Lawrence Shankland sticks with Hearts
However, after becoming a free agent this summer and exploring his options, Shankland has been persuaded by recently-installed manager Derek McInnes to accept an offer to become the club's highest-paid player.

The striker flew out to Spain on Wednesday evening to meet up with the Hearts squad at their pre-season training base and the Jambos announced on Thursday afternoon that he has agreed a deal until 2028, bringing to an end a long-running contract saga.
'Lawrence's not only been ingrained in the club the last few years, he's been a big player for the club, knows his way about the Premiership, knows his way to goal,' McInnes told the Hearts website.
'It just made so much sense on so many levels for me. I've known Lawrence since he was a young boy and I know how important family is to him and how important being happy is.
'I always felt that that was a huge advantage for us. Not only does he enjoy his time at Hearts, those family connections are always very strong.'
Shankland marked his first campaign at the club by becoming the first Hearts player in 31 years to score more than 20 goals in a season and then netted 31 goals in 2023-24 to earn himself every Scottish Premiership Player of the Year award available and secure a place in the Scotland squad for Euro 2024.

The former Ayr and Dundee United forward's most recent campaign was more of a struggle in front of goal and he incurred the wrath of some fans after a costly Conference League penalty miss away to Cercle Brugge in November, although he did notch five times in his final five appearances to leave supporters clinging to the hope that he might decide to remain at Tynecastle.
The retention of their most prolific forward of the 21st century represents a significant coup at a time when Hearts are embarking on an exciting new era in partnership with Jamestown Analytics and with Brighton owner Tony Bloom on board as a minority investor.
'I do feel that having that recognised number no.9, a goal scorer with a real pedigree, Scotland internationalist, the motivation for Lawrence to do well here at not only a club that he loves, a club that he's happy with,' added McInnes.
'You see the way he's embraced his team-mates this morning. He's a really popular boy, but he's got so much to do here. In my time at Hearts, I want to make sure it's successful and I want Lawrence to feel exactly the same and he does.
'We want to be lifting silverware. We want to be going into group stages in Europe and we want to have a consistent thing going here and that is the driver for all of us. I do feel that having Lawrence in the building gives us a better chance of achieving all that.'

Penrice was running out for Livingston a year ago but now he's poised to head to Greece Hearts have accepted a near £2million bid from AEK Athens for James Penrice. González's double inspires Spain to emphatic Euro 2025 win over Portugal
The minute's silence was immaculate, poignant, loaded, and ultimately broke into applause. 'Rest in piece Diogo Jota,' spelled a series of cards held up behind Inês Pereira's goal; the air was thick with emotion in those moments and one of the first things to say is that Portugal's players deserve the highest admiration for turning out to compete. They may not have shared a dressing room with Jota or his equally mourned brother, André Silva, but that cannot minimise the fact two members of their nation's close-knit footballing family had been taken away in devastating circumstances. It took guts and no little honour to show up and keep running, scrapping, hunting for moments to take pride in while Spain set about reaffirming their status as runaway favourites for this competition. Spain themselves deserve credit for resisting any temptation to go easy, starting at a rattling pace and completing a thoroughly professional job. In their case that often means administering a sound beating and there is no escaping that they delivered one here. They stopped at five, Esther González contributing two of them while Vicky López. Alexia Putellas and Cristina Martín-Prieto added further gloss. Four of those goals came in the first half, when they made a suitably resounding statement in front of a record crowd for a European Championship group stage game not involving the host country. Nothing that unfolded could be detached from the night's awful context. It was evident in the tributes many of Portugal's players had posted on social media in the hours before kick-off; it infected the march several dozen of their supporters took to the stadium, singing Jota's name and holding up placards in his memory. Inside the ground, one of the most eloquent tributes hung from the upper tier of the west stand. 'You took the name of Portugal beyond borders,' it read. 'Now it is our turn to raise your name.' Jota embodied Portugal's roaming, joyful, acutely accomplished football spirit. It is a matter of time before their women's team, rapidly improving and holding genuine hope of a first knockout spot this summer, produces heroes with his level of staying power at the top. The Barcelona forward Kika Nazareth, a safe bet to be one of them, was not deemed fit enough to start here but would have been hard-pressed to shift the dial. Even before tragedy visited them, starting their tournament against Spain looked the tallest of orders. Spain's own Catalonia-based talisman, Aitana Bonmatí, was able to join the substitutes after making progress in her recovery from viral meningitis. They should be able to taper up without her, although this became a welcome opportunity to power down. Montse Tomé's team had scored 11 times in two Nations League ties against these opponents in April; here they were two up within seven minutes and, in mid-20s heat at the start of an enervating schedule, they could run through the hits when it suited them after that. It took under a minute and a half for González, found by a raking pass from the left-back Olga Carmona, to show smart control with a combination of chest and shoulder before improvising a deft finish past Pereira. The second quickly followed, Mariona Caldentey snaking a tantalising low cross from the other side and seeing López convert on the stretch. Portugal assembled themselves into a huddle after López's goal. They hung in admirably, Pereira saving from González and twice from Clàudia Pina. Between those chances Putellas sidefooted wide, but she would finally join in four minutes before half-time after a shimmy past Diana Gomes had wrought the opening. González soon doubled her tally, Pina's cross striking the far post and presenting the simplest finish. It was no slight on Portugal that the favourites were impossible to subdue. In June last year, Penrice moved to Hearts on a three-year contract. But after only 12 months, he looks set for a big move. It's understood Penrice is close to a transfer to AEK Athens, with a deal agreed between the clubs. SunSport understands the Jambos could fetch up to £2million for the left-back, including potential add-ons. He adds that the player "will now move to Greece soon." While it wasn't the best of seasons for Hearts, Penrice excelled. He was the club's player of the year and was also included in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year. Penrice would be linking up with some huge names at AEK. Former Manchester United striker Anthony Martial and ex-Tottenham and Argentina winger Erik Lamela are currently playing their trade there. Captain Lawrence Shankland has officially signed a new contract, ending months of uncertainty surrounding his future.
