitching the complete-game shutout with just three hits given up and striking out three. Associated Press LOS ANGELES (AP) — Payton Brennan had three hits, two RBIs and scored two runs on Sunday and UCLA beat UTSA 7-0 to win the Los Angeles Super Regional and advance to the College World Series. UCLA won its first super regional title since 2013 when the Bruins claimed the program's only national championship. The No. 15 seed Bruins (46-16) advance to the College World Series and play the winner between Duke and Murray State in the CWS. Brennan hit a two-out double and Toussaint Bythewood followed with an RBI single off starter Conor Myles (5-2) to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead in the fourth. Phoenix Call led off the fifth with a bunt single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Dean West before Roch Cholowsky drove in Call with a single to left field that made it 2-0.
