Cape Town City will host Stellenbosch FC in a derby that carries weighty consequences at both ends of the Premiership table.
This eagerly anticipated clash at the Cape Town Stadium, the final league fixture of the 2024/25 season for both sides, comes with significant ramifications.
Stellies are aiming to secure third place and a ticket to the CAF Confederation Cup, while City are fighting to avoid the relegation play-offs.
Stellenbosch go into the weekend on 47 points, three ahead of Sekhukhune United in fourth.
A win will confirm their continental qualification, regardless of other results.
On the opposite end, 15th-placed City sit on 26 points, just one behind Golden Arrows and SuperSport United, and must win while hoping Abafana Bes'thende and Matsatsantsa drop points to avoid the dreaded play-off spot.

Introducing your Rama Fans Player of the Season – Sihle Nduli 👏 pic.twitter.com/COwt26r362 — Stellenbosch FC (@StellenboschFC) May 23, 2025
'When the fixture list came out right at the start of the season, I already anticipated that it would be a great way to end the campaign with a massive derby between the two clubs,' said Stellenbosch head coach Steve Barker ahead of the clash.
It's a match-up that has developed into one of the more competitive rivalries in the top-flight, but form and momentum lean heavily in favour of Barker's side.
Stellenbosch have enjoyed another strong campaign, with 13 wins, eight draws and only six defeats.
Their last outing was a 2-1 victory over SuperSport United, further highlighting their consistency in the business end of the season.
They've now collected four wins from their last five games.
Coach Diogo Peral's City, in contrast, have endured a largely frustrating season.
A tally of 15 defeats and just seven wins tells the story of a side that lacked spark and struggled for goals, having scored just 15 times in 29 matches, while conceding 31.
Their recent 2-0 away win over Polokwane City offered a lifeline, but it's still a case of needing a result – and a bit of help – on the final day.
SuperSport United and Cape Town City fighting relegation is still a shock to me bro.#BetwayPrem — Sinethemba Mbatha (@SnezzyMbatha) May 20, 2025
City's home record has also offered little comfort this season.
Their inconsistency at Cape Town Stadium has been one of their major weaknesses, while Stellies have travelled well, showing tactical discipline and attacking intent away from home.
The head-to-head stats make for further grim reading if you're a City supporter.
Stellenbosch are unbeaten in their last five meetings with their Cape rivals, including a comprehensive 3-0 win in the reverse fixture this season.
City have managed only one draw in that period, with four defeats.
Barker's side have shown a strong blend of structure and flair, and in a game of high stakes, that might prove decisive once again.
For City, this is less about tactics and more about desire.
It's their last chance to avoid a two-legged relegation play-offs stage that could define the club's immediate future.
Saturday's derby might have been marked on the calendar for entertainment – but it now arrives as a final exam for both teams, with vastly different prizes on the line.

Kaizer Chiefs: Tanzanian scouting trip reveals new target

Kaizer Chiefs have intensified their hunt for fresh talent, and all signs now point towards Simba SC's dynamic midfielder, Jean Charles Ahoua. The 23-year-old Ivorian has attracted serious attention following a high-profile scouting mission to Tanzania. Last week, head coach Nasreddine Nabi and Head of Scouting and Recruitment Thembela 'Tera' Maliwa were seen at the KMC Complex in Dar es Salaam. They are attending a Premier League showdown between Simba SC and Singida Black Stars. Their presence fuelled speculation of upcoming transfers and strategic reinforcements at Naturena. While many initially believed their trip centred on Simba SC's 26-year-old attacker Denis Kibu, fresh reports now suggest that Ahoua and Feisal Salum top Amakhosi's wish list. 'Chiefs coach Nabi and the club's chief scout Tera were recently in Tanzania. And part of their visit included watching the match between Simba SC and Singida Black Stars. One of the players that Chiefs have been following is Denis (Kibu). And they hoped to see him in action,' a source revealed. 'There might have been other players the Chiefs technical duo were there to watch closely, which includes (Jean)Charles(Ahoua).' Ahoua's performance in the CAF Confederation Cup has not gone unnoticed. He featured in 13 matches, bagged three goals, and delivered two assists. Which includes a vital strike in the semi-final first leg clash against Stellenbosch FC. His ability to perform on the continental stage adds significant weight to his candidacy for a move to South Africa. With the club under pressure to rebuild and climb back to dominance, bringing in a player of Ahoua's calibre could signal a new era at Naturena. Known for his attacking flair, energy in midfield, and international experience. The Ivorian might just be the creative force Chiefs have been missing. Orlando Pirates need to strengthen these three positions

