Meerut: Two Indie breed dogs, trained to hunt monitor lizards and porcupines for alleged illegal wildlife trade, mauled a 60-year-old woman to
death
while she was collecting fodder in Saharanpur's Satpura village, police said on Wednesday.
Four men from Uttarakhand crossed over to Uttar Pradesh with their dogs on Tuesday to hunt for animals when the canines attacked Tara Devi, tearing through her chest, neck and torso. The woman died on the spot.
The accused men, Bilas Kumar, Lucky Singh, Neeraj Kumar, and Tinku Singh, are Dehradun residents and are aged between 25 and 40 years. "They are snake charmers involved in illegal wildlife trade. They would cross into UP to search of animals in the forest.
During interrogation, they said the animals were sold on demand for use in medicines, pain relief oils and other purposes. Further investigation is on," said Saharanpur SP (rural) Sagar Jain.
"The post-mortem report revealed deep injuries all over the woman's body. An FIR has been filed under BNS sections 106 (causing death by negligence), 291 (negligent conduct with respect to an animal), and relevant provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972," said Jain.

Jain added that the forest department has seized the dogs and arrested the four men who trained them.
Indian Pariah dog is a hardy, territorial breed often used as guard or police dog as it is intelligent and can be easily trained. Experts note that it is more resilient than many pedigreed breeds.
Devi is survived by her three children -- a son and two married daughters. She had been living with her son in Satpura since her husband's death a few years ago.

BJP Kerala secy meets Chhattisgarh CM Sai, dy CM Sharma over nuns' arrest

1 2 Raipur: Four days after arrest of two Catholic nuns in Chhattisgarh on charges of human trafficking and attempted religious conversion of three tribal girls, Kerala BJP general secretary Anoop Antony Joseph on Tuesday held a closed-door meeting with CM Vishnu Deo Sai and deputy CM, who is also the home minister, Vijay Sharma, on the issue. He also met the nuns, who are now in judicial custody. Both the arrested nuns hail from Kerala. Nuns Preethi Merry and Vandana Francis, along with Sukaman Mandavi – the person who got the girls to Durg railway station -- were arrested from the station on July 25 on a complaint filed by a local Bajrang Dal worker who accused them of trafficking the girls to another state and indulging in forced religious conversion. Later, a delegation including Congress MPs Benny Behanan from Chalakudy and K Francis George from Kottayam, RSP MP NK Premachandran from Kollam and Kerala legislative assembly member Roshi M John met the CM and deputy CM. Congress MP from Koraput constituency in Odisha, Saptagiri Ulaka, was also a part of the delegation. After meeting the delegation, Sai said Chhattisgarh is a peace-loving state that believes in harmony and coexistence. "People of all religions live here with mutual respect and brotherhood," he said. Reassuring the delegation, CM stated that the matter is being investigated as per due judicial process. "Law is taking its course, there is no interference," he added, underlining the "safety and dignity of the state's daughters and citizens." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Discover how to go from draft to done in a few clicks—not a few hours. "I met Anoop Antony Joseph and he briefed me with the information that he had. Everything is being done legally, and the case is in court. There have been instances in the past where women from Narayanpur have been trafficked in a similar manner. The matter is under investigation," Sharma said. There was drama at the jail as the Congress MPs were asked to wait and were allowed to meet the nuns only after Joesph, along with state BJP leaders, met them. They were asked to wait by the jail authorities for almost one and half hours to meet the nuns. The meeting took place only after the intervention of Congress leader and former Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel. Talking to reporters outside the jail premises, Premchandran claimed that the nuns were innocent, and it was a deliberate attack on them. "We were allotted time to meet the nuns at 12.30pm, but we were asked to wait, and the meeting took place only after the BJP delegation met them. We staged a demonstration outside the jail," Premchandran said. He said that he couldn't disclose the details of the meeting with nuns. The three young girls were being taken for jobs and the nuns had come to receive them at the railway station. Then some Bajrang Dal people arrived and assaulted them, he alleged.

Afghan national assaulted, called ‘terrorist' in Nagpur; three booked

An Afghan national was allegedly assaulted and subjected to communal abuse late Sunday night in Yadav Nagar Sweeper Colony area of Nagpur. According to an FIR filed at the Yashodhara police station in Nagpur, the incident, which took place around 11.45 pm on July 27, involved physical assault, threats and damage to property. The Nagpur police have registered a case under different sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The complainant, Fahim Khan Mohammad Mamatul Mard, a 46-year-old cloth merchant and resident of Sartaj Colony in Bada Tajbagh, had gone to Yadav Nagar along with his friend Namasmeer Khan to inspect a used refrigerator for purchase. However, what was intended to be a casual visit turned violent. According to the police complaint, as the two men were leaving after his friend finalised the sale of a refrigerator, one of the accused, Ajay Suraj Chavan (26), approached Fahim and allegedly said, 'You are a terrorist. Why have you come here?' before launching into an assault. When Fahim asked what the issue was, Ajay allegedly began beating him with his fists. The situation escalated when Ajay was joined by two others, Rishi Prakash Tambe (20) and a juvenile, who arrived on a motorcycle and also began hitting Fahim and his friend. Amid the assault, Ajay allegedly picked up a cement paver block and struck Fahim multiple times on the head and chest, while shouting threats to kill him. As the complainant and his companion tried to leave the scene, the accused allegedly blocked their way and warned them against reporting the incident to police. They also reportedly hurled stones at Fahim's car, breaking its windows. The case was registered the next morning on Monday under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police officials confirmed that all three accused are residents of Yadav Nagar Sweeper Colony and that appropriate legal action is being taken. The involvement of a minor has also been noted, and further steps under the Juvenile Justice Act are expected. All the accused in the case have been arrested, said Yashodhara Nagar police.
