A New Role & a Rare 2-Word Comment: Prince William's Subtle References to Prince Harry This Week

Another week, another set of appearances from the royals—and this one was a big one: Prince William made his first appearance in Wattisham, Suffolk as Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps, a position bestowed on him by King Charles in 2024, but more notably, one that likely would have gone to Prince Harry had he not exited the royal family in 2020. (The Army Air Corps is Harry's former regiment with the Duke of Sussex serving as a pilot with the Corps during his second tour of Afghanistan up through 2014, something he opens up about quite a bit in Spare.) When Charles made the announcement of William's appointment back in 2023 around the time of his coronation, it was a bit controversial, but also speaks to a larger issue that looms over his reign: Harry. (More on that in a minute.)As part of William's appearance this week, he also had the chance to chat with soldiers who were on a water break from combat training. It was there that the Prince of Wales brought up the topic of family, according to the Daily Mail. 'Is the pace of life good at the moment?' he asked. One of the soldiers replied that it was a 'mixed bag,' which is when William took that two-word phrase and ran with it: 'Families OK? See you enough? Some of them might not want to see you that much. It's a mixed bag sometimes.' Oof. Whether or not William was directly referencing the situation with his brother is up for interpretation, but it resurfaces the mounting pressure for the Prince of Wales and the king to extend an olive branch and make a public move toward reconciliation with the Sussexes—or put themselves at risk of this being the line that is forever drawn when it comes to their royal reputations. (My guess is that this is the opposite of what they want.)That's not to say that William and Charles aren't justified in their actions—two things can be true. As many reputable publications have reported, trust issues are certainly at play. Harry's perspective is the public perspective, for better or worse, but in the case of the monarchy, the family is intertwined so deeply with the business, it feels logical for an effort to be made to smooth things over if only to achieve some sort of closure that removes this asterisk on their legacy. Based on Harry's recent chat with the BBC, he's ready and willing, not to mention openly asking for it. The ball is in their court. The problem is that until they make a move, no matter how good Charles's (and William's) public performance is, the private family drama will overshadow and minimize those efforts. Like I said, there are bigger issues at play: A lack of trust, battles over security, so much. This royal rift runs deep. But the 'never complain, never explain' motto beloved by the late Queen Elizabeth II doesn't seem to be working here and the noise around this issue is getting louder. The choice is theirs. 'Excited' Meghan Markle Sizzles In A White Slip Dress In New Pic Of Her Running On The Beach

