‘Oraniyil TN' case: Madras HC rejects DMK's request for urgent hearing
Appearing through video conference before a bench of justices S M Subramaniam and A D Maria Clete on Tuesday morning, senior counsel P Wilson, who represented DMK, contended that petitioner S Rajkumar has made false allegations and that DMK cadre did not collect Aadhaar details during the enrolment drive.
Claiming that an interim order was obtained by making false charges, Wilson requested the court to take up the matter for urgent hearing. However, the judges refused and told him to file an impleading petition.
On Monday, Rajkumar alleged that DMK cadre demanded personal identification documents of voters. They also got the mobile numbers of voters and enrolled them as members of the party by verifying a One Time Password (OTP) sent to their number. Hearing this, the bench ordered an interim injunction restraining DMK from sending OTP verification messages to individuals and adjourned the case for two weeks.

Act on plea for database of repeat sexual offence complainants: HC to authorities
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed the police and other authorities in the Capital to expeditiously decide on a plea seeking the creation of a database of individuals who have filed multiple complaints of sexual offences. A Bench of Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela observed that the petitioner had already submitted a representation to the Delhi police and other authorities concerned. Responding to the petitioner's request for a judicial direction to create and maintain such a database, the court said that the matter falls within the domain of the authorities, adding, 'They know better how policing is to be done.' 'Without expressing any opinion on the merits of the issues raised, the petition is disposed of with the direction to the authorities to take an informed decision on the petitioner's representation with expedition,' the court noted. The petition was filed by Shonee Kapoor, represented by advocate Shashi Ranjan Kumar Singh, seeking a directive to the government and the Delhi police to maintain a record at each police district headquarters of complainants who have filed more than one allegation of rape or sexual offences. The plea also called for the mandatory collection of identity proof, preferably Aadhaar, from such complainants. The petition alleged rampant misuse of rape laws by some complainants.

Min pledges support to transgender community
Lucknow: Social welfare minister Asim Arun assured members of the transgender community that he would ensure that they get all govt facilities and basic infrastructure at the earliest. Talking to members of the community in Basti on Wednesday, the minister said that transgender settlements would be identified in Basti and efforts would be initiated to ensure all basic facilities, including roads, water, electricity and sanitation, there. The minister promised govt funding to groups involved in activities like dairy and goat farming so that they can strengthen and expand their businesses. As part of the scheme to ensure financial independence for members of the transgender community, those interested in starting businesses such as beauty parlours, computer centres and public service centres would receive training and get access to easy loans. Besides, a survey will be conducted to identify persons who do not have requisite identity documents. The social welfare department will then assist such persons to get the necessary paperwork done for IDs such as Aadhaar. A 'Garima Griha', similar to the one in Gorakhpur, would also be opened in Basti. "The department of social welfare is consistently working to deliver govt schemes and resources to the transgender community. In line with this, a special dialogue focusing on the empowerment of the transgender community was organised in Basti on Wednesday. Approximately 40 members of the transgender community participated and engaged with officials from the administration, police and various departments," said a department spokesperson.

It's too ambitious, they said. But with growth like this, what once seemed distant is now well within reach," he posted on X. State finance minister Thangam Thennarasu attributed the double-digit growth rate to financial prudence. "Double digit growth rate in real terms is yet another feather in the hat of Dravidian model govt. The growth was possible due to our financial prudence. We have not only boosted our GSDP but boosted the economy of the country as well," Thennarasu told reporters at Anna Arivalayam.
