The BAC meeting was initially scheduled for Monday evening but with Nadda and Rijiju excusing themselves on the pretext that they had to attend to some other important business, it was postponed to Tuesday afternoon. However, due to Dhankhar's resignation, it was postponed yet again to Wednesday.
The Opposition members demanded in the BAC meeting that Rajya Sabha should also have a 16-hour debate like the Lok Sabha though the government was of the view that since the Upper House has roughly half the strength of the Lower House, nine hours would be sufficient. It finally accepted the Opposition demand.
The other demand of starting the debate this week itself was not conceded to by the government which suggested shifting it to next week as the prime minister would be back by then from his visit to UK and Maldives. The PM left for the UK, where the two nations are expected to sign the Free Trade Agreement (FTA), on Wednesday.

Modi had focused on Operation Sindoor in his customary address to the media before the commencement of the monsoon session, saying MPs cutting across party lines should celebrate in Parliament the victory over Pakistan.
The Opposition has been demanding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should speak on Operation Sindoor in the Parliament. While the Treasury Benches had planned that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh would reply to the debate in both Houses, there is a high probability that Modi will participate in the debate.
Government has already breached Opposition unity on the Operation Sindoor issue by nominating prominent faces from the rival camp in the parliamentary delegations that were sent to various countries to propagate India's message of fighting terrorism emanating from Pakistani soil. Opposition leaders like Shashi Tharoor (if his party fields him), Manish Tewari (Congress), Kanimozhi (DMK), Supriya Sule (NCP-SP), Abhishek Banerjee (TMC), Asadudin Owaisi (AIMIM), and Priyanka Chaturvedi (SS-UBT) will speak about their role and experience on the tour to different countries.
The Opposition has two major issues to flag on Operation Sindoor- the claim of US President
Donald Trump
that he facilitated the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, and reports of some Indian fighter planes being shot down on the night of May 7.

Senior BJP leader and Lok Sabha MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy got a taste of the bitterness between TMC leaders Kalyan Banerjee and Mahua Moitra on Monday. Rudy, who is contesting against his party colleague Sanjeev Balyan for the post of secretary (administration), Constitution Club of India, was at the Makar Dwar of the Parliament House when he saw Banerjee leaving the premises. Rudy approached Banerjee, a four-time MP from Serampore, seeking his vote but the latter shouted at him that he would not support anyone who is backed by Moitra. 'You are supported by Mahua Moitra. On Monday, Opposition leaders led by Congress's Jairam Ramesh suggested that the House should go back to the old practice of adjournment as a mark of respect to the deceased member. Mission Sindoor The invitation cards for Independence Day programme this year carry a logo of Operation Sindoor, an effort by the government to publicise India's military operation against terror targets in Pakistan in May this year. It is learnt that Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi in an address to senior Army officers post-Operation Sindoor had mentioned the decision to imprint the logo on all cards and official correspondence of the defence services. Senior Army officers are also likely to deliver lectures in schools on Operation Sindoor to create awareness among students on the operation.

Dumka: The news of the death of the JMM patriarch, Shibu Soren, while being admitted at Sir Gangaram Hospital in New Delhi for the last month, cast a pall of gloom over Dumka in particular and the entire Santhal Pargana at large. Transformed from Shivcharan Marandi (his former name) to Shibu Soren after jointly forming the JMM along with A K Rai and Vinod Bihari Mahto, the separation of Jharkhand from the erstwhile undivided Bihar was its ultimate political objective. His further transformation to be the Dishom Guru (mentor of the tribals across the country) took place in Santhal Pargana, which emerged as the epicentre of the statehood movement that he led for over three decades by mobilising the local tribal community and other native residents. "We learnt about someone called Shibu Soren becoming popular among the tribals and other marginalised communities in terms of raising their voices against exploitation. It was then that we called on him at Tundi in Dhanbad to request him to come to Santhal Pargana in the late seventies to guide the community members against the oppressive practice of money lending and grabbing of tribal lands," veteran JMM leader, the late Simon Marandi, had once said. Due to his charismatic leadership quality, Shibu soon became an iconic figure among the local tribals, particularly Santhals, resisting the administrative arrangements against the proposed meetings elsewhere to undo the same. "It was by then that the slogan 'Kaisi lenge Jharkhand, lad ke lenge Jharkhand' (How to get Jharkhand, to get it by fighting) was coined," recalled Jitendra Singh, a JMM revolutionary. "It was due to Guruji's inclusive philosophy that even the non-tribal populace of Santhal Pargana started admiring him," said Jitendra, now in his late fifties. Shibu was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 1980 from Dumka. He represented this seat in 1989, 1991, 1996, 2004, and 2014 general elections, apart from serving as chief minister of Jharkhand three times.

SC pulls up Rahul for 'Chinese thrashing our soldiers' remark

NEW DELHI: Rahul Gandhi , the leader of opposition in Lok Sabha, got a rap on his knuckles on Monday from the Supreme Court for his 2022 statement - Chinese are "thrashing our soldiers in Arunachal Pradesh" - while criticising the government for its handling of the Galwan Valley clash at the LAC. "If you were a true Indian, you would not say all this," the apex court told him. A bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and A G Masih lambasted Rahul for making allegations that China captured 2,000 sq km of Indian territory and asked him whether he was present there. It made it clear to him that as leader of opposition he cannot go on saying whatever he wants. Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for Gandhi, defended him saying, "if he cannot say these things which are published in the Press, he cannot be a leader of opposition". However, he agreed that the statement could have been worded better. SC's censure came during the hearing on Rahul's plea for staying a defamation case filed against him over his claim about Indian jawans having been walloped by the Chinese during the Galwan standoff. After the hearing, the court stayed the defamation proceedings against him but not before giving him an earful. "Tell, Dr Singhvi, how do you get to know that 2,000 sq km of Indian territory was occupied by the Chinese? Were you there? Do you have any credible material? Why do you make these statements without you were a true Indian, you would not say all this if there is a conflict at the border," the bench said.