Meghan Markle seems to be in a great place in her life if the new blissful photo of her running on the beach is anything to go by. The duchess has been in a generous mood lately as she has given royal fans a peek into her life by sharing rare family moments from a Disneyland trip with Prince Harry and their children. Meghan Markle also recently went viral online and sparked an intense debate after posting a video of herself dancing while pregnant to induce labor. On Saturday, June 7, Meghan looked breathtaking as she was captured in a serene moment by the beach, as seen in a photo posted on the Instagram page of her lifestyle brand, As Ever. Dressed in a flowing white gown, the Duchess of Sussex ran barefoot along the shoreline, casually brushing her hair back with one hand. The caption read: "So excited for all the good to come! Running into the weekend like." The image certainly wowed royal fans as several took to social media to praise the former actress. One person wrote, "Good for her. Enjoying every minute of her fabulous life despite all those deranged haters," while another noted that "she looks happy and fab." The beach photo comes just hours after Meghan shared a heartfelt montage of a recent family trip to Disneyland, featuring herself, Prince Harry, and their children: Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lillibet, four. Describing their two-day Disneyland vacation as "pure joy," the mother of two expressed gratitude to the company that made the getaway possible. The photos captured the family enjoying numerous rides and indulging in delicious treats. Among the highlights was the adorable moment Lillibet and Archie met Elsa from "Frozen" for the first time. Another photo captured the duke and his daughter enjoying a theme park ride together, and a different one with his son. Prior to Meghan's Disneyland video montage, she shared a video of herself and Harry dancing in what appeared to be a hospital room, a lighthearted moment meant to induce labor before Lilibet's birth. The clip showed a visibly pregnant Meghan twerking playfully in a black gown, while Harry danced alongside her in a grey hoodie and jeans. Posting the video on Instagram to celebrate Lilibet's fourth birthday, Meghan wrote: "Four years ago today, this also happened." She continued, "Both of our children were a week past their due dates… so when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn't work - there was only one thing left to do!" Earlier this week, Meghan gave fans a fresh update on her lifestyle brand, As Ever, by sharing a vibrant photo on the brand's Instagram page, hinting that new products may be on the way. The image showcased a table filled with colorful bowls of berries, lemons, and measuring cups. In the caption, she wrote: "To all who've been wondering and waiting, thank you! Your favorites are returning, plus a few NEW things we can't wait to show you." She added, "Coming this month... get excited!" This update follows the brand's successful launch on April 2, when Meghan introduced the first collection, featuring items such as Raspberry Spread and Flower Sprinkles, all of which sold out within an hour. "Our shelves may be empty, but my heart is full! We sold out in less than one hour, and I can't thank you enough … for celebrating, purchasing, sharing, and believing," she wrote on Instagram that day. "It's just the start @aseverofficial. Here we go!" Meghan's As Ever update follows the release of a bonus episode of her podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder. In the episode, she opened up to Beyoncé's mother, Tina Knowles, about the behind-the-scenes challenges of building As Ever. Reflecting on the brand's April launch, Meghan acknowledged the intentional scarcity of products such as jam, likening the strategy to a "sneaker drop." She admitted that while the limited release may have generated excitement, it wasn't without concern. "A scarcity mentality at the beginning might be a hook for people," she said. "But I don't want you to eat that jam once every six months. I want that to be on your shelf all the time." Discussing the overwhelming demand, she shared the internal debate that followed: "Yes, amazing, great news. Then what do you do? And then you say, 'Ok, we planned as best as we could. Are we going to replenish and sell out again in an hour? Or is that annoying as a customer?" Ultimately, the duchess decided to slow things down: "I'm looking at it, saying 'Just pause. That happened. Let's wait until we are completely stable and we have everything we need.'"

How Meghan Markle's Perspective on Royal Family Rift Is Different From Prince Harry's

Prince Harry has been open about the continuing rift between himself and other members of the British royal family, including his father, King Charles, and older brother, Prince William. Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, moved to California in 2020 and issues over visiting the U.K. have arisen in relation to security concerns. This week, a source tells People that the couple has different perspectives on how to move forward. 'They're aware of everything going on in England, but they're being left out of the details—there's clearly no trust,' said the insider, adding that Meghan is 'focused on the future,' and 'is very business about it.' She remains firmly supportive of her husband, however, despite his own tendency to dwell on the widening gulf. But the Duchess of Sussex 'wishes her husband could feel less burdened by the past and more present in the life they've built together.' Charles has been receiving regular cancer treatments and is allegedly struggling with the idea of reconciliation. 'It's been difficult for him to even get proper updates about his dad,' the source explained. Harry has been requesting for years to have automatic police protection applied to his entire family so they can visit the country again, a privilege applied to working members of the royal family. They lost their appeal on the matter in April of this year. Charles and William's hesitation towards reconciliation is supposedly about 'trust' and the belief that heir interactions with the Sussexes may not remain private. The couple has shared intimate details of their lives in their popular Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan and in Harry's memoir Spare, as well as a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey. In a 2023 interview with The Daily Telegraph, Harry admitted he actually removed anecdotes from Spare after considering how it might divide him from his father and brother. 'The first draft was different,' he said. 'It was 800 pages, and now it's down to 400 pages. It could have been two books, put it that way. And the hard bit was taking things out.' And there were some things he didn't 'want the world to know.' 'I don't think they would ever forgive me,' Harry added. 'This is not about trying to collapse the monarchy, this is about trying to save them from themselves.'