Orlando Pirates players Evidence Makgopa, Deano Van Rooyen, Deon Hotto, Sipho Chaine and Tapelo Xoki do the crossbone salute at the Loftus Versfeld before facing Mamelodi Sundowns. ADVERTISEMENT A right-back is needed to compete with van Rooyen According to Soccer-Laduma, Orlando Pirates will soon seal a deal for Polokwane City right-back Thabang Matuludi to provide competition for Deano van Rooyen. The same publication sounds less optimistic about their chances of snapping up Bafana winger Oswin Appollis. The 23-year-old reportedly has his heart set on Kaizer Chiefs. Is this a blessing in disguise for the Buccaneers? Click for the latest Pirates need a new central midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula is still a highly effective defensive midfield operator, but Pirates might need a long-term contingency plan because he'll be 36 in November. Although it's an absurd suggestion, Pirates might need to make an audacious move for a player of Teboho Mokoena's calibre. Not Mokoena himself, but a domineering central midfield general to go alongside Thalente Mbatha, or free up Mbatha to get higher up the pitch more often. Kwayiba in the bag The Buccaneers have wrapped up the signing of Chippa United and Bafana midfield playmaker Sinoxolo Kwayiba. The 25-year-old is part of Hugo Broos' latest South Africa squad to contest friendlies in June. Kwayiba bagged six goals and an assist from 25 league appearances for the Chilli Boys this season. The Gqeherba-born star is in the latest Bafana squad. What about a new striker for Orlando Pirates? Although the Buccaneers are blessed with options at the sharp end with Tshegofatso Mabasa, Evidence Makgopa and Boitumelo Radiopane, they might be looking at a different style of number 9. Fiston Mayele is a popular name in the media, but will they go for a guy on the wrong side of 30, especially with a rumoured price tag of R12 million? Mamelodi Sundowns to hijack Kaizer Chiefs target in transfer twist

Mamelodi Sundowns are wasting no time preparing for the 2025/2026 season, with the club setting their sights on Stellenbosch FC's standout defender, Fawaaz Basadien. While they've confirmed they won't dip into the special transfer window, closing on 10 June, for the FIFA Club World Cup, the league champions are already making decisive moves behind the scenes. According to Soccer Laduma , Sundowns have surged ahead of rivals Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in the race to secure Basadien's signature. The left-back, recently crowned Stellenbosch's Player of the Season, currently features in the national squad for friendlies against Tanzania and Mozambique. A source suggests he's now 'open to a new challenge, with Gauteng calling his name.' Basadien's experience with Stellenbosch FC and Bafana Bafana makes him a valuable asset for Sundowns. His exposure to continental competition positions him as an ideal reinforcement for coach Miguel Cardoso, who is aiming to lead the club back to CAF dominance. 'Sundowns want Basadien,' confirmed a source. 'He's gained continental experience and fits what they need. Chiefs still think they have a chance, but what I'm hearing is that Fawaaz will join Sundowns.' The pursuit signals Sundowns' intent to strengthen their squad with proven local talent, especially as they aim to build momentum after the Club World Cup. With Basadien potentially arriving at Chloorkop, changes are expected in Sundowns' defensive line-up. Terrence Mashego is reportedly on his way out, despite news about the club triggering a contract extension clause. Stellenbosch FC have shown strong interest in the left-back, intensifying speculation around his future. 'So you saw the reports of Sundowns triggering (Terrence) Mashego's contract,' the source added. 'Also they got Divine Lunga, (Aubrey) Modiba, and the boy from Sekhukhune United (Asekho Tiwani). Now they want Basadien, where will he play?' While some clubs scramble during the short transfer window, Sundowns are operating with quiet efficiency. Their early moves hint at a broader strategy to solidify their dominance in South African football and prepare for another strong continental campaign. Their ability to attract a player of Basadien's calibre, while fending off Soweto giants, underlines their continued pulling power. If the deal is completed post-Club World Cup, it could prove one of the defining transfers of the upcoming season. Should Basadien go to Mamelodi Sundowns with all the competition in his position?
