Gujarat MPs, boards must expedite MPLAD works:
Earlier this month, MAGP released a report stating that only 4.2% of funds under the MPLAD scheme were used by 26 Lok Sabha MPs of Gujarat in the past year, and not a single work was completed in 14 of the 26 Lok Sabha constituencies.
"We have written to each of the 26 MPs, asking them to recommend that the Union ministry of statistics and project implementation must create a mobile application, where each MP can track the status of the works recommended by them," said Pankti Jog of MAGP.

She added that MAGP has also recommended to the MPs that the district planning board must provide a status report of MPLAD scheme projects every month at the district coordination committee meeting, in which MPs are members. Official data shows that each of the 26 MPs have made recommendations under the MPLAD scheme, but implementation has been lagging.
Jog said that once a recommendation is made by the MP, the DPB sends it to the department concerned for technical sanction. After the technical sanction is received, it is referred back to the DPB for financial sanction, after which the DPB sends it to the concerned implementing agency. "According to prescribed guidelines, this process ought to be completed in a period of 45 days, but we have observed that this does not happen," Jog said.

The meetings also came nearly two weeks after Jagdeep Dhankhar on July 21 tendered his resignation as vice president to the President citing health grounds. The vice president also functions as the chairman of Rajya Sabha. The Election Commission last week announced that election of vice president will take place on September 9. The electoral college for the vice-presidential election comprises all elected and nominated members of the Rajya Sabha and all members of the Lok Sabha.

No record of 2023 letter on forged voter entries: Chief electoral officer to ex-minister
Bengaluru: The Karnataka chief electoral officer (CEO) has said there are no records of any letter or complaint filed by former minister and Congress functionary H Nagesh on alleged forged entries in the 2023 electoral rolls of Mahadevapura assembly constituency in Bengaluru. This comes days ahead of Lok Sabha opposition leader and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's scheduled visit to Bengaluru to address alleged vote theft involving the same Mahadevpura segment during the 2024 parliamentary elections. In a communication Friday, the CEO's office responded to Nagesh's July 31 request, clarifying no such letter had been received from him during April 2023 — the time period during which he claims to have submitted the complaint.
