Wynne Evans says he is not a misogynist after remarks during Strictly tour

The Welsh tenor and BBC Radio Wales presenter, also known for his Go.Compare insurance adverts, was touring with the live show after competing on the BBC One programme with Katya Jones last year, when reports by the Mail On Sunday claimed the singer had made sexual remarks about Janette Manrara during a cast photocall.
Evans issued a statement apologising and said: 'I've agreed with the BBC that I'll take some time out from my radio show and the Strictly Live tour, as well as my other public commitments, to prioritise my wellbeing.
'I am deeply sorry for the pain my inappropriate actions have caused, and plan to take this time for self-reflection.'
Speaking to the Sun on Sunday, he claimed he had not seen the statement apologising for the remark.
He told the newspaper the comment was not sexual or directed to Manrara but was a nickname for fellow contestant, EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick.
He said: 'I didn't see the statement. Old Spit-roast Boy was a nickname for Jamie Borthwick. I'm not a bad guy, I'm not a misogynist, I'm not any of these things.'
'It's been heartbreaking. 'Spit-roast boy' was a nickname we all gave Jamie Borthwick because he could contort his legs over his head like a spit-roast chicken.
'But it absolutely wasn't meant sexually – and the fact I used 'boy', all right it's nuanced, but it shows I was talking to Jamie, not Janette.
'And of course, your natural reaction is, if you're told you've offended someone, you say, 'God, I'm so sorry'.
'And so I went, 'I'm so sorry'. And that was taken as a formal apology, so the press team issued a statement. I didn't see it.
'When I read the apology within the context of the story as it had been written, I was absolutely horrified.
'It's been a truly awful past few months, having to keep my counsel and let the narrative that I'm some sort of weirdo run.
'I'm not a misogynist, I'm not any of these things.'
Evans was also criticised when a video showed him place his hand on professional dancer Jones's waist, which she moved, during last year's Strictly Come Dancing competition.
He claimed this was a 'body language experiment' from TikTok that Jones had suggested, and added: 'We did it, we laughed, we went downstairs to make-up and my phone explodes and I look at it… and let me tell you the body language experiment worked.'
Later Evans and Jones apologised claiming that it had been a 'joke'.
The singer performed in the 25th anniversary of The Phantom Of The Opera and also won 2023's Celebrity MasterChef.
He was eliminated during the Blackpool week of Strictly last year.

Holly Willoughby suffers major blow as Netflix show is 'axed' after one season

Holly Willoughby's Netflix series Celebrity Bear Hunt has reportedly been axed (Picture: Netflix) British TV personality Holly Willoughby's Netflix show Celebrity Bear Hunt reportedly won't be returning to screens for a second season. The former This Morning star, 44, broke into the Netflix presenting market last year by hosting a survival show which plunged a group of famous faces into the jungles of Costa Rica where they are chased by famed survivalist Bear Grylls. The show featured the likes of Spice Girls icon Mel B, retired tennis player Boris Becker, TV presenter Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, and Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas. Although the show comfortably topped the UK Netflix charts – and hung about in the top 10 for multiple weeks – it didn't quite make the same splash globally, with insiders claiming at the time that execs didn't believe it had been worth the 'huge financial cost', per The Mirror. Now, four months after its premiere, it looks as though its fate has been sealed with sources telling MailOnline it will not be returning. The insider said: 'Everyone was very proud of the show but when it came to it, it was just so expensive to make. The expensive Costa Rica-based show performed well in the UK but not globally (Picture: Tom Dymond/Netflix) 'You had to have a whole set in Costa Rica, loads of staff and loads of celebrities. The overheads were eyewatering,' adding that cheaper locations were explored but ultimately nothing was found. It comes just two weeks after Grylls shared his hopes of a renewal with an optimistic update. 'God willing, we're just sort of figuring that out at the moment,' he told Dermot O'Leary on Radio 2. The first season, dubbed 'I'm A Celebrity on steroids' spanned 12 episodes and was won by Big Zuu where he was rewarded a rope worn by Grylls himself and which he has hung up in his home like a 'weird little mantlepiece' as he told Metro. Although it seems as though it is the end of the road for the reality show, it left a lasting mark on its cast, as The Saturdays' Una Healey explained. The show was ultimately won by Big Zuu (Picture: Tom Dymond/Netflix) It remains to be seen what the TV presenter does next (Picture: Kieron McCarron/ITV/REX/Shutterstock) '[Grylls] actually prepared us for the outside world afterwards, to get back to reality, which I did experience a mild form of PTSD. And he said that can happen,' she told The Sun at the time. The pop star added: 'It's very natural because you're coming back into your natural environment. But you've adapted to this whole new way of life. 'So he prepared me for that and I had it. I had a few aftershocks and nightmares and stuff.' As for Willoughby, it is unclear what her next career move is after her final ITV show, Dancing On Ice, announced it was coming to an end after 19 years. She also quit her co-hosting gig with Stephen Mulhern for the reboot of You Bet! after one season. Celebrity Bear Hunt is available to stream on Netflix. Metro has reached out to Netflix for comment. EastEnders legend Ross Kemp refuses to rule out return

