Meat Shops on Kanwar Yatra route to remain shut: Delhi minister Kapil Mishra

Hindustan Times09-07-2025
Delhi Culture and Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra on Wednesday said the meat shops on the Kanwar Yatra route, most of which are run illegally, will be shut down during the religious event beginning later this month. The minister reviewed the preparations for the Kanwar Yatra route in Delhi.(PTI)
The minister reviewed the preparations for the Kanwar Yatra route in the city along with several ruling BJP MLAs.
"Its a decision of the Delhi government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) that the meat shops will remain closed. Nevertheless, most of them are illegal and they should not be there. No such shop will be opened and there is no exemption," said Mishra during the inspection.
"It will be specially ensured that no such unwanted thing happens anywhere," he told reporters.
The Kanwar Yatra will be undertaken by the devotees during the auspicious month of 'Shravan' from July 11 to 25.
The devotees during the Kanwar Yatra carry water from rivers and other sacred water bodies and offer it at prominent temples of Lord Shiva, covering long distances on foot.
Mishra, accompanied by BJP MLAs Ajay Mahawar, Tilak Ram Gupta, Anil Sharma, Pradyumn Rajpoot, and Sanjay Goel, inspected the Kanwar Yatra route and camps from the Apsara Border to Karol Bagh.
"Every year, around 2.5 to 3 crore Kanwariyas pass through Delhi. Our government is providing them every facility like setting up camps for them, erecting grand entry gates at various points and showering flower petals on them," he said.
The minister said the government has already declared providing financial assistance to Kanwar Samitis through direct benefit transfer and also provided camps with 1,200 units of free electricity.
Under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's leadership, a single window system has been set up to facilitate the Kanwar Samitis in making preparations for the event, he added.

‘Vote theft': Congress plans high-level meet on Aug 22

Belagavi: KPCC campaign committee president Vinaykumar Sorake said CM Siddaramaiah and deputy CM DK Shivakumar have called a high-level meeting on Friday to discuss the party's plan in response to the alleged "vote theft" by BJP, allegedly facilitated through the Election Commission. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Sorake said: "There is no doubt left among the public that the EC is functioning like a puppet in BJP's hand. The next phase of our fight will be announced after the CM's meeting." Sorake also highlighted the Congress' recent initiative — 'Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan' — organised in Belagavi to observe the centenary of Mahatma Gandhi's participation in the Congress National Session held in the city. "The party will hold 'Gandhi Bharat' campaign in every district throughout the year," he added. In response to criticism from BJP functionaires on Congress govt's five guarantee schemes, Sorake said: "The results of our schemes are now visible. Karnataka emerged with the highest per capita income, thanks to the widespread acceptance and impact of these guarantees." He further stated that the KPCC campaign committee, often seen as active only during elections, has now been tasked by the Congress high command to work continuously. District-level campaign committee presidents have been appointed, with each district and block committee comprising 23 members, and two members assigned to every booth. These teams will play a crucial role in the upcoming ZP, TP elections. KPCC campaign committee vice-president Muneer Jansale, Belagavi Rural campaign committee president Raja Salim, and youth leader Mrinal Hebbalkar were present. 130th amendment bill threat to federal structure: ML

Patna: CPI(ML) general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya said here on Wednesday that the Constitution 130th Amendment Bill 2025 moved in the Lok Sabha by Union home minister Amit Shah , which was sent to the joint parliamentary committee (JPC) for discussion, is a threat to the country's federal structure and its parliamentary democracy. He said the bill is a well-thought conspiracy to destabilise a non-BJP govt in the country. He also alleged that the central agencies and the office of the governor could be misused and the continuation of any non-BJP govt in a state would become "impossible." The bill warrants strong opposition by all, he said. Bhattacharya, who was talking to reporters here after three days of the "Voter Rights Yatra" from Sasaram to Barbigha in the state, also welcomed the selection of the former Supreme Court judge V Sudarshan Reddy as the opposition's candidate for the post of the country's vice-president. He claimed that the yatra has now become a "popular movement" in the state in favour of the Constitution. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
