While the IPL Governing Council has granted an extra two hours for the playoffs to deal with rain delays, a 'Reserve Day' has been allotted only for the final. AP
The 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is on the verge of arriving at its conclusion, with just two more games to go. Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians face off in the first of those two games, in Qualifier 2 at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, with the winner of that game then scheduled to face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final two days later.
Will rain affect Qualifier 2 in Ahmedabad?
While Ahmedabad has witnessed showers in the build-up to Sunday's Qualifier 2 between PBKS and MI, the match isn't expected to witness much interruption with a 9 per cent chance of rain predicted for the evening, as per the forecast on Accuweather. Which means that while there could be interruptions during the game, it isn't likely to hold play up long enough to lead to reduction of overs.
What happens if the PBKS-MI showdown is washed out?
The IPL Governing Council has allotted up to two hours for the completion of a game in the playoffs if rain does havoc. However, in the event that rain absolutely refuses to relent and ends up washing the game out, then that will mark a heartbreaking end to Mumbai Indians' campaign and their quest for a sixth IPL title.
Since there isn't a reserve day for any game other than the final, the upcoming match will be deemed over once it crosses its final cut-off time – which includes the special two-hour extension granted exclusively for playoff games to combat rain delays.

And if the match does end in a washout, the team that had finished higher on the points table at the end of the league phase advances, as per IPL rules. PBKS had finished on top of the table with 19 points while MI had finished fourth, and Shreyas Iyer's men will thus be rewarded for being the more consistent of the two teams in the league stage.

"Before A Match, I Would Automatically...": Pragyan Ojha Shares Cricketing Superstition

Former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha shared his long-standing superstition. He mentioned that he always called his family before a match, but a missed call due to poor network in Sri Lanka led to him becoming Muttiah Muralitharan's 800th wicket. Ojha last played an international game in 2013, which was also the retirement match for Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar at the Wankhede Stadium. In the game, he managed to take ten wickets and was awarded the Player of the Match. Speaking on 'Cheeky Singles', Pragyan Ojha said, "Whenever I used to get in the team bus before a match, I would automatically call my mom, then my dad. Even if both of them were sitting together, I'd call them separately. Then I'd call my uncle, who was a cricketer and the one who inspired me to take up the game. Even if I had called my uncle 10 minutes before the match, he would have picked up. But in Sri Lanka, at that time, there was no network, and the call didn't go through. Because of that, I became Muttiah Muralitharan's 800th wicket." The 33-year-old Ojha had made his international debut in 2008 against Bangladesh in Karachi. A year later, he went on to make his Test debut against Sri Lanka . The spinner went on to play 24 Tests, 18 ODIs and six T20Is for India and finished with a total of 144 wickets in the international game. In the longest format of the game, he managed to take 113 wickets, with the best bowling figures of 6-47. He was last seen in action in 2018 as he played a first-class match in Dehradun. He also made a name for himself in the Indian Premier League as he played for the Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians. He was a key member of the Deccan Chargers IPL-winning team in 2009. He last played a match in the premier tournament in 2015 for the Mumbai Indians.

Ex-India Opener Feels RCB Star Is 'Best Finisher In T20 Cricket' Right Now

Last Updated: The 29-year-old RCB star has played five T20Is in 2025 and, with the help of 15 fours and 27 sixes, has amassed a total of 265 runs in four innings. Australian middle-order batter Tim David has been in red-hot form these days. The 29-year-old right-handed batter from Singapore who plays for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the cash-rich Indian Premier League has scored a total of 265 runs in five T20Is for the Australian team in 2025. In his last four T20I innings, David has scored 102 not out from 37 balls and 30 from 12 balls against the West Indies and 83 from 52 balls and 50 runs from 24 balls against South Africa. His batting strike rate in the shortest format of the game this year is 212.00. During the T20I match played between Australia and the West Indies in Basseterre on July 25, he completed his century in just 37 balls, which helped him break the record of scoring the fastest century in T20Is for Australia. David's red-hot form with the bat these days earned him big praise from former Indian opener Aakash Chopra. In a video uploaded by Aakash on his YouTube channel, he said that David is the best finisher in the world right now. 'He's growing in stature and how. See his figures in the last five matches (265 runs, 1 century, 2 fifties, 212 strike rate, 15 fours, 27 sixes, and a batting average of 88.33). He's playing at a different level. He's batting like nobody can catch him. He was a steal deal for RCB (signed for Rs 3 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction). He scored runs in IPL 2025 (187 in 12 matches) and helped his team win matches. He's probably the best finisher in T20 cricket right now. The way he's batting and the consistency with which he is batting – everything is falling in place. Tim David has been absolutely outstanding." Chopra also made a bold prediction for David's Australian teammate Cameron Green and said that the former Mumbai Indians and RCB star could be the most expensive player in the IPL 2026 auction, which is likely to take place later this year. Green has played seven T20Is for Australia in 2025 and, with the help of three fifties, has scored 249 runs. He missed the 2025 edition of the IPL due to an injury. 'I think he can be the most expensive player in the IPL 2026 auction. Since he has made a return to international cricket, his batting form has been incredible. He is not ready to bowl at the moment, but he will start doing it at some stage. He could actually break the bank. Log inke upar bahut paisa udane wale hai," Chopra said. In the IPL 2023 auction, Green was signed for Rs 17.50 crore by the Mumbai Indians, and he joined RCB in a trade deal worth Rs 17.50 crore ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
