Postie knocked down in Dunedin driveway
A Dunedin postie was treated by ambulance officers after being knocked off his motorbike in a Dunedin driveway.
The 54-year-old New Zealand Post delivery driver was hit by a car in High St, Mosgiel at 4.40pm yesterday, Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said.
A 46-year-old man reversing his vehicle out of a driveway knocked him off his motorbike.
Hato Hone St John attended and the man was treated at the scene, Snr Sgt Bond said.
This morning at 2.10am, a person driving a Subaru Legacy along Kaikorai Valley Rd crashed his vehicle into a power pole.
He was then observed ''stumbling'' away before running off.
Police are yet to locate the man and inquiries were ongoing, Snr Sgt Bond said.
At 8pm yesterday, a 33-year-old man driving through the Orari and Otaki Sts intersection pulled out in front of an 85-year-old woman's car.
This caused both vehicles to crash and both to be written off.
The 85-year-old woman was transported to Dunedin Hospital as a precaution, Snr Sgt Bond said.

Crackdown on campervan drug crimes

They included pre-packaged methamphetamine, LSD, cannabis and morphine, as well as drug paraphernalia. The arrest was the result of "significant and complex work" by officers throughout the southern policing district, Inspector Mike Bowman, Area Commander Southland, said in a statement tonight. 'Police will continue to disrupt the supply of harmful substances into our communities and hold offenders to account. "Every time we can take drug dealers, who trade on people's suffering, off the streets, it makes our communities safer. 'Drug dealing and the downstream effects, such as drug-related crime, causes harm that we all feel. Southern police will continue to stamp out drug dealing wherever we see it.' A significant amount of cash and multiple mobile devices were also found, police said, while an ammunition belt containing 13 12-gauge shotgun rounds was located at a property. Police were in the process of restraining, and hopefully forfeiting the campervan, estimated to be worth more than $200,000. 'The operation to shut this down was a whole-of-district, multi-team effort, with outstanding contributions across the board," Insp Bowman said. A 51-year-old man is facing charges of possession of methamphetamine for supply, obstructing police, supplying methamphetamine, possession of morphine, possession of LSD and unlawfully possessing ammunition. Burglar busted as stolen AirPods phone home
The tracking feature on a pair of stolen earbuds led police to a man wanted for two burglaries in Dunedin's student quarter. Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said police arrested the 33-year-old man at 10.40am yesterday. The man was charged with two burglaries — one in Castle St, on Thursday, and another in Leith St, on February 2. A pair of Apple AirPods taken in the Castle St burglary were tracked using the Find My app and found in a vehicle, which led police to further stolen property, Snr Sgt Bond said. Police were also called to the car crash on Caversham Valley Rd, at 9.20pm yesterday. A 21-year-old male driver travelling in the south-bound lane had crashed into a barrier on the other side of the road. ''Looks like he was heading up the hill, was skidding, losing control, went over the flax bushes . . . spun a couple of times and then crashed into the barrier on the other side of the road. ''Thankfully no-one else coming down the hill at that time.'' The man recorded a breath alcohol level of 828mcg. His driver's license was suspended and he was summonsed to appear in the Dunedin District Court.
