BJP could see more changes after new MPs, governors, party chief

The Narendra Modi government may have plans for a Union Cabinet reshuffle, having completed one year of its third tenure. The ongoing organisation changes leading up to the election of a new BJP national president and a change in governors, with three new ones appointed Monday, are preparing the ground for it, as per sources.
The appointment of new governors for Haryana and Goa and a Lt Governor for Ladakh comes a day after the Modi government announced nomination of four new members to the Rajya Sabha – Advocate Ujjwal Nikam, Meenakshi Jain, Harsh Vardhan Shringla and C Sadanandan Master.
A senior BJP leader said: 'A majority of ministers holding significant portfolios have been repeated from the previous Modi government… While the emphasis so far was on continuity, the Cabinet may now be recalibrated along new priorities like External Affairs, as well as trade and commerce due to the new tariff regime of US President Donald Trump.'
A party source pointed to Shringla, who has served as Indian Ambassador to the US, being inducted as MP.
BJP insiders said that among those who may be replaced in the Cabinet are Rajya Sabha MPs who are towards the fag end of their tenure, who could be accommodated in the party's organisational ranks.
Others said the BJP will look at leaders from its alliance partners, such as the JD(U), Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and TDP, for ministers. While the JD(U) and LJP are based in Bihar, which goes to polls soon, the TDP heads the sole government in the South that the BJP is a part of.
A leader said: 'Things have begun moving and the only relevant question is what happens next – a gubernatorial reshuffle, the announcement of the national party president and other leaders to senior party ranks, or a Cabinet reshuffle.'
The BJP has completed the mandatory requirement of electing chiefs in more than half of its 37 state units, and is expected to set the ball rolling on who will succeed J P Nadda soon.

Chhattisgarh deports 30 undocumented Bangladeshi immigrants

RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh on Tuesday deported 30 Bangladeshi nationals following an ongoing verification exercise in the state, with the individuals being sent back to their homeland. The undocumented Bangladeshi migrants were taken by flight to Guwahati, where they will be handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF), a police officer said. After initiating the necessary action and completing the process of deportation, all illegal immigrants will be sent across the border into the neighbouring country. The thirty immigrants found staying 'without valid documents' were traced from the districts of Raipur, Durg, Rajnandgaon and Raigarh. They were apprehended following intelligence inputs and some complaints received from local inhabitants about the foreigners staying illegally. According to a senior intelligence officer, some Bangladeshis had even procured Indian passports in Chhattisgarh, travelled to their country, and returned to the state. On Tuesday, the issue of Bangladeshi and Rohingya undocumented immigrants was raised by senior BJP MLA Ajay Chandrakar in the House, claiming that their strength is consistently on the rise in different districts of the state. Chandrakar claimed that illegal immigrants are accessing the benefits of government schemes after they secured documents illegally on the basis of 'false documentation' and the official machinery failing to enforce stringent regulations.

For the monsoon session of Parliament, which begins on 21 July, the government has listed eight new bills to be introduced, including the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, and the Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill. The session is also set to witness the Opposition INDIA bloc parties demanding that the government brief Parliament on Operation Sindoor, India's foreign relations—especially with China, the proposed India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement, and US President Donald Trump's repeated claims that he used trade as a bargaining chip to persuade India and Pakistan to end their military conflict. On Tuesday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, who is also the leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, met Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. 'The Opposition wants a productive Rajya Sabha session from 21 July. For that to happen, several strategic, political, foreign policy, and socio-economic issues that are of great public concern need to be debated and discussed,' Kharge said in a post on X after the meeting. The government is also set to introduce the Geoheritage Sites and Geo-relics (Preservation and Maintenance) Bill, the National Sports Governance Bill, and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill. According to the government's list of business, the Mines and Minerals Bill will seek to provide for the viable recovery of associated critical minerals, inclusion of contiguous areas in a lease for optimal and scientific mining of deep-seated minerals, and widen the scope of the National Mineral Exploration Trust. The Jan Vishwas Bill seeks to foster ease of doing business and promote ease of living. The Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill seeks to include IIM Guwahati in the Schedule of the Act. The Geoheritage Sites and Geo-relics (Preservation and Maintenance) Bill seeks to provide for the declaration, preservation, protection, and maintenance of geoheritage sites and geo-relics of national importance for geological studies. The National Sports Governance Bill aims to establish institutional capacity and standards for the governance of sports federations, as well as measures for the resolution of sports grievances and disputes. In addition to these bills, Parliament will also consider some of the pending bills, including the Income Tax Bill, which was referred to a Select Committee during the Budget session for further scrutiny. The government will also seek Parliament's approval for having extended President's Rule in Manipur. Some of the pending bills listed by the government for passage include the Bills of Lading Bill, the Carriage of Goods by Sea Bill, the Coastal Shipping Bill, the Merchant Shipping Bill, and the Indian Ports Bill.

NCP warns two Kerala MLAs to quit or face disqualification over anti-party activities

1 2 T'puram/Kottayam: NCP national working president Praful Patel has sent a letter to its two MLAs in Kerala who "contested on the party symbol but had been engaging in anti-party activities" to quit the posts or face disqualification under the provisions of the Peoples Representation Act and Anti-Defection Law. In a letter sent to the party's state president and Kuttanad MLA Thomas K Thomas, Patel, who is the working president of the NCP Ajit Pawar faction, said both Thomas and forest minister A K Saseendran representing Elathur constituency, were suspended from the party for six years for breaching party discipline. Patel stated that Thomas had not been attending party meetings either. "It has also come to the notice of the national leadership that Thomas has taken over as the state president of another party," Patel said. NCP's Kerala faction is supporting the Sharad Pawar faction of the NCP. However, the party symbol, clock, has been allotted to the Ajit faction. Hence, Patel issued the warning to the party MLAs now. But both MLAs made it clear that they would stick with Sharad Pawar and could not be disqualified. Thomas said the majority of workers in the state also are aligned with the NCP Sharad Pawar faction. Therefore, it is not clear what the basis of the letter is, he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pernas e tornozelos inchados? Sharad Pawar and Supriya contested on the 'clock' symbol. "A disciplinary action now against us, which was not initiated against them, is baseless," Thomas said. He also said that according to the party rules, there was no place for the working president. He also said that the letter had no basis as the case was under the consideration of the Supreme Court. Saseendran said Patel's letter would not be considered by the state unit, which has always been working as per the party's constitution. The ruling LDF has already been facing trouble with another front partner JD(S), which has two members including state electricity minister K Krishnankutty in the assembly. JD(S), led by H D Deve Gowda, is currently an ally of the ruling NDA at Centre, something opposition leader V D Satheesan has questioned.
