SIT to probe Ramtek agro-dealer's suicide after Rs1 crore fraud

A complaint lodged at Ramtek police station names one Madhav Patil, Union Bank manager Ashish Gondane, and recovery officer Vishwas Lambghare for abetment to suicide, cheating, and financial fraud. The three accused are now protected by anticipatory bails. The SIT is set to oppose the anticipatory bail and the custody of the accused for interrogation.
SP Nagpur rural Harssh A Poddar said that a SIT was formed under IPS officer Deepak Agrawal for a wider probe.
"It seems the swindling activities of Patil have strong roots in Buldhana, where a team would be soon sent to collect documents related to the crimes," said Poddar.
Patil, the alleged mastermind, is accused of orchestrating a large-scale loan scam under the pretext of dealing in a shade net project. Police sources said that partnering with Gondane, Patil fraudulently secured loans for installing shade nets at the farmland of four Ramtek individuals.
The accused later diverted funds to fake firms Vitthal Irrigation and Mauli Irrigation without supplying shade nets, the police source added.
These firms were shut down post the transactions.
Vishwas Lambghare allegedly threatened Khante for fund repayments, using coercive tactics like harassment calls and nighttime visits. The SIT aims to unravel this web of financial irregularities, fake firms, and misuse of banking systems.

PAC constable dies of gunshot at Sitapur ammunition depot
Lucknow: A 25-year-old constable of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) died under mysterious circumstances after suffering a gunshot injury while on duty at the Central Ammunition Depot in Sitapur on Saturday morning. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the incident. The deceased, Himanshu Kumar of Ishwardev village in Amroha district, was a 2021 batch recruit and was attached to the 24th Battalion in Moradabad. He had been deputed to the Sitapur facility two months ago. According to police, Himanshu was stationed as a sentry at a 20-foot-high watchtower. Around 8.30 am, fellow personnel heard gunshots and rushed to the spot to find him critically injured. He was taken to the district hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. Preliminary investigation suggests that the shots were fired from his service INSAS rifle and three rounds were fired. While suicide is one line of inquiry, investigators have not ruled out foul play. "At the time of the incident, earbuds were found in his ears. We are reviewing his last phone calls. Police arrests 57 drug smugglers in statewide raids
Chandigarh, Aug 17 (UNI) Continuing the anti-drug campaign 'Yudh Nashian Virudh' launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Police carried out raids at 286 locations across the state on Sunday, marking the 169th consecutive day of the drive. The operation led to the arrest of 57 drug smugglers and registration of 42 first information reports (FIRs). With this, the total number of smugglers arrested during the campaign has risen to 26,023. The raids resulted in the recovery of 461 grams of heroin, 415 intoxicant tablets/capsules, and ₹31,550 in cash from those arrested. The operation, conducted simultaneously across all 28 police districts of Punjab, was carried out under the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav. The Chief Minister has instructed Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners, and Senior Superintendents of Police to make Punjab a drug-free state. To monitor the ongoing war against drugs, the Punjab government has also set up a five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema. Divulging details, Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla said that over 120 police teams comprising more than 1,000 personnel, supervised by 59 gazetted officers, conducted the raids. Mangaluru, Aug 17 (UNI) The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Dharmasthala case has intensified its investigation even as the missing case of Ananya Bhat, filed by her mother Sujatha Bhat, has come into the spotlight. Sujatha Bhat released the passport-size photograph of her daughter, Ananya Bhat, for the first time, following mounting questions about the girl's identity and her disappearance. Until now, despite filing a complaint, Sujatha had not provided any photograph, raising doubts in public and among investigators. According to the complaint, Ananya, a medical college student, had visited the Dharmasthala temple with her friends but never returned. Sujatha, who was then working as a stenographer with the CBI in Kolkata, alleged that when she tried to lodge a missing complaint, she was threatened and turned away. She also claimed that when she raised the matter before the temple administration, she was assaulted by the staff, leaving her in a coma for three months. The controversy deepened after a masked complainant alleged that hundreds of bodies were buried in Dharmasthala. Sujatha submitted that if her daughter's remains were found among those exhumed and her DNA matched, the body should be handed over to her so that Hindu last rites could be performed.