The 60-year-old returned to EastEnders as Grant Mitchell after almost 10 years away earlier this year. His character arrived back on the Square to help his brother Phil with his mental health problems. Grant recently left Walford again for his home in Portugal. 🏆🥳 WINNER! 🥳🏆 What a year and what an honour to be crowned Best British Soap at The British @SoapAwards 2025 by the people who matter the most - YOU! ❤️ Thank you to everyone who voted! Lots of love, your #EastEnders family. #TheBritishSoapAwards @BBC @BBCOne @BBCiPlayer — BBC EastEnders (@bbceastenders) May 31, 2025 Speaking on Loose Women, Kemp said he owes the BBC soap 'a great debt' for giving him a career in television. Asked whether he would return to the role of Grant again, Kemp said: 'You just don't know, do you? You don't know what's in the minds of the people who work on it. 'I've also (always) known that without it, I wouldn't have had the career that I've had, I've always owed it a great debt and it was very good to me, and hopefully I was good to it, and why not keep it that way? 'I've always believed that you should leave doors swinging rather than shut them.' Kemp, who went on to produce a number of documentaries since first leaving EastEnders in 1999 including Ross Kemp On Gangs, Ross Kemp In Afghanistan and Ross Kemp: Extreme World, said he enjoyed returning to the soap. He explained: 'It was so wonderful to jump into Grant's leather jacket again, which I can still get in. EastEnders' top 5 villains 'It's a family, it's an ongoing thing, and I'm talking about the past, and they're really busy doing their own thing, I just parachute in, and I exit generally by the tube station. 'But they've got to be welcoming, because it's like a high-speed train, you've got to jump on it at the right time or you miss it. 'So luckily, Steve McFadden (who plays Phil), and Paul Bradley (who plays Nigel Bates), and Letitia (Dean, who plays Sharon Watts) opened the door for me, and it was like going back home, and it was great.' Are Ross Kemp and Steve McFadden friends? Their brotherly love on-screen may have been tested over the years, but in real life Kemp and actor McFadden share a close relationship. 'We've [McFadden and I] always remained friends, but, yeah, we are more in touch since I've gone back for the 40th anniversary,' Kemp told The Mirror earlier this year. 'Steve is a fine actor and I don't think soap actors get recognised for how good they are.' Recommended reading: Kemp began on the soap in 1990, and his previous appearance prior to his 2025 return, in 2016, marked his on-screen mother Dame Barbara Windsor's final episode as Peggy Mitchell. Where does Ross Kemp live? Kemp lives in the picturesque Thames-side village of Cookham in Berkshire. He is well known within the community and has openly spoken about how he frequently visits nearby Marlow's restaurants.
